We need to start getting real when it comes to fees paid and that we will have to continue to pay if we want to survive and thrive in the Premier League.

Bournemouth havent ‘had our pants down’ by charging 18.5mil for Ramsdale. He’s 22, with a season of PL experience and a POTY trophy to his name. He is a maturing investment not just a player who we are going to bring in for a year or 2. Another season of PL experience and he’s worth £30mil. An extremely impressive season and England call up? Probably £50mil.

This is the latest in a long line of ‘arrrr much’ Yorkshire war cries from our fans since promotion. Lys Mousset was the first, followed by Oli McBurnie, and even some said the same for Sander Berge. We really need to get real and fast.

We could go abroad and try and pick a player up for a snip of the price, yes. But for every Calgar Soyuncu and Ruben Neves you’ve got an Adrien Silva and a Sebastian Haller. Just because they’ve done well in a foreign league does not mean they’ll do well here.

Personally I won’t lie, I wanted Cakir. But at £22mil he loses the ‘better value for money’ selling point. It comes down to who has the better experience, and not many come from the Turkish league directly to the Prem and do brilliantly because the standard is of the Championship at best.

Ramsdale is a safe pair of hands, a number 1 for potentially 10 years, and has a very realistic chance of rivalling Henderson for the England number 1 shirt by the end of the season. He’s going to be behind a much much better defence then he was at Bournemouth, and dare I say it if Henderson was there instead of at the Lane this season he would’ve had the exact same problems.

Get behind him and support him. And start getting real when it comes to fees in this division.

ARRRR FUCKIN MUCH?!?!

Totally agree, & while it is frustrating sometimes it is also something that marks our fans out from that lot in South Barnsley. Imagine the spaffing that would be going on over at NKT over a purchase like this!

I said the same when we gave away the best young English keeper in 2016. Not many voices of support then 😉 As it is the potential actually seemed hire then. I don't see many/if any improvements between that Rambo and this one and I watched almost every Bournemouth league game last season.

I wanted Çakir too but only based on stats, you can't deny Ramsdale has PL experience.

Plus, we've got a sell on so that's a couple of million knocked off. For a first choice, highly rated, English player we've robbed them really.

If Sky aren't talking out their arses...

Weird that people were up for spending more money on a player who is completely unproven at PL level and had excelled in the Turkish top flight - a league probably on par with Scotland outside of the top 4 clubs.

Yet POTY in the PL, proven young keeper who we’ve worked with before with huge potential, is seen as too much? When he would cost less than the Cack lad?

Odd times. 🤷‍♂️

Who’s moaning about spending money on Ramsdale? If it’s people on Facebook then I’d probably just ignore it.

I blame McCabe for it personally. He used to peel oranges in his pocket the tight cunt. So despite us having to get used to these fees becoming more the norm, it'll take a huge change in attitude from myself and others.

Every social media site is full of people that think £10m should get you a 19 year old 20 goal a season striker.

It could, in 1995.

In 1995 though I could have bought a house for what you pay for the deposit now.

I'm more than happy to be mildly heretical about a 'keeper...not entirely convinced about Ramsdale, and for all the adulation that has appeared on threads like this, don't forget he was the last line of defence at a club who were always candidates for relegation.

As I wrote earlier I'll support the fella, but even with a season's experience at this level under his belt, together with his existing defence it was clear that the writing was on the wall. Yes, he'll have a superior defence in front of him, but as is the case with each new season everyone has to once again prove that their reputations are deserved, so let's see how they gel and then we can make an informed judgement. Can't comment on the Turkish 'keeper with any authority, other than we weren't the only club interested in him, whereas with Ramsdale I didn't see any mentions of (many/any) other clubs preparing bids for the player.

I get the point that by Prem standards this isn't a huge fee to pay, but we're not known (up until now) as break the bank merchants so let's reserve opinions until we see how Ramsdale performs over a couple of months. In the main I think Wilder's appreciation of a player is better than average, so that gives me a bit of faith in this signing, but as I say, time will tell and no amount of stats or telling myself the player is better than he is will convince me. If this deal works out then Wilder will have secured a decent 'keeper for a relatively moderate fee, and hopefully that will turn out to be the case.

From the recent pictures of Ramsdale he certainly looks a lot bigger and older than he did, behind Egan, JOC and Bash they will certainly look threatening

Cakir may statistically be better. But don't underestimate the fact that a lot of foreign players fail, or are slow, to adapt to the Premier League. Can you imagine the outcry if we signed him and he dropped a few clangers in the first few games?

Ramsdale's had 3 seasons of professional football as a keeper. Finished bottom for Chesterfield in 17/18, finished 3rd from bottom with Wimbledon in 18/19 and 3rd from bottom with Bournemouth in 19/20.

Fair play to Bournemouth; they've had us twice on the same player. A double ended dildo of a deal. Bought from us low & sold to us high. From £1m to £18.5m in 3 seasons. 👍

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter what I think, K. I have an opinion; it's neither informed nor carries any weight.

CWAK obviously rate him highly and see both current ability & future improvement and value for money at the reputed £18.5m transfer fee. And that's the only thing that matters.

Personally, I don't think that he's done enough last season to justify the fee. He's played less than 40 top level games, and got POTY at a relegated club. I've seen him have decent games & i've seen him have shockers. £12m would be more my idea of value, especially post Covid and for a relegated side. Perhaps some of our views are coloured by him being an ex-blade.

For £18.5m, I'd have preferred us to have paid £100k a week for Hendo on loan. Another loan would be a very good fit for all three parties. Another good season in the PL for us & him, and more money in the coffers would give us more power in the transfer market this time next year. The £5m loan cost is only the difference between 3 placings in the final league table.

It would've also left us £13.5m to put with what we get for CR, to spend on something sparkling up top. :)

£18.5 million presumably less what we get back in sell-out (which given he was cheap I'd guess was 20-25%)? That's like £12/3 million for a goalkeeper who at 22 was considered to be one of the best players this season in a premier league team which got relegated.

A goalkeeper who will hopefully be with us for 5 years plus.

His stats don't look great but he's had zero defence (defence or midfield) in front of him. It's not like he has been facing the same kid of shots as other keepers.

He's more solid than spectacular. But I'd rather have an Alan Kelly Mr reliable type in goal

Is the £18.5 million without the sell on deducted?

If you think about it. Best player in a Premier League team at the age of 22. Goalkeepers peak at 30. He's a local lad who knows the club and didn't want to leave us in the first place.

We could pay the money for Hendo but we'd be in exactly the same position next season without someone like Ramsdale available. This way, if all goes well. We'll be sorted for a keeper for 5 years plus.

He joined Wimbledon in January when they were bottom of league one and won player of the year helping to keep them up. I think it was a similar situation at Chesterfield as well.

I’ve not seen enough of Ramsdale to judge properly but whilst I think it’s a lot of money, the potential is there and the PL experience - I trust in the same staff that identified Dean Henderson for loan 2 years ago , I’m sure not many followed his career at Shrewsbury and saw his potential either. Prefer to have our own GK rather than Man Us On loan again that we have no chance of signing permanently

You’d rather we signed a foreigner we’d never heard of. We get it 👍🏻

Regards your later point: there’s nothing to suggest Man U are letting Henderson out on loan, nor to us

If English and 'heard of them' are the important criteria then we should have signed Joe Hart on a free.

What a strange response. That’s clearly not my point 🤣

Just saying, in the OP you wanted the foreigner we'd never heard of ("I wanted Çakir I won't lie") so it's a bit much to try and make out that he's obviously a poorer choice.

Ramsdale is a known quantity and his stats apply to the Premier League but that also means we know he's got a long way to go.

Çakir is a lot closer to Henderson statistically, but obviously it's a gamble because he'd be new to the league, some fans like the gamble though.

I never said he’s a much poorer choice? I just preferred the idea of Cakir. But for the price 1 v 1 I’d rather have Ramsdale I think
