Questions that need answering

Surely that’s the point. Robinson wasn’t good enough to start, so replace him with somebody that is. Improve us.
Was just answering the question. We need improvements for our starting XI and Robinson wasn’t a part of that

The question I want answering is have we ever been good at taking corners? In 41 years of supporting United I dont remember a single season when we have been good at them.

As a side, we are desperate for an attacking creative midfielder in the Duffy style role. Lunny was garbage first half, Norwood was poor all game.

6. Why are some fans of Sheffield United Football Club such fucking vaginas? We've played 45 minutes of our second season in the Premier League and people are losing their shit...
Maybe cos weve all got "early warning ' shit storm ahead' watnonalerts fitted in our heads yours is obvs on the blink.

I agree 100% it’s our first 11 that needs improving. That’s the point I was getting at. If Robinson was initially signed as a starter (you’d imagine he was, he cost a fair bit when we signed him) and we find he’s not good enough, don’t replace him with another squad player, sign a starter. I know some will say “but that costs money”. Of course it does, these are Premier League players we need.

Why has Burke not been given any time tonight? We looked so painfully slow and had no outlet for McBurnie’s flick-ons (after the hopeful long punts up to him).

I don’t know how the above reads, I’m far from panicking after one game so hope people don’t take this as a toys out of the pram overreaction. After all, we’re notoriously slow starters so I’m hopeful we’ll rectify this pretty quickly, but we just looked way off it tonight and like We need big improvements in our starting lineup.

Was hardly ever given a chance he just persisted with the same team more often than not.

He started our first 9 games, if that's not a chance I don't know what is.

Edit: started 8 of our first 10, and played in 9. Still a very big chance.

Not going to throw toys out after a bad 6 minutes, had we not had this, (no individual blame) it would have ended 0-0 and we would have taken that, Against a strong European side.

However I can’t accept that we start our 2nd season in the premiership with pretty much the team that got us up (Duffy & Hendo aside)
That’s 3 PL windows and we haven’t strengthened the starting 11 (for those pointing out depth of squad)
Yes we need a stronger 2nd 11, but the priority has to be bringing in better players for those that start the majority of matches

Imo each window any team should bring in 1 player that makes you better.
The other teams in this league have, which means any team that doesn’t is falling behind.

I agree. We will no doubt pick ourselves up again it’s just worrying seeing the same patterns again going forwards and looking clueless.

Great post. No overractions from me after one game, but I do find it worrying that not one of the new signings was in the first eleven tonight. We needed at the very least two players to really improve that first 11 (creative sparks). It might be a fitness thing for some of them (Burke, the Derby lads) but it worryingly looks like we have stood completely still.

I had my fears when McG got a new deal last summer - for me he was a player we needed to replace (younger, fitter, better creative spark). I am not sure we have improved on him (unless Burke can play there).

Spot on , Ramsdale is a decent keeper but with no hendo we have actually gone backwards since last season !
Having said that the prince has had to spend the transfer kitty on buying out the biggest Blade so can’t moan too much

We just need to calm down a bit. I’ve just said on another thread, we flitted between overplaying it on the wing, or playing an early cross from deep when there was nobody in the box. Wolves made it difficult for us by putting pressure on when we had the ball, but we need to get back to our overloads and playing triangles around fullbacks, drawing centre halves wide and creating space to exploit.

There were too many long balls from Ramsdale and the defence to McBurnie as well. He’s tall, but he isn’t a target man. He’s better on the floor than he is in the air.

Number 5 is the key point IMO. I was expecting more starting 11 signings but looks to be only Ramsdale so far.

JOC walking straight into the team despite barely kicking a ball during pre-season. 🤷‍♂️

Not that he was the worst performer just a bit rusty from lack of games. Robbo hadn't done bad pre-season either.

Weak links are Norwood and Billy. Berge offers us much more dynamism going forward, and enough mobility to get back and defend. Billy, god love him, is constantly offside and his first touch isn’t the best.

Happy with the way the second half went. It’s not doom and gloom, Wolves got to the quarters of the Europa League and look top 4 potential. We over-performed last season, 15th or 16th is probably where we’ll end up come the end of the season.

The only thing that’s missing from this team is goals, same as last season.

It would have been madness to start any of the new signings a week after joining the club. They are in there to put pressure on players currently in their position and any slips then they get the shirt

He was left exposed by bad defending in the first 10 minutes, lunge by lundstram, O’Connell & Stevens all at sea! Perhaps could have done better but doubt if Henderson would have saved either

Here’s one. Why hasn’t Ramsdale just moved his feet and caught the second one. It’s very poor goalkeeping.

Henderson saves both imo.
Not the first but maybe the second.
Did make a really good save deep in the second half.
Hendo has gone so we cannot spend all season surmising as to whether he would have saved one goal or another.
I am more concerned about those 10 in front of him.

Wasn’t Woodward playing when you first went. My recollection is that his corners were good
I agree with you in the last 20 years, but statistically there are few goals scored from corners even though we get excited when we get one

Berge is an improvement as will be the new striker (I hope).
Maybe Ampadu and one of the wingbacks too.
That would be three better players than we began last season with.
Chuck in a surprise from Burke and we are improved

Having seen the first one back I’m inclined to agree tbf.
