Before last Friday, when was the last time two former Blades played in the same England team? My guess would be the 1920's or possibly even earlier. Anyone know?

I can remember Deane (SUFC) & Fatboy Hirst (SWFC) partnering upfront together i bet that's never been done before??

in answer to your previous question Sothall... I have no idea.

Think about the future. Euro 2012, a back 4 of ex blades.

Reyt side!!!

There was one former Blade (Colin Grainger) and one current Blade (Alan Hodgkinson) in the England team vs Scotland in 1957. I am not certain but don't think 2 former Blades have featured in the same side since, until last week.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that we had so many good players in the mid-50's but I've just been reading up on them now. It makes you wonder why we never had any success with the likes of "The singing winger" Grainger, Hodkingson and my Dad's favourite player and "best uncapped Centre Half in England" Joe Shaw. No cup runs, no finish higher than 13th, several relegation battles. What went wrong?
