I do wonder that if Cakir's club, (not knowing how CW operates within the transfer market, in not being held to ransom), they now know they have cocked up big time thinking they could get more money out of United by continually increasing the selling price. I wouldn't be surprised that knowing we're now nearer to signing an alternative, they come back in a panic accepting our original offer. (If indeed an offer was placed in the first place).

have you ever worked in a foreign country? have you ever been in a workplace where everyone speaks a language thoroughly unfamiliar to you? have you ever had to adapt to a new culture and climate? have you ever been separated from all that is familiar to you; family and friends included? based on your comment i’d wager the answer to all of the above is likely ‘no’.
It doesn't answer why 'English' in particular. Irish, Welsh, Scottish all speak English as a first language.
Also, I believe there are other non-english, and non-British players in the prem who do ok???

The comment certainly didn't warrant your condescending replies.

Common opinion changes reyt fast on here. £15m was 'way too much' t'other day, now £20m is a bargain. Had it been another club paying that, I don't think many of us would be making the same kind of statements, if we're being totally honest.

Having said that CW has earned trust and situations like this is where that comes in.

Looking at some of the posts on this thread we have next seasons scapegoat just about sorted.
My view for what it is worth is Hendo has outgrown Sheffield United, no way are we going to pay them possibly £5m to develop their next #1 keeper. If we get Ramsdale then we probably save £4m in wages in one season on a keeper who is in my opinion not that far behind Hendo, around the same age and potential but more importantly will be ours. It all adds up to we have a asset who should we need to sell will bring in more than we paid for him, really what is there not to like it really does make sound financial sense without making a huge hole in the team.
Henderson has a choice to make now play #2 at Man Utd or move elsewhere either on loan or permanent he is not going to be their #1 just yet as like Ramsdale he is young and not the finished article. The thing is can he find a club willing to shell out £5m for an item they will never own, I suspect there will only be a few who are daft enough or rich enough, maybe a year in Italy?

I've just watched that , he never catches it , always parties it away , and they cut the clip just before the follow-up attacker puts it in. No footage of him coming out to claim a high ball so can't assess his command of the area. No idea re his kicking. But he's got to stop parrying it out to attackers.

So he's exactly the same as Henderson then?

In todays terms I think £18m is fairly reasonable, I know it's a lot of money but that's just the going rate for Premier League players nowadays, especially if they're young/English. Pickford was in an almost identical situation to him (highly rated young English GK that was a stand out in a terrible relegated side) and went for 30-odd million 3 years ago. You've got to think of it like an investment aswell, if we pay this big sum of money now it enables us to have someone in net that could very easily play there for the next 10-15 years and we've not got to worry about carrying on with this annual revolving door of keepers + can spend our budget in other areas in years going forward. Or he can exceed expectations and we can flip him to Spurs or someone for £50m in 3 years time.

I also pray that he doesn't get perpetually compared to Henderson and people don't use Hendo as some sort of yardstick to beat Ramsdale with as soon as he makes a mistake, the reality is that Ramsdale probably is going to be a downgrade but you could say the same about any goalkeeper we could have realistically signed. Hendo is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at 23 and is currently at the centre of a number 1 debate for Manchester United vs bloody David de Gea. We were never gonna get him or anyone close to as good as him.

£18.5m would be having our pants down.

I’d say it’s a good deal for a young English keeper who’s just had a decent season in the top flight. 🤷‍♂️

£18.5m isn’t a big transfer fee these days. It won’t be all upfront either. Haven’t we just made £125m+ from last season?

Judging by the tone of the tweet I'd guess that means the deal is £21.75m - 15% = £18.5m.
Hopefully with £5-6m coming our way in a sell on for Brooks it helps fund the deal further.

Ultimately it isn't a lot for a 22 year old goalkeeper, highly rated with a full season of Premier League football behind him.

I don't think he's going to win us points in the same way that Henderson did, but he's low-risk, with potentially a lot of upside and will (as a minimum) be very competent.

Ultimately, we were slightly spoilt with Henderson. We will now need to improve at the other end if we're going to convert as many of those tight games into points.

Happy enough with Ramsdale. Seems a solid move & a good match.
Thought you weren't a big fan of him? Maybe I've got you mixed up with another poster.

Think it'd be a great add! Young, lots of potential and wouldn't need to settle in too much. Loads of potential and secures our goalkeeping position long term.

I think only the United of yesteryear do things like that, and even then we hardly played hardball in the first place #slabhead

Will be about a third of our total budget for transfers.

We wont be paying anything like £18.5 m for him. Certainly not upfront, at any rate. They still owe us money from the Brooks transfer. If they paid 50% upfront and then in two further instalments, they’d owe us roughly £3m. So say we’ve wiped that off the fee. £15.5m. Then there’s a sell-on clause for Brooks that could potentially net us £5m...so that’s £10.5m. We won’t be paying it all upfront. So it could end up being an initial payment of only about £5m. These are only guesstimates, guys. But no one pays the whole transfer fee all at once.

I'd be underwhelmed if we signed him.

I'd be staggered and far from happy if we've paid £18.5m for him.

I’ve a feeling he’ll win you over Kozzy... If you think Hendo is passionate then wait till you see Rambo giving it some!
You know he’s gonna give it is all every game. Couple that with Wardy developing his skills on a daily basis and we’re on to a winner here! UTB

I admit the quoted figure is more than I expected, but on the other hand, it is probably more than we’ll actually pay. Moreover, the market determines the price, not the opinions of people like me, and true value will only be determined in retrospect.

When we do pay prices that make my eyes water - Oli, Berge, Ramsdale - I’ve been satisfied that the scope for accruing value is high enough to warrant the gamble.

I think that’s where your last sentence comes into play.

Well I hope you're right.

I think there's room to negotiate here, they still owe us a chunk of the Brooks money evidently plus we have at least a 10% sell on clause for Ramsdale.

If they get £20m for Ramsdale, (that is absolute tops, can't see them getting more than that) that's at least £2m to us and if they owe us say £3-£5m for DB36 a deal for around £13-£15m all in should be enough. To be honest, anything over that ball-park and we should walk away, rather see us spend £4m on Deano's wages for another 12m or someone like Ben Foster on a years deal.

Think you called this correctly Torrix! I'm really pleased, assuming he comes, that Ramsdale is back. I previous,y thought £12m was about right, but even if it was more, he's clearly a good keeper and is only going to get better. Crucially he's our asset of course to develop. Its a bonus that he has an affinity for us and I'm sure he'll be buzzing to be back!

The advantage we have in signing Ramsdale is that our coaching staff know every nut and bolt of the player.
They know exactly what he brings to the table in terms of ability and character and it is subsequently not a gamble to buy a guy who slots straight in at a price that they consider to be the best value for money of all the available keepers.

I think people need to wake up a bit. Players prices have sky rocketed in the last few years, especially since the club doesn't need to sell.

£18.5m and I feel so underwhelmed.
I wouldn’t be too influenced by the figure, I’m sure that’s loaded with all addons. Only last week we were told a £12m bid for Cash had been rejected, and it was apparently closer to £6 with add ons.
The only question is do you want/rate the player?
