Johnathan David aswell moving to Lille this summer after an exceptional campaign in Belgium would’ve been ideal as a long term replacement for Didzy as a link man who can also score but unfortunately he was always out of our reach.

Very much a one-for-the-future academy punt. This is only the 2nd season of the Canadian Premier League – I’m not convinced it’s going to last, but I hope it does. Logistically, creating a new league for essentially 8 non-league standard teams spanning the whole of Canada is a challenge.

Ex loanee David Edgar is on the books at Forge FC, based in Hamilton. Ex Academy graduate Ryan Gyaki is a coach now in Canada (non-MLS, non-CPL team).

Agreed he was never realistic for us more of an indication of the talent that is out there in North America the MLS and Canadian league system stunt the development of their domestic talent which simply by population size should be obscene. But more and more players are taking the view that in order to develop they need to get out of the domestic system and move abroad at a young age if we can get in on this action all the better.

Pepple advanced from the soccer club's academy system, where he proved himself to the coaches with his combination of mental skills, pace and power.

"He's a very good finisher," Wheeldon said. "He's not one that just smashes out it with his laces, he guides it, he passes it in, and that's a rarity. So I think when you see a good finisher like that, we can work on hold-up play. We can work on one-v-one, we can work on his defensive pressing. But what he has is these natural skill sets that we want to make sharper."

On top of that, Wheeldon said he thinks the teen can handle the mental game.

"The game is, you know, more mental than anything else. Ability is one thing fitness, physicality is another but if you don't have the mental edge … you're never going to survive in the game. You've got to be able to ride the rollercoaster. I think he's got that right mentality for it too."
