A possible future England keeper (even if a squad member), could be our keeper for many years and with a better defence infront of him. I think we will look back and say it was a great piece of business. I hope. Also how much did the top keepers in England go for. Maybe I'll do some research.

Excellent compilation from last season. Looks quality to me.

I've just watched that , he never catches it , always parties it away , and they cut the clip just before the follow-up attacker puts it in. No footage of him coming out to claim a high ball so can't assess his command of the area. No idea re his kicking. But he's got to stop parrying it out to attackers.

Think it's important to note that none of the stats people are quoting say Ramsdale is a bad keeper. They show he was round about middle of the pack for the whole Premier League last season. Henderson was a top 5 keeper on most metrics, but signing Henderson permanently is never going to be an option.
If he's the 10th best keeper in the league he's worth the money

To be fair, the lad is only very young in goalkeeper terms anyway, he could go on to be an exceptional keeper for us. He loves the club which is a great start. Its just the fee I feel that people are upset about which is irrelevant really

How can any of our fans moan about the fee 🤔

Jesus christ he has real potential and is a quality keeper already.

Chelsea paid 72m for an operated keeper we are paying 18.5m.

We are up against the big boys now we are not in the championship or league 1 now.

If we are to continue to build on last season we have to keep improving our squad and adding our own No1 goalkeeper who has potential to be an England International goalkeeper and double his transfer fee if he does well and is only 22 years old which is very young he could be our number 1 for the next 10 years at least.

Fingers crossed we will get it over the line.

Very few of those saves were catchable and most catchable saves wouldn’t make a highlight real..

look... if Bash and Didzy experienced the Wilder effect, then who are we to say that Henderson didn’t experience this too

it wouldn’t massively surprise me if Ramsdale ends up overtaking Henderson at some point in their respective England careers, football changes so rapidly, hendo will get pelters as Man Utd first team keeper and maybe he isnt quite there yet, time will tell

Im gonna be a lazy chuff and instead of searching for it myself can someone compare the distribution stats of Hendo and Rammers?

We had 12m turned down. I don't care how much Cherries wanted , CW's next bid would never be 18.5m - far more likely to be 15m.

There are all sorts of potential confusions about this particular fee , which may suit the Cherries as it keeps their fans happy thinking the fee is bigger.

There's the question if basic fee , supplemented by performance add-ons.
Then there's our sell-on clause.
Some media have even brought in the £ we are still owed for Brooks (though how that's relevant ?).
Anyway , I don't think we'll ever get to the bottom of what this fee was or might be in the future.
I think that 18.5m sounds high but A) I'm not inclined to believe it & B) I am not going to allow it to cloud the acquisition of a permanent GK who will be happy to be here + not just looking for the biggest bucks like Cakir.

It’s not irrelevant if it’s not value is it? You wouldn’t pay a tenner for a packet of cheese and onion crisps would you?

Last week I asked my old friend, about Ramsdale. He's a Bournemouth season ticket holder.

"Ramsdale has been brilliant, honestly. Such a good leader as well. I’d be gutted to lose him at this stage. I’m resigned to losing the likes of King and Wilson but if we can keep Ramsdale and Brooks (for this season at least) and build the team around them I think we could do well. What do you think of the blades getting him?"

I know I'm in the minority here, but I interpret the fee as £18.5m gross including the sell on 15% means net £15.7m

Which I think might tie in with old articles saying we haven't bid enough and that Cherries want £15m

I could be completely wrong (but it isn't very often 😁 )

As for Ramsdale, I rate him. He's always looked good. Full of confidence. Commands his defence. However, do I think the fee is a little too high? Unfortunately yes, but what do I know?
It's been reported that the fee is after the sell-on. Meaning we've offered ~£22m and we're going to pay £18.5m.

Considering the cost of some keepers these days (Kepa cost £71m), it's not a huge amount. It's less than Everton paid for "England's #1" 3 years ago and we won't be paying that up front.

This makes more sense of the fee from YL:

First of all, Bournemouth still owe money from their purchase of David Brooks in 2018, which United have used, along with knocking off a 15% sell-on fee for Ramsdale. A large part of the deal is incentives and add-ons, which if achieved will increase the price United have to pay over time.

However, for now the actual money the Blades are parting with is far less than that being quoted. And taking into account United also have a sell-on fee for Brooks, should he move they are also looking to use their share of that money to reduce any future payments.

That's the reason Wilder has been in for Ramsdale from day one - they had chips they could bargain with to reduce how much they would have to fork out.

Heard Bournemouth still owed us money for Brooks? Maybe that money was involved in the Ramsdale deal?

We couldn’t afford Henderson - this is an absolute no-brainer.

Less than £20 mill for a 22 year old, possible future England number 1. Sounds a decent bit of business.

Totally agree...makes sense for so many reasons,
He’s tried and tested with experience at PL level.
He already knows the club really well and we know him (his ability and personality) really well.
He’s still very young, English and likely to improve over the years.
We can no longer be blackmailed by Man Utd....they had the power....but not any more.....they now need to find another club for Henderson.

For all the stats people, it’s based on ONE season. And a season where he played for one of the worst teams in the league. I’m fully bought into the stats side of things but I think you need to go deeper than that on this and actually just watch the guy play.

Very true, the eye test matters. Also one season isn't great either as a sample size. This is three seasons below, but unfortunately the site I use doesn't have the save % stats for League One in 2018/19 (Ramsdale at Wimbledon).

I know Chris would take me seriously!!! 👍 🤣

They owe us the final installment for Brooks - something around £4m plus whatever add-ons he's triggered this season.

It won't reduce the fee by much, it'll just be a cashflow thing for Bournemouth which we will have leveraged to our advantage.

I think one thing that pleases me about this is how vocal he is. Just from watching highlights, you can see he's a confident lad who isn't afraid to bark orders at an experienced defence.

Interesting the way that we're spending cash too (even if this figure is going to be made up of all manner of clauses and increments.)

It’s not irrelevant if it’s not value is it? You wouldn’t pay a tenner for a packet of cheese and onion crisps would you?
Whatever fee we pay there is no guarantee of success or failure. If he has a good season for us in the Prem he will be worth more
