So here’s a thought. We all know Duffy and Wilder had a disagreement last season. The disagreement was ‘apparently’ over contracts. But has anyone noticed that as this happened and Duffy left the club cadette’s rumours stopped and he disappeared from the forum. Coincidence?...

The way things are going we might be in for him unless Villa and Fulvilla arent copying us again.
 
Mark Duffy is one of those players that when mentioned will always bring a smile to my face.

A football club's whole direction can change in just a few seconds within one game.

That is the beauty and agony of the game.

In THAT game in September 2017 the relative positions of United and Wednesday changed. Suddenly we were above them. Not just in the league (we already were), but because we stuffed them at their own ground and confirmed a sort of footballing superiority.

I will always think that it was Duffy's goal that did that.

Not just because it was actually a very, very good goal, but because in the context of how the game was balanced it was a killer response.

We had been 2-0 up. They had just brought the game back level. If we are honest we all feared the worst. Duffy scoring that goal so soon after Wednesday's equaliser cannot be quantified in terms of it's importance in affecting the direction of both clubs.

It was a defining pivotal moment in Sheffield football power, as bd 1979 was for them. Wasn’t it good? :) :) :)

I was not at the game, but was following it on every type of media to which I had access.

As with all Sheffield derby games I felt physically sick before kickoff, but felt much better when we went 2-0 up so quickly. If we had kept it 2-0 until half time I think the game would have been comfortable, but Hooper got that goal from nothing. (Don't mind admitting I think Hooper is/was a good player - it's just his injury record that goes against him). Suddenly the game isn't so comfortable. They start the second half in a much better place than if they are still 2-0 down.

They equalise and it looks like they now have the advantage. I'm ready to pass out and then Mark Duffy comes to the rescue.

You can never be 100% sure in a derby game, but after Duffy scored I thought we would go on to win. Just as an equaliser can be a psychological blow so can a goal like that scored so soon after the equaliser. What a deflating moment for them. If it had been the other way round I would have been inconsolable. Definitely a pivotal moment.

I’ve been watching us since 1975 and in all that time
Matk Duffy is easily one of my favourite players and one of the players I enjoyed watching the most. I’ll never forget that and always be grateful.
I’ve taken guests/ fans of other clubs to our matches several times over the years and amazingly every time when commenting on our team
theyve always said something like “he‘s your best player that little strawberry blonde lad...like the look of him...who is he”.

Agree with the theory that his goal at Hillsboro was the watershed moment where the fortunes of both Sheffield clubs crossed.
That was our equivalent of their 4-0 Boxing Day massacre.

What young uns might not realise is that in the 70’s we were the glamourous top dogs of the city.
Wednesday were shit and an embarrassment to the city. Blades walked round with a swagger...Wednesdayites went into hiding.
Then after that match our fans went into a daze....we hardly won a single game the rest of the season
whereas Wednesday were on such a high after beating us...they went on a great run gaining promotion.

When we beat Wednesday 4-2 at their ground I met Owls fans weeks later and they were still in depression.
Some admitted that the worrying thing was we looked so superior to them and they thought we had a great future with Wilder.
The penny dropped that day as they saw for themselves how we’d over taken them with negligible resources,

What's extra nice is that it was a split second 'moment'. Literally two seconds before that, the snorters were bouncing around, utterly confident that 'the order' had been restored and it would only be a matter of time before they got a third and put those noisy neighbours back in their place. Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

It was one of my most magical moments....I was running around the room like a madman and had to go outside I was so full of energy.
I actually lost control ha ha...don’t know how I’d have coped if I was there at the match.

The thing about that game is we were clearly the better team and should have been well clear at half time.
Wednesday only played well for 10 minutes and amazingly managed to pull it back to 2-2.

It was an injustice....I was watching the game with a part timer Wednesday fan and he’d been quiet...almost embarrassed in the 1st half
but when they pulled it back to 2-2 he was laughing his head off. I had my grandson with me who was so upset because we’d been the better team.

Then whilst he’s laughing and gloating up steps Duffy to produce some magic...the best timing in the world....it was a very very very special moment.
Still kept thinking they’ll fluke a goal back but when Leon scores it was “game over” and I could relax and saviour the scoreline.

True,before the Boxing Day defeat,we had won 14 league games,after it only 4
It took 13 years to get back in the same league as them..maybe history will repeat itself
 



He will be a good signing for Fleetwood, always a chance he will come up with something special like the bounce killer, never seen a stadium empty as fast as that day 😍
