I guess the difference is Zivkovic cost us nothing whereas Burke is costing us an asset. No matter what we think of Robinson's ability at PL level, that's still ~£7m of player that we're trading for someone that West Brom fans seem actively delighted to get rid of.
Have to wait and see on this one - I'll freely admit I didn't know much of anything about Burke before the last few weeks, and it does sound like he has some of the tools that could succeed with us (pace!) - but it's probably the most "huh?" I've felt about a signing since Wilder took over.
Agree with that. I suppose the big positive is Burke is still young....he’s 23...where as Robinson is 25.
Burke‘s back story is......
As an 18-19 year old at Nottingham Forest he is a rising star with huge potential....scored a few goals too.
Their fans were furious that they sold off such a promising young talent.....probably Forests equivilent to what happened with us and David Brooks.
RB Leipzig offer 13 million (record transfer fee for a Scottish player) for a young talent....even as a teenager he‘s a regular in a team finishing 2nd in the German league...but doesn’t score many.
West Brom then offer 15 million for the 20 year old....breaking his own Scottish transfer record.
He struggles to impress at West Brom...goes out to Celtic on loan, then last season he was a regular starter on loan at struggling Alavez (Spanish League).
Conclusion
For someone so young he has an impressive pedigree...playing in the top flight of the English, Scottish, German and Spanish leagues.
However he‘s currently lost his way...his career is at the crossroads.
Its a typical Wilder signing...someone with something to prove....
Money and fame probably came to him too early.....I expect him to be hungry and want to resurrect his promising career.
West Bromwich fans are glad to get rid...but let’s not forget....the anger is because he went there as a big signing with big expectation....so he’s let them down.
He comes here with much less expectation or pressure. Its one of his calculated risk signing which could pay big dividends.
