How many bad mistakes did Henderson make for us?

In two years with us I can think of three games where he was seriously at fault. Leeds at home in 2018 when he passed the ball out to the Leeds player, Villa away in the 3-3 draw where he had a bit of a nightmare and Liverpool at home this season. There are other times when he 'could have done better', but this isn't bad for someone who has played 90 games for us.
You see the mistakes de Gea, Ederson and Pickford have made and you realise what a good job Henderson did for us.
Goalkeepers are scrutinised far more than the old days, in the 1980s for example you would rarely see the goals again, so a goalkeeping error was far more likely to be forgotten, except perhaps for a couple of letters in the Green Un the following week. Now the goals can be seen instantly and mistakes scrutinised all over social media.
I am happy we have signed Ramsdale, but we have been lucky to have had Henderson fot the last two years.

I’d add Arsenal at home in the FA Cup to that list, but I agree he’s been a great keeper, with the proviso that he’s been very well protected by the most organised defence in the Premier League.

I imagine Ramsdales kit will be a lot cleaner this season

The save against Norwich away was as brilliant and as critical as they come.

Personally I like to remember the saves he made to save us, far more of those than his errors I say good luck to him but I refuse to look for the bad things in him.

Well it gives a statistical view that only 3 games affected by mistakes in 2 seasons which is about 80 games shows he is a good 'keeper and since we only had him on loan we were...do you get where this is going? Personally I don't believe in luck so I'd say well done to the lads who identified, brought him in and stumped up the cash to make it happen.

My opinion:
Henderson has been brilliant for us & will be remembered for some incredible saves. If we gad been able to keep him he would have been a Blades legend alongside Simon Tracey (my personal favourite) & Akan Kelly.
However: as I told my Man U fan, future 'son in law', the difference between 'Lane Legend' & Man U/England number 1 is huge. Intense Premiership, Champions League & Internatuonal scrutiny will highlight the random mistakes & minor weaknesses (beaten at the near post + not coming for crosses + hesitant coming off his line) that we accept. Remember these fans will be judging him on Schmeichel & De Geya (at his best) etc.

I hope Deano makes it at the top & thanks for the brilliant saves& passion.

Good point, but it is to show just how few there were. When a goalkeeper makes a mistake it gets scrutinised so much.

On the United twitter page it recently showed highlights of the United 4 Plymouth 3 game 10 years ago. Simonson went out flapping at a cross which led to one of the Plymouth goals. Every time a centre went in with Simonson in goal I was worried. We forget how important it is to have a reliable goalkeeper.

Against Watford at home this season, leaving a space the size of the, well, Watford Gap so Deulofeu could score easily. I think Henderson started to come out only to hesitate and go back.

Hendo was excellent for two years and we will do well to find anyone around the same standard.

Apart from those obvious mistakes, there was some question about his covering of the front post on occasions which was often a bit harsh in my opinion. The Che Adams goal away at Soton was poor in my opinion, as due to the defender, the shot was only ever going near post.

The amount of excellent saves made more than made up for any errors. Be interesting to see what happens next as Man U have quite an issue to resolve between him and De Gea.

Hendo has been a very good keeper for us - and become a bit of a cult figure because of his personality. I don’t think he’s the best Blades keeper as some have suggested - in my time watching the Blades I think Alan Kelly was better. I don’t think he’s quite as good as some make out - he is prone to the odd error and he has been exposed on his near post a few times. I think Nick Pope is slightly ahead of him in terms of England.

But as I said, a very good keeper.

I wonder if the coaches nowadays try to separate out the different aspects of a keeper’s job in the modern game. For Henderson it would go something like this:
1. Shot-stopping- excellent
2. Howlers - very few
3. Areas for improvement- near-post position; coming for crosses. He can improve the percentage of good decisions
4. Ability to start attacks - not strong, but that doesn’t worry me
5. Ability to concentrate - excellent
6. Ability to organise defenders - good
7. Contribution to team ethos - outstanding
8. Recovery from mistakes - excellent

ManU will be a different challenge, but I think he will probably make it to the top. It has been a privilege to watch him for 2 years.

It will be an interesting time for Henderson. Lets say He was picked for Manure and made a couple of mistakes in a the first couple of months de Gea would reclaim number 1 spot and Henderson goes to the bench for the rest of the season He can't prevent that other than by his performances He has been great for us, probably made by us and his time at Shrewsbury Playing at Manure will be different - different systems, lineups and personnel in front of him every week An expectation to play out more with his feet (not his strongest asset) I can see him going backwards. Ramsdale if we get him in a way has it easier - good keeper coach concentrating on keeping rather than playing Howe suicide ball. I seem him going forwards and maybe getting in front of Henderson in terms of the Euros

Towards the end of last season he started getting beaten by shots at his near post quite a bit. This is a weakness of his, but quite an easy fix.

Other than that, there were less than a handful of major errors across two seasons (Leeds, Villa, Liverpool), quite remarkable at his age.

His rate of improvement was exceptional. He now has total command of his box, I never have any doubts on his ability to come for crosses, to position a wall for a free kick, to organise a defence, to make difficult saves look routine. He is an excellent shot stopper as the stats attest to.
But even just from memory I can very quickly rattle off tight games in which he made fantastic saves to win us points. Saves he had no right to be making.

He's already an excellent goalkeeper and if he irons out the remaining weaknesses in his game (distribution mainly) then he'll be one of the best.

I agree he must have been worth 10 points for us this season and don't forget he is just a young lad still developing .Having said that I can not think of any better keepers in the prem apart from possible Pope.We can not go on wondering weather he is available for us at the end of every season so i agree with Wilder that we do need our own keeper .It would be nice if it was Hendo but it could never happen ,in wages alone we are not in that ball park.
