Thanks, SB, I'm on that photo, equidistant goalkeeper and upright about four ,five steps up from railings. "The White Railings", makes one feel quite emotional, tear in corner of eye, memries Eh!!!!
Hoyland and Hawksworth standing and looks like Bobby Howitt on floor in picture, despite being born into being a Blade believe this game helped to cement my allegiance to S2. I know it was lower league opposition but the 5-0 must have impressed this thirteen year old lad, followed by a trip to Bolton then a draw V Sunderland at home in the snow.
Getting back Lydon's post and the ads. Jeffcock's coaches, my maternal, Red and White to the core, grandfather played in the same team, Gleadless FC, as the founder. I have a photo of the team, in suits and their medal's as runners up in some cup, played on the Brunswick ground, Woodhouse, opposite the Brunswick pub, now a school.

Just to clarify, it is the old Brunswick Ground that is now a school and not the pub, that's probably a shop or flats now.
After thought, wasn't the Brunswick Ground something to do with the Blades after the war and into the fifties. A time when United had First, Reserves, "A" and "B" teams. United had a ground at Dore for either the "A" or "B" teams and maybe the Brunswick Ground.
Could anyone help, was there was a connection between SUFC and the Brunswick Ground in Woodhouse. 'Ta' in advance.

I’m intrigued by the Kenning’s car wash ad...”unique in the country”
I wonder if the machine was imported from the States, never seen a car wash that does inside as well as outside. Open till 2am, surely there wasn't a lot of anything about at that time in 1956, only burglars !!

Well it’s Ecclesfield Comp, early 70s, deep in Wednesday territory but there’s at least four Blades that I know of in the pic. Anyone on here I wonder?72620903-23EE-40E6-B89C-7C2EF5B20E19.jpeg

He did, two years younger. Keith was a very good athlete.
He was
I was his colleague in the decathlon team coached by my favourite ever “teacher “ Mike Corden
More of a friend than a teacher
These were great times with “Jock”

Mr King, music teacher?

Mike Corden.

Twat.
He caught us kicking a basket ball and claimed it would damage the ball, he sat the entire class on the floor and kicked it at us.

As I said. A twat.

Happened at my school in PE. Waiting to start and a few of us saw a basket ball and started kicking it , the PE teacher Mr Gillett walks in throws a fit , then a Medicine ball and makes us play with that. After the lesson he gets, as he said "bright sparks" kicking a basketball," in the showers now" where he proceeds to full power ice cold water us. Proper Teachers.

King was history and handbell team. Lots of allegations about him.

Dick Bate the well known football coach was a much bigger twat when he was there teaching.

One for HBT, Lost goalkeeping techniques,1937-38 April 2 Sam Bartram disposseses Ted Drake at Highbury (2).jpg

Personal opinion, All LM.
To keep things in a more pleasant vain, recon his knees have gone, would be rubbing mi hands playing against him. Whilst the ball is always priority, it gives one a target for slowing him up a little.
Talking of the ball what an unusual, to me, design the panels are.

This one is nearer home.

If he didn’t like you he would make excuses to bully
His favourite was grabbing your sideburns (if you had them) and pulling them
Very painful
As for kingy,he always used to umpire the cricket team when I played never had a bad moment with him apart from him constantly no-balling me!!
Seemed ok to me

‘How’s your knee?’
‘Not too bad, thanks. How’s your back?’
‘Killing me. Be glad when this season’s done.’

Pretty sure this must be the same Dick Bate who was at High Storrs in the 60's.
Always came across as being a decent lad.

No mention here of the time he punched a mate of Bert's in the stomach.

I don’t remember much coaching of any sort going on generally in PE lessons. It was more, go out and play followed by shower and wet towels being flicked at some poor bastards.

That's true, no coaching whatsoever.
