TV Coverage The Future?

With the lock down came unprecedented live TV coverage of every game through Sky/BT & Amazon. With a third full capacity for each ground next season already being suggested then the live TV coverage will continue. Then when everything gets back to normal and grounds are at full capacity (apart from the pigs, sorry couldn't resist) I can see the precedent being set that live TV of every game will continue with more money than ever going to the clubs.

I can see loads in favour of this and loads not being in favour but it could be that this happens as a way forward and probably starting with the Premier league. How its done is anyones guess but there are already mutterings about this

Its speeded all the Tech up like working from home...tings are changing like it or not

I think sky and bt have already said it goes back to normal TV set ups for next season which considering fans are banned seems set up for fans to go down the streaming route

Maybe it’d be a worthwhile venture for the Premier League - as there’ll usually be more demand than supply for match-day tickets.
But maybe not for the other leagues where they want people through the gates & spending money on ale, pies & programmes.
As you say, issues both ways but invariably when technology moves forward, it rarely moves backwards again.
Concorde is a notable exception.

Considering how turgid and miserable the matches on tv have become, I'd imagine the PL and tv companies are lobbying hard for fans to be back into grounds.

Without it their 'product' is dead in the water. People aren't going to keep paying out £££ to watch it...

It would make sense for the clubs to charge a viewing fee and film their own games whilst they have restricted capacities. £5 a pop. Make a bit more money and allow fans who can't get to the games to see them. Pricing needs to be carefully thought through given illegal streams will be about, but I'm guessing most fans will pay £5 if it goes to the club.

Good point but tens of thousands would buy to watch games involving other teams other than the ones they go to support.
Personally as much as I like away games I would make stadiums home supporters only and sell viewing to all other fans. Would be a mega revenue stream and reduce policing by 90%

For me £20/ game would be fair. Three or four of us would watch and it’s probably £150-£200 cheaper than four of us going to an away game.

I’d much rather pay a few quid to watch the match legally, than take my chances with a free dodgy stream which might get taken down or constantly buffer.

The problem with clubs selling their own matches is that the likes of Man U, Liverpool etc. will make at least 10 times the revenue from selling their matches than we would. There needs to be a continuation of TV rights being sold by the Premier League with the revenue being distributed evenly. Anything else and the competitiveness of the league will suffer.

The future has to be a Netflix style Premier League streaming service.

Be interesting because in March this year UEFA removed the block on showing domestic matches on TV at 3pm and that was before the lockdown was in full swing so theortically 3pm matches can be shown on UK TV.

I appreciate there is already a huge gap in revenues, but we don’t want to make it worse!

Without a centralised rights system there will be a huge difference between clubs like us and the top 6. It would be like Spain before they centralised, Real Madrid and Barcelona took the lion’s share.

I’d be in favour of a streaming service at say £10-£15 a month, where every match is available to watch live. The Sunday/Monday matches selected would be guaranteed to be shown, but the Saturday matches could only be shown if the majority of match day tickets are sold, something like 90%. (Similar to the US sports TV blackout system)

Over the top tv , every sports channel u can think of every live premier league game all champions league, £8 a month I pay that's all

DAZN Canada@ $20 per month or $150 dollars a year. Every sport under the sun including all Premier league and Champions league games and a lot of other sports. There really is no need to be involved with the usual rip off merchants.

If it was priced properly and we could all get what we wanted then illegal streams wouldn't be a problem. Neymar might only be able to afford two cars a week rather than twenty but I think we could all live with that

If the Premier League wanted rid of the blackout permanently they would need agreement with the FA for the non league game and the EFL. Not too sure it would generate them the extra income needed to compensate for the others to agree.

Thats what I mean really it opens the way for the bodies to agree to show them or not rather than a blanket No its not allowed. The income didnt really come into it that was something seperate.

Sky Germany you subscribe to your club, then you get all your clubs matches and the best pick of each matchday, also German fans pay like £20 a matchday ticket. They had no issue and stadiums always full to capacity. That model has been going years and it works perfectly. That’s because of vorsprung durch tecknik. Copy it. Das auto ya !

Agree but until we are all vaccinated against COVID 19 no one will be lowed back int stadiums. it’ll be an unfair lottery if it’s 1/3 capacity, supporters could lose their seats and families could be split up.
Go back when we can all go back not before.

Spot on. If you look at countries like Spain where Real and Barce sell their own tv rights - you're right. We go down that route and suddenly Liverpool, Man u and Arsenal are x5 richer than the other clubs.

A streaming service has potential but could well hurt the number of fans physically at the game. If it's one thing that TV companies will have realised over the last 6 weeks, it's that without full stadiums there's no real difference between their product and that from other countries. Would people pay to watch matches regardless of who's logo is in the corner if grounds are at half capacity?

I don't see the problem with this. As someone else has pointed out, they already make 10 times the revenue we do because they are bigger clubs with more fans. Such is life. I'm only suggesting doing this for one season. We already sell our games to fans outside of the UK, I'm not sure what the difference is? It's just like iFollow and the clubs with the most fans get the most money?

Couldnt be helped obviously, but the lack of a crowd takes away a big part of why we watch tv football. Skys crowd noise dubbing is pitiful. And watching a game with no noise at all is like being at a pre season friendly.

I honestly dont know what the answer is, hopefully we will get back to whatever normal is going to be, and we can go to the footy again, or at least watch a game with a reasonable atmosphere.

The question is, when is normal going to be ( a moot point if you're mark the Pitsmoor pig)? You can be fairly certain that normal, and not just in terms of watching sport, is most likely never going to be quite the same again.
