not long Blackwell the sunday league season kicks off in September, there maybe a job there for you :D

If true and Blackwell have gone...

who would you like to see as the next manager at the lane?

personally i don't want to Gary Speed in charge because the only managerial experience he have had is with Blackwell.

I agree with that viewpoint.
As McCabe is the man in charge of a major company, it is his duty to appoint the best man for the job.
Just like we did when Reg did his best day's work when he brought in Bassett.
When we appointed Warnock I was disappointed (like a lot of fans) but at least he did get is there eventually.
The main reason I was disappointed was that Venables was available at the time. Wishfull thinking on my part I'm sure.
Who is the best man for the job this time ?
For me it can only be Martin O'Neil. Wishful thinking again but who knows, if there is going to be a major invester coming in just maybe we will get the appointment right.
Wishful thinking again I know............................but as the say 'football is a funny old game'.

Obvious shouts, but Robins or O'Driscoll are still the outstanding 'outside' candidates for me.

I'd be happy with Speed though.

Also Martin O'Neil - lets get back on this planet and face facts. Martin O'Neil would not come to SUFC.

Heard rumours about Phil Brown but the players (or one of them at least) have been expecting Speed to take over for quite a while now. Whilst it's very exciting to speculate about a new manager, I think it's wasted energy as the decision has already been made.

Personally I'm not sure Speed would be the right move. He's either a bad coach (based on performances while in the role) or he doesn't have the strength of personality to get his ideas across (based on performances while in the role). He's a bit 'bland' personality-wise as well, another Robson?

I'd like to think we'll give it more thought but I'm not sure we will. A media friendly, MBE owning, internationally known ex-big name player? Tick tick tick for McCabe I fear

Speed for me. Give him a short contranct to the end of the seaso and see how it goes. We`ve no money and a small, not so good squad so we can`t expect even the best manager to take us up. Why not give it Speed? We al know it`s a transitional season. The wage bills has gone down, we won`t get relegated so lets see if we can play some football.

If we could attract O`Driscoll then I`d take him over Speed (and maybe Robbins too). But if you were O`Driscoll would you come? Donny hve a better saqud than us, lower expectations (hence he is a god) and a more supportive chairman/board. He`d be mad to join us at the moment.

For me Speed is an easy and obvious choice. A no brainer. If he can`t cut it over a season we can take our time and choose someone better. But for now I`d gve it to him.

The bloke that sits near me should be given the job. Or any one of the mouthy know-it-alls that sit within earshot.

OK, well after reading this thread im going to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons and say that, actually, i think Speed would be a very good appointment.

1. Speed is likely to be a media-friendly manager and considering we havent had one of those for many many many years, it would be nice for a change!
2. I think speed is likely to attract players of a high standard because he was a well respected player whom i feel players may feel 'honoured' to play under him.
3. Speed has played at a top level and is likely that he will have plenty of useful training styles to encourage football rather than "so you stand at that end of the pitch and i will kick it to you"
4. Hes young, working his way into football management and we know for a fact he isnt just doing it for a pension scheme.

I say give him a go.

Has anything been said about Ellis leaving the Club ?
McCabe wouldn't.................................Would he ? Surely not.
I feel ill even thinking about the prospect.

Tony Mowbray?

That's a nice idea in theory but not the right appointment for us. He might be an exponent of stylish attacking football, but as I say time and time again.....can you really seem him getting fluid football out of Morgs, Monty and Cresswell (no offence to those lads). Without changing the entire spine of the team, we aren't built for it.

yes Lou Sheffield United are exempt from the normal rule of thumb that a new boss can come in and change things....

If we could attract O`Driscoll then I`d take him over Speed (and maybe Robbins too).

Assuming you mean Mark and not Ted, why?

Barnsley did worse under him than Davey last season, they played by far the least attractive football of any visitor to Bramall Lane last season and he makes Blackwell look like the sort of bloke you'd like to have a couple of pints with.

That's the appointment, Den Perry. He knows how to run a club and get the right people in. He discovered that Baptiste guy........'I'm getting the word, nonce!' :D

I'm not convinced that Gary Speed has the authority or gravitas to manage professional footballers.

He was a very poor captain on Question of Sport

;)

I would like Martin O'neil. So come on Mr. McCabe, show some ambition, you've been the best chairman i've known in my time watching the Blades. Push the boat out one more time as your swansong! Leave the Blades with a great manager for once instead of an also-ran.

Being as he spunked away £130m on players there, and still won sod all, it's more a luxury liner/yacht than a boat the club is pushing out!

Alan Curbishley. Now there's a name you don't hear very often. What is he up to nowadays?
