Dunc, watch out, I sense a coup d'etat in the offing, Fleety wants his crown back.

Dunc, never mind that... If Speed gets off to a flyer watch out for Fiery and Mic trying to blind side you...

As a member of the so called 'Sunshine Gang' I call upon all Blades to get behind Gary Speed and his team and let us all put the past behind us!
No I am no overjoyed to hear that Sam Ellis is his number two, but, if it was Speedo's choice then I will go with it! Perhaps Sam is the ideal experienced guy to have alongside a rookie manager, as I said it was Speedo's choice!
Carver has a good pedigree, from the Bobby Robson academy, he's worked well with Speedo before and he'll bring in fresh ideas!
I call on all Blades alike Mic, Ollie, Pinchy, Lenners et al and Boo, Swiss, Dunc and all the clappers to bury the hatchet and give Speedo and the gang our full support:thumbup:

Fully agree - we should ALL give our full support to Speedo and the team, starting on Sunday and lets see how the Board support him (financially).
It will be interesting to see how we are performing by Xmas time.
UTB

I'm generally a clapper. I don't like to see people develop irrational levels of dislike or bitterness toward people due to footy. I don't boo (apart from shitty refs) and if I don't like I don't clap. I was willing to give Blackie the season but now he has gone maybe Speed will get a period of grace the youngsters get where anything they do is clapped and encouraged. I remember a promising move breaking down as Forte let a trickling pass go under his foot on the wing and he got clapped. . . a bit of blind encouragement is needed sometimes.

If he is inept then an awful home loss to Scunny (read Port Vale) with Kozzy floating crosses in to the deserted Kop with 8,000 in the ground will see the end of him.

With the new regime now in place any negativity, poor play and poor results we shall blame on Blackwell or the Ghost of Sheffield United Past !
AS much as I am supporting Speedo for the 'On the Field' performance I still reserve the right to be as negative as ever regarding the on ground catering standards and prices, etc, the so called 'Superstore' and the 'Ticket Office'
Can I still have a rant about those or do we heap their problems onto Mr Blackwell?

Don't blame it on sunshine, moonlight, don't blame it on the good times, Blame it on Blackwell

Ironically Swiss, I was talking to a guy who played with Blackwell in Non -League football when Blackwell was a young and up and coming goalie and even then would not take the blame for anything!

They called him Teflon - nothing would stick to either his gloves or his reputation!

Yeah it all seems quite surreal now, we seem to be in agreement.

Totally behind Speed and I hope we can all stick behind him.

It won't last, it never does. He will pick Monty because, as a football person, he recognises what he brings to a team, and that will imediately get the backs up for some on here. If we have a run of bad results the murmurings of "he's an untried manager" will get louder. Twas ever the same, I'm afraid. This is the honeymoon period, but I predict "Same owd, same owd" postings on here well before Chrimbo.

Christmas? You'll probably be getting them on Sunday.....

Shame the first match is on TV, bit of added pressure i suppose, but it has a nice symmetry to it given that Blackwell's first game was against Middlesbrough too (i think)

I applaud the sentiment Fiery, but the club and manager was never short of support from the clappers. Thats why we're called clappers after all. As for the Sunshine Gang, it would be nice if you could all keep things in perspective, and not be quite so ready to leap on every word of every statement, of every poor performance, or every time the club/team/manager falls short of whatever utopian ideals you might imagine that we should achieve...

...and I'm keeping the hatchet near, an all. I'm not holding my breath. You buggers will soon find summat to moan about. Whenever there is doubting, and unfair criticism, I will be there and ready to defend the club/team/manager, as usual... :)

Dunc, its not about finding one small thing to moan about with Blackwell - He had lost his way, he was an arrogant bully who had lost any ability he had in man management, advocated sh!te football, played players out of position, constantly made excuses, blamed anyone and everyone but himself and didn't have the balls to stand up to McCabe.
I would have applauded him if he had took a stance when McCabe started selling the players, Martin O'Neill did at Villa, but Blackwell was out for himself.
He stood by and saw ateam sold off and said bugger all
Me and many like minded people (sunshine gang perchance) were fed up with his constant whining and moaning thats why we complained - not the odd defeat, not the odd mistake - it was the constant mistakes week in week out the Blackwell kept making and the clappers applauding him - Yes give him till the end of the season - at least now we may have a chance of promotion which is 100% more chance than if Blackwell was still in charge!

Bearing in mind we don't actually know what went on behind closed doors, the dynamics of his relationship with McCabe and the transfers, I think you are making quite a few leaps there Fiery. I dont recall anyone applauding poor performances, not even me, because we could all see that the style wasnt good, but plenty of teams do well without playing good football. Birmingham managed to get promoted and played such unattractive football their fans emptied the ground before their 'lap of honour', if you recall. In the end, he ran out of excuses, I give you that much.

Martin O'Neill hasn't taken a stand against the board, he's taken it agains the whole economic reality of football and the wider world. I haven't seen the number, but someone was telling me that Villa ST sales were down 40%. Resigning in the face of that doesn't say say 'taking a stance', it says 'taking the piss', the mardy twat.

I must admit, I have been really fed up with the constant whining and moaning, but not from Blackwell. I can tell you if you think he was the worst, Blackwell had some really serious competition from this board and others. We've already seen lots of threads questioning Speeds appointment, your own OP questions Sam Ellis's reappointment, presumably on the basis of a. He was a clogging centre half for the pigs, b. He does nothing that we see, therefore he does nothing. You mention promotion, but you can forget that this season. Speed had been given a three year contract for a reason, and we wont be playing pretty triangles any time soon.

What I have noticed in the critisism of Speed appointment is that the same old complaints are coming up again, and I think I've worked it out. The Sunshine Gang are so unhappy with the club because they genuinely think (some more than others) that they know how to run the club better than the people in charge, and this frustration, that the idiots can't see what is plainly obvious to someone who sits in the stands once a week, is what drives the disatisfaction.

Free yourself from it Fiery. Join us on the 'know-nowt and happy to be', side. Not for us to ponder why we don't advertise season tickets in the Star. Not for us to tear ourselves apart wondering why with all that medical support and professional methods that we overtrain our players to the point of injury. Keep turning up on Saturday and give them a cheer, good or bad. Accepting that you dont actually have any influence, that you dont know better that the people doing it for real, and that you dont know anything over 10% of the whole story is so liberating...

I'm reight behind Gary and if he starts talking bollox i'll push him off the cliff !
Cheap as chips was woefull.............and so was McCabe for appointing him..... like many other Blades the big dissapointment was two hat ellis staying at BDTBL....lets see whats happens at Boro ...if we get stuffed shoes off next home game ...Gary OUT ! :D

According to some, we have two kinds of Posters on here.
'the sunshine gang/happy clappers' who don't see any bad in what United do / or more realistically actually support the team by trying to encourage them.
and the second lot who are miserable and don't see any good in what the club / players or anyone connected with the team do and in particular like to blame two certain players for everything negative that happens.

Guess which one I fall into :D

:nana: :nana:

Well, that sounds like me, also. :)

The first bit . . . not the second . . .

"Accepting that you dont actually have any influence"

Do you really believe we [the fans as a whole, not just our gang!] had no influence in Hoof's departure? How and why has our 'style of play' become the major topic it has? TB mentioned it at length at GS' coronation, did he not? 4,000 empty seats [not me, I renewed both my STs] spoke very loudly indeed and the club, thankfully, listened. Don't underestimate the power of public opinion.

I fought The Hoof and I won.

Ahhhh it didn't take long for this to turn into a Blackwell Out is shite thread!

What does this remind me of? Ah yes, George Orwell:

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Alternatively, you could notice that only a couple of weeks ago the Birch was begging for fans to turn up in the Star, that a major factor in Blackwell's sacking was the sale of only 14,000 season tickets, that the club was shocked into giving hundreds of tickets away at the very first match of the season (sensible marketing/PR in the circumstances) and that the over-riding influence is us, the fans.
Possibly, it's not rocket science.

Good call Fiery. As one of the leading members of "the sunshine band" I would like to add my ringing endorsement to this post/thread. I will go on record to say that I am happy with decision to not only get rid of Blackwell, but also appoint Speed as manager. I think the board made the right decision and they deserve credit for that.

I am fully behind Speed and am willing to give him some time to get things right. I am not expecting a lot, I just want 2 things (to try and play a little football and to go out and try to win every game). If he addresses these then I am with him. He will need time to find his feet and build a team/squad in this transitional period and I accept that. As long as we show improvement then I am with him.

If the so called "clâppers" want to bury the hatchett then I am fine with that. That said, I feel no need to as this is a forum and a place for debate. I use the terms sunshine band, callper and knocker in a tongue in cheek sense and do not by into this polarisation nonsense. That said, I am a big clapper for the time being! I am fully beind Speed and hope that everyone else listens to Fierys rallying call and does the same!!!

I, shockingly, agree with Olle. In the past we've disagreed on many topics, but the one thing that remains constant is we want to be able to enjoy going to watch United. I'm sure that we don't realistically expect instant success, just as we don't expect to win the Champion's League in a few years. We know it'll be a roller-coaster ride, we just want it to be one we can enjoy rather than worrying when the wheels will fall off.

Clapper, knocker, inbetweener or label-less, it doesn't matter now.

What's that? You want that old cliche? I can hear it galloping back from over the hill. Ah, here it is....

After all, we're all Blades, aren't we.

I bet you all have a warm fuzzy glow inside now, with a couple of likely exceptions. I'll leave it to you to name names.:D

Hmmm as much as some of you would have me defined, sorry I dont want to be. Perhaps i'm too open minded to be so. All the same I'm up for a good party, so who's for a group hugg.My i 'm welling up with emotion:hug:

Hear, hear.

Must say though I am disappointed with Duncan's contunued attempts to suggest that in wanting Blackwell's sacking it was a call for a utopia of brilliant and successful football.

You can all call me what the chuff you like (and SV normally does :D) I don't give a toss.

In a few weeks time we'll all be hankering after the old favourites, wanting a post with one of the old hits:

Bootwell

Cheap as chips

Hoofy

Who owns the.......O hang on, I don't think that one will ever go away! :D
