Happened last night? we have just been beat 4-0 by arguably the worst side in the league not to mention the fact they were managerless after losing the guy that took them up and kept them up. There will be lots said in the morning and until saturday, some blaming speed, some picking on players. One person i will not blame is speed he has inherited a very average side and the only player he has brought in looks quality. The board need to act and bring in a quality striker before saturday or it could be a relegation battle. So what happens now? wholesale changes? this will be a real test for speed i would bring morgs back in and drop monty, maybe give boggy a start, evans needs benching.

I am writing this still in shock, 4-0 against scunny i honestly never thought i'd see us lose 4-0 at home never mind to scunny. By the morning i will probably change my mind and put some blame on speed, pompy come to the lane saturday without a win this season, if they get in at BDTBL then we have serious problems.

I suppose the question is where do we go from here????

The league table would seem to suggest Scunny are far from the worst side in the division.

I think the guy I heard on the way from the game summed it up: 'It was a good job they didn't have 5 shots!' I don't think I've ever seen a team beaten 4 nil that over the course of the whole game was the better team by a good margin, especially in the first half when we could have had 4 ourselves!

You have to love the beautiful game but good lord is it bloody frustrating.

Old clichy - if you do not take your chances, you will be punished. Unfortunately, 4 times last night! Just seen the goals, first goal aside, other 3 were defensive howlers....who was marking him for that header? Does Nosworthy have any strenght? Did Simonsen just panic and get rid without looking?

These types of mistakes can be ironed out....(sorry no pun intended)

Its a bad result, but shake it off and laugh it off. We are still very much a work in progress, and prophesies of doom are un-necessary and unhelpful.

Drop this player, drop that player, its all McCabes fault...its now that we have to show our patience, not get wound up by one result. It starts 0-0 on Saturday again...

Agree with the first paragraph Dunc, but as for the second, how long does our main striker (Chedward) get before he should be "rested?"

The season is 6 games old agreed, but I include all of last season when making my judgement. The time has stopped for me to defend him. I've given up. Is he a striker? Is he a midfielder? Answer: He's probably neither.

Dagnall showed him what a striker should be like last night.

Its probably time to be reflective rather than anything else
WE came off a home win against a very poor Preston side that we only got due to a wonder strike from Calve, played much better against a very very poor side in Derby, won 1-0 and should have had five or six.
Last night again highlighted how poor we are in front of goal and whilst in many ways we outplayed Scunthorpe, they took advantage of our defensive frailties and scored four.
Unfortunately, this is a results based business and no matter how 'well' we played last night 0-4 at home to a side , with all due respect, like Scunthorpe who can only aspire to play every season in the Championship with gates of 7,500 and their limited resources, is not good enough.
We need a striker I hear everyone saying, but my reply would be that we have two current full internationals in Boggy and Evans -why are they not scoring Are the not good enough?
Boggy got 14 for Barnsley last season, left them to earn a far bigger salary with us and can't get into the team!
I have heard so many excuses regarding Evans, the mind boggles - is he good enough or what!
Obviously at home Monty, Ertl and Britton doesn't work especially if you go 0-1 down
Speedo has been around long enough to know what to do!
But I don't want to read that people are happy despite being thumped 0-4 at home to Scunthorpe!

We had the first half of the first half and could have scored 3 or 4 .After that I thought they had us sussed and were happy to watch us pass it around with no real idea of what we hoped to achieve.
Sometimes we took a pass too many ! who thought you`d ever hear that said ?

As for Ched he was a post width away from scoring a brilliant goal in the first half ,but ,by such narrow margins are careers made and lost

Here we go, how anyone can single out Ched for last night is beyond me. First half he was constantly on the ball moving outwide with Ward switching into the middle. Couple of chances, one hit the post, one blocked and another one deflected behind for a goal kick (shite ref).
Cresswell and Ward had far worse games but the only one who gets brought up is Ched.

As for the game it was a total freak result, we played really well for the first 60 mins. The first goal was a clear handball, the second was shit marking by us, the third was a foul and the fourth was just crap but the game was over. When we were talking about a new manager people said they wanted us to play football and that it would take time. Well no one can say that the football played wasn't significantly improved and that there wasn't quite a bit of promise. Which is why the result is a freak because after a 4-0 loss there should be concerns but I just didn't see them, apart from Nos having a nightmare and Monty looking out of place. Come Saturday I hope we keep the same style and again take another step forward.

Freak result, work in progress, massive signs of improvement in play, move on.

That's the spirit Fleety, only three points off the play-offs and a run of very winnable games coming up......

I agree it was a freak result, only seperated by a team that can score against a team that couldn't and a team that made defensive mistakes against a team that didn't. Smash and grab, or just football? Yes I'm shell shocked and as others say, we move on. But it doesn't change my view of the fella.

I know I've singled out Ched and I make no excuse for that Bob. The reason is, it 's the same story week in, week out I don't base this view on the 6 games of this season. I base it the whole of last season as well. We need a goal scorer, simples. He aint one, simples!

One can argue until the cows come home, as football is all about opinions. You are entitled to yours, as I am mine.

There were others that didn't perform as well, as you rightly say in your summing up of last night, but they at least mix poor performance with good performances. Chedward doesn't for me. What I will say is tho, he is at least consistant in his performances. I just cannot see what he brings to the team.

Forgive me for my binkered view, but like I say, having defended him all of last season, I wont anymore. He should be rested and someone else should be given an opportunity to score goals. Whether that is Boggy, or Ward plays on the last man, or Speed can get someone in I don't know.

I repeat what I've said above. Dagnall showed him what a striker should be like last night!

Completely agree re: Ched - his best game in a Utd shirt IMO. Very very unlucky last night.

Also agree with your point in respect of Cressy and Ward who were both poor by their own standards last night. Ward's still trying to do too much and Cresswell is offering nothing at the monent.

i don't agree that ched should be singled out but lets be honest we can't continue with him not getting goals, he just doesn't seem to get in the right positions and wants it on a plate. As for cressy he isn't half the player that finished last season not sure why that is and ward, well he can be class but at the same time very poor he also needs to up his game, i see him have a good first 20 mins then seems to lose interest. I will still stand by that 3 defensive midfielders will not win you many games at home, something has to give.

Absolutely, and it's a long time since I was more confident of a win than I was last night............
