The original North West Terrace was built between 1919 and 1920 to adjoin both the North Stand and West Stand, but was demolished and replaced in mid 1966, in time for the 1966 World Cup

And now is forever known as Dole Corner thanks to Les.

Good photo, what a great chest and pair of legs. Fredrick Sewards was born to be a pace bowler, had all the physical attributes, his action was poetry in motion.
Seeing the photo reminded me I've always wondered whether he did or not. What do you reckon?

He probably copped a feel.

Used to see him regularly wandering around Gargrave when I was working around there .
I believe FS turned out for Lincoln City Reserves, centre forward of course.
My all time favourite cricketing story is when he bowled a young aspiring batsman first ball, as he walked degected past Fred he sportingly said "well bowled" to which Fred replied, Aye lad it was, wasted on thee tho.

What fantastic photos Silent.
Bottom picture John Fantham, his parents had a grocery shop at Greenhill.
Top picture, we must be defending a corner, Birch helping out, Vic Mobley attacking. Who is the Wendy player in the background? Alan Finney?
Hodgey’s socks are the first that I remember in the early sixties.

Whereabouts was the grocers shop at Greenhill?

I know the Hoylands had one - may have been a newsagents.

Is it correct Racquel Welsh appeared on the pitch at Stamford Bridge during a match?.i have this thought if she appeared on the pitch at Bramall Lane.
The Kop would be singing. get your tits out for the lads lol.

Fanthams shop was next door to Hoylands, but before Tommy and Connie took over the newsagents. I remember John as a young lad serving in the shop.
Shops situated at the corner of Annesley Rd and Meadowhead Ave

She'd be safe with that bastard only went for old women with a bob or two.
I never saw or heard, did you get back thumbing after your bit of trouble?

The next time I hitched after that was the last time I hitched as it turned out, for the Norwich game which thus far is the last game we were all allowed into. I was surprised how easy it was with the looming threat of Coronavirus. On the day of my accident, my next journey was in an ambulance to Watford Gen as opposed to Watford Gap in a converted ambulance.

Who remembers Nile Rodgers performing on the pitch at half time at the Lane? Somewhat bonkers moment.

I like the one where an equally aspiring young batsman came down the pavilion steps and opened the gate to enter the field of play , at which point Fred's dad who was standing next to it said ,

"Ah wunt bother shuttin' that if ah were thee ".

This is my fave FS story.

He bowls down the leg side, the batsman flashes at it and there's a loud "snick" heard. FS appeals, the umpire says "Not out"
Next delivery force the batsman to stand back and dab at the ball but he misses and the ball hits the pads, clearly plumb in front of the wicket. FS appeals, the umpire says "Not Out"
The third delivery is a screaming yorker which sends all three stumps cartwheeling into the air. FS turns to the umpire and says, "Well, I nearly 'ad him that time!"

I also like this one.

FS is bowling for a local team in their annual grudge match against the next village. He is used sparingly, for obvious reasons, but his side are struggling to gain the upper hand but they take a wicket eventually as FS is bowling this over. The next man in is the local "Lord of the Manor" so to speak, and he comes on wearing his I Zingari cap and Freddie knows him of old as someone who thinks he is a cut above all others. Freddie, who is itching to get this man out, is approached by the captain who asks him to take it easy on the new batsman and to let him score a few. As the batsman draws near to FS Fred says to him, "Mi first ball'll set thee up for a four. Mi next ball'll pin thi ter t'bloody sight screen!"

Two different shirts on this photo. One with badge sown in to shirt, Trusson, Hatton, Neville, Wiggan. The other which seems like a separate badge sown onto shirt, Tibbott, Houston, Garner, Kenworthy, Charles. The second which I cannot recollect seeing before.
A nice photo which may generate some conversation due to the personnel.

It's a great photo XM657, and I'd love to provide my insightful input but I'm afraid that era all blurs into one for me - as do many of the personnel shown. I reckon I can pick put about half of them without any help. There are loads of others on here, probably you included, who have a truly phenomenal recollection of events and players.
I'll stick to my childhood memories which I can remember as clear as day now.... I think.
Coincidentally today, I was also having a clear out of some of my ex wife's things. I came across this old worn keyfob photo, I believe from a few years later. It's probably been on here before in much better nick.

I’m not 100% sure but I think that’s our promotion winning side from 1984
