Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Two different shirts on this photo. One with badge sown in to shirt, Trusson, Hatton, Neville, Wiggan. The other which seems like a separate badge sown onto shirt, Tibbott, Houston, Garner, Kenworthy, Charles. The second which I cannot recollect seeing before.
A nice photo which may generate some conversation due to the personnel.

Go on then someone help me out. Got them all bar one. Who's the beanpole between Mcphail and Ryan? Also, is front right Paul Casey?
 
Summers & Pace Wendy player on the far right in top photo? Looks like Mark "Pancho" Pearson who was in Man U's team for a few seasons after the Munich air disaster before going to Wendy. He is from Ridgeway and his niece's son played in the same Staveley MW u15s as my son.
I have mentioned before that around 1956-57, often saw Mark Pearson in Pond St bus station whilst he and me, with school mates, waited for the No 25 Beighton bus. Recognition was easy as at that time, he sported the full 'Elvis' sideburns. We never spoke to him and he never stood in the railed queuing area but just the other side of the end wall of platform D, next to Harmer Lane, mounting the bus last. We knew of him as there had been mention in the star probably when he signed for Man Utd.
Here's a picture of him in the '58 FACF strip with Ernie Taylor, although he didn't play in the final, must be the the pre-match photo shoot. Not sure whether he played in the final and unable to find a team line up I went on You Tube, finally watching the whole match. Worth a watch showed what a good team and players Man Utd were and had before Munich.
The Shirt he is wearing must be worth a bob or two now, one off badge, Pheonix rather than the Manchester coat of Arms used in '57. Hope he still 1958 Mark Pearson and Ernie Taylor photo shoot '58 Cup Final Kit.jpghas it.

He did at least make 2 goals in the first post-Munich match v Wednesday. His opportunities were soon limited by the return of Charlton and Viollett, who survived the crash.

The next time I hitched after that was the last time I hitched as it turned out, for the Norwich game which thus far is the last game we were all allowed into. I was surprised how easy it was with the looming threat of Coronavirus. On the day of my accident, my next journey was in an ambulance to Watford Gen as opposed to Watford Gap in a converted ambulance.

I hitched to and from work for around a year from 1994 to 1995, about 10 miles from Brackley to Banbury. Well, it was almost like that. I was living in Brackley but working in Banbury; after the bus fares went up, I started to hitch. In the end I moved to Banbury, but three months in I got a job back in Brackley so did the reverse hitch for around five months. Eventually I squared it all up and moved back to Brackley. Daft sod that I am.

The odd satellite block of Hyde Park, now gone. I'm sure it had a name which I've now forgotten.

In the sixties, having got off my bus on High Street, I walked up past here every work day morning, up throught Hyde Park proper, past the old dog track which I think by then may have been abandoned, to the then Post Office telephones van depot aka "TEC".
The yard transport manager was a bit of an RSM. His default response to any polite request from one of my ilk for one of his vehicles was, without fail, always, "No f'in chance, you long haired hippy puff!" . I soon had to learn that he could take and actually also enjoyed taking (some) banter in return. I used to rehearse my responses to him, walking up past here. It stood me in good stead later in life in dealings with some other initially apparent jobsworths.
 
Not so much an old photo but a memory that popped up on my Facebook this morning, reminding me how far we've come and easing the disappointment of the Wolves result last night.

Not old photos, but new photos of an old thing, so I hope his Bertfulhighness will be tolerant.

I went on one of the Heritage Open day walks today, following the Porter from Sylvester Street to Sharrowvale, which was really enjoyable with a non-native guide who has actually walked the river from the Megatron in Pond Hill, to Endcliffe Park.

Here are a few holiday pics for you (in the right order going out of town although the numbers got mixed up):

1/ Pic of the last wheel ('Cinder Hill') and closest to the City Centre, taken from Matilda St looking out of town.
2/ Signboard in Decathalon car park denoting the 100 metre long 'Bramall Lane Bridge' which still exists underground and runs from Mary St under the store and across Eyre St. This was a long bridge and not built as a culvert. Our guide has followed the river upstream under the store and confirms it still exists.
3/ Taken from St Mary's Gate looking back to Staples car park by the underpass at the end of the Lane.
4/ Bottom of London Road by the old bank (now Baan Thai) looking toward Waitrose. In heavy rain the water comes about 5 feet up the channel
5/ A really interesting picture of a steel grid in Waitrose car park. The river is there, honest...
6/ Back of the old Wards brewery looking toward Summerfield St
10/ Stalker Wheel looking back to the Cemetery entrance on Cemetery Ave. Wheels were often named after the person who ran them and Stalker still lives on in the street names around there.
11/ The dam to feed the wheel in the flats at the back of Wilson's Snuff Mill (end of Frog Walk, off Sharrowvale Road)
7/ A new pocket park on Eastwood Road, off Hickmott Road
