CONFIRMED Rhian Brewster

I'm not sure it's fair to accuse the club of bad planning since the pandemic has cost the club £20-30 million.

If we're trying to sign players we know we can't afford, it would seem like a daft waste of time.

I'm surprised we've not used the loan market more given the financial situation tbqf

Not saying it is bad planning, might just be complications with other clubs. But if we have misjudged this by signing other players ahead of for me the priority position it would be poor planning IMO.

I think it's clear Brewster is no.1 on the list hence why we keep going back in for a nibble.

Obviously. And the fact we haven’t moved on suggests we still at this stage think a deal can still be done. We might leave it too late to get an alternative in, but equally we might have calculated that an alternative could be brought in quickly if needed, so we aren’t losing out by persevering with Brewster at this current moment in time.

I think the problem is that all the players we've signed are must haves really. Foderingham is the only one which isn't, at the moment.

I'm surprised we've not been in the loan market more given financial constraints.

I think we could have coped without the wing backs also if money is that tight. Osborn could cover LWB & Bash/Ampadu RWB.

Ok for a game or two, maybe, but not for an extended period of time. Osborn would be covering Fleck and Stevens. Neither Bash nor Ampadu can play in that position in the long term, imo, and then you're leaving other positions thin for cover.

If we had a bad run of luck with injuries and suspension, we'd get relegated, without a shadow of a doubt.

You’re probably right that he’s Wilder’s no. 1 target, but I’m not sure he’s the board’s. They’re probably asking the question of Wilder “if you’ve spent thirty odd million on attackers last season, one of which we’ve moved on already and another we can’t get fit, why should we trust you with another 20?”

Catch 22 then becuase if we don't start scoring goals we will go down fact.

Still hopeful on Brewster coming in.

That would be the first crack in our recent dream bubble :(

If they ask him that he should walk on principle

Valid point, but I guess our start has been more worrying than inspected in front of goal.

fingers crossed that we'll get Brewster or Balogun but it's not looking entirely likely at this stage (but there's a different report every day, so who knows!)

It could be argued that they’d have a point. These are the rough figures quoted in the press at the time we signed them were McBurnie circa £20m, Mousse £12m, Robinson £6m-£8m and Freeman £4m. Only one of them is capable of playing regularly and has been just ok.

If they ask him that he should walk on principle

I think it's a valid question. Not, in a sense, whether they can trust him, but I could understand some reluctance to spend a huge amount given the performance of Robinson, Mousset, and to a lesser extent McBurnie.

20 million for a young player who has a season of football is a lot of money for a club like ours.

If it's a case of not trusting him then he'll either walk or they will sack him.

You're right we should have stick with sharp and mcgoldrick and re signed madine ( its not like we finished top ten or owt )

Wilder " because we finished in the top 10 that's why"

Some of you lot must be absolutely unbearable to sit near at Bramall Lane. Take a hard look at what you consider "supporting" Sheffield United should look like.

I like to randomly shout “RUBBISH YOONITED”. There’s a spare seat near me.

Remember the wailing and teeth grinding when Bash filled in there in the Championship?

but we are losing out because we don’t look like scoring.

A scenario for you: You’re trying to get Player A who you’re confident would score 10 goals for the team this season. It’s a tricky transfer, but there’s a chance it could happen still before the deadline, and if late on it still looks unlikely Player B could still be signed. Player B it’s felt would likely deliver 5-6 goals this season, and because fewer clubs are interested and it’s a cheaper deal it’s an easier and quicker one to get over the line (both internally and externally).

Are you saying it’s better to just get Player B in now rather than hold out for Player A as long as possible?

Ok maybe mistrust is a bit strong, but if he’s invested nearly forty million quid on forwards, to only have one of them regularly contributing sheds some doubt over his ability to make the big signings to push us on from here.

Yes, because that was the extremely limited choice available to us, McBurnie, Mousse, Robinson and Freeman or stick with what we’ve got. It’s not like there’s thousands of other footballers in the world to scout and sign. Silly me 🙈

Wilder " because we finished in the top 10 that's why"

That’s a fair point and hopefully one he’s thrown back at them, if indeed the question has been asked.

By no means am I saying the board shouldn’t trust Wilder, just that I can see things from their perspective if they did ask for some rationale or justification. After all, it’s a lot of money for a relatively untried kid. Who’s to say he wouldn’t be another Robinson and not cut out for this level? I obviously think CW’s done a great job. I’d love another season half as good as last year, but that doesn’t mean he’s infallible and the people who own the club and make the decisions on how much money we invest aren’t allowed to ask whether he’s spending the money in the best way.

I’d be very surprised if we weren’t all in agreement that they need to stump up whatever CW is asking for to get the forward(s) that he wants.

As long as B is as good or better than what we have, then take him.

Just chill everyone. He’s signed.
You kinda need to tell people how you know? Or what you've heard.
Otherwise, people tend to think new, over confident, wannabe ITK'S are either on the wind up or bellends.

Not saying you're either, just letting you know what the general vibe will be.
