CONFIRMED Oliver Burke

I'm intrigued at the prospect of seeing Burke play. I get the impression he's like an extremely powerful golf club which has a very specific weighting and sweet spot, and nobody's quite managed to middle a ball with any regularity down the fairway with it yet.

Hopefully once Wilder and Knill have had a tinker and a few hits down the driving range we'll have a very decent club in our bag. Fingers crossed.

I have a mate who is a big Forest fan. Rates Burke very highly. Interesting bit is that he says Wilder is exactly the type of manager he needs. So fingers crossed.

So more PXG than Donnay International ?

😉.

Where's the ninja dangling from the rafters on the john street taking sneaky pics of Burke on the pitch and a dude who may or may not be Dennis/the media guy
Poor media guy, just because he's young and not overweight everyone thinks he's our next big signing. Huge amount of respect for https://twitter.com/TDXCampbell?s=09 and how he's massively pushed on our online media

The WBA fans are creaming themselves over getting Robinson in a swap deal for Burke on twitter today. Hopefully CWAK have got this one right!

Not shafted as such but has made the odd poor signing

I'm looking forward to this one because he will give us an option of blistering pace up front and that's something we don't have much of. It can be a real game-changer. The other thing he's got though is brawn - he's a very big strong lad - and we've only got McBurnie who has that about his game up front.

It's been the opinion of some on here, for a long time, that we won't sign wingers, because we don't play wingers. Well, here comes a winger folks. Let's see what Chris does with him. He's got the option of playing him out wide on the right - which I think would be a good thing because that right side of attack is nowhere near as effective as our left side. However, I think he'll end up being deployed more as a centre forward, because of his height and aerial power, and not least, the fact that he's likely to run straight down the throats of central defenders and make them have kittens. Just what we need.

I just hope that:

1. He arrives fit enough to play from the start of the season
2. He fits into the squad socially - because I've read he can be a bit sulky and distance himself from team-mates, and that can never work in a Wilder team.
3. He learns to show some composure in front of goal - because from what I've seen and read, the lad is like a loose firework going off, but not much end product.

Welcome Oliver Burke. He's not signed yet, but I think sometime between now and me having beans on toast tonight, the deal will be sealed.

4. 'Supporters' (sic) give the lad time to acclimatise / fit in / understand SUFC ( including the miserable moaning doom laden fuckers) -
Perhaps start comparing him with his 'predecessor' ( that CWAK clearly don't feel is 'up to it') after > 16 games ?

I mean, It's quite obvious that Robinson didn't work out for us, and I don't see any reason why he would be an asset for us this upcoming season. Still not the perfect fit for our system. So regardless or whether Burke is gonna ball out, trading Robinson makes sense.

Burke can't really offer any less than Robinson did and may be an unexpected hit. Robinson is a nice guy, seems like he's good to have around but ultimately showed little to nothing to suggest he can start games and contribute regularly in the prem. He lacks a stand out attribute for me.

I really wanted Robinson to do well and I wouldn’t have minded at all if we’d kept him but I’ve just watched him play two second tier internationals and it’s just reminded me of how ineffective he can be. His little trick to make space to deliver that ball to McBurnie against Man U was great but he just doesn’t do things like that frequently enough.

I’m sure we’ll have covered ourselves with some add-ons in case he suddenly turns into Messi but I suspect he’s going to be one of those who looks great in the championship but never quite steps up enough for the PL.

I’ll comment on Burke if and when it’s confirmed.

Sky reporting Burke is a loan, that puts a spanner in the works for the other forward o_O

That is an Real eye opener If true.

I could get on board with him as a risk / back up (even at the expense of Robinson) but to use a vital resource in a loan on him strikes me as a proper waste of a really valuable asset.

would have preferred to buy him outright, as I think we could struggle to buy a quality forward in today’s market? I could see Brewster on loan, but not a perm transfer for example.

who knows, maybe wilder is convinced we can get someone in and at least if he is crap we can send him back???

Could make sense.

Sell Robinson for 7m, take Burke with a view to buy for the same figure if it works out.

People will be disappointed re the Brewster loan but they're assuming he's a player Wilder wants on loan.

They pay us £Xm for Robbo on a perm and as part of the deal, we take Burke (and his wages).

The saving we make on Robinsons wage probably covers most of Burkes.

So all in all, we swap a player who we wouldnt have played, for a player who could go either way and the £Xm goes towards a permanent striker.

Wilder & Bettis- transfer masterclass.

Burke loan has an option to buy at £5M (which is what WBA apparently value him at) if it works out this season we can get him at less than his market rate , if it doesnt we can let him go with no harm.

Maybe - but assuming we don’t have anything up our sleeves striker wise. You don’t think that loan could have gone on another key player we couldn’t afford to bring in on a perm?

A Connor Gallagher / Brewster / loftus cheek Type? Seems a frivolous treatment of a valuable asset in a PL loan, to use it on someone like Burke who we could have afforded or swapped outright presumably?

I'll add myself to the list of posters agreeing with this comment - The Robinson fee could be part of a bid for Brewster whom SSN are reporting may be available for a permanent deal. Liverpool are supposedly after Sarr from Watford and may want to raise some funds in to help with that.

I would guess that if it works out then he may even join permanently in January. My only concern here is that if he does well then there's always the fear that WBA may want more or another club comes in with a higher bid in January, i.e. Villa!

Knowing how smart we are behind the scenes I would imagine we' make sure it was fully agreed re a permanent fee and no way WBA could pull a swift one on us.

given we cant loan Gallagher or Loftus Cheek after getting Amadu as you cant have 2 from the one club that leaves just Brewster.

For all we know Klopp has said hes only going to sell him removing all of these as loan options.

For all we know a striker is lined up to come in as CWAK did mention a foreign signing, or maybe the money were likely to see form the Robbo sale will top up the kitty enough to buy Brewster.

Theres mountains of moving pieces likely going around, I have no doubt another forward will come in weather its a foreign loan or a purchase of a striker we will get another in and Burke is no more frivilous a loan than Besic was last year.
