I’m not laughing, but I have to say I think the hypothetical signing of Pukki would be a huge waste of money for us. I’ll even say that allowing for what Norwich would likely demand for him, I’d be really annoyed at United for paying it.
He’s 30 years old and I‘ve never seen anything from him that makes me think he’s more than a (slightly) younger Sharp - he’s a finisher, he doesn’t create his own chances, or link play like McGoldrick can. He can’t stretch a team with pace and he’s not overly physical.
Since mid September he’s scored 5 goals. Since mid December, it’s 3 - and 2 of them were penalties.
11 goals from 30 appearances is fine. He’s fine. It’s more than any of our players will score this season. He’s scored 11 goals from almost exactly 11xG - so he takes chances at the rate you’d expect an average striker to take them, given a fair wind. But none of our current strikers have benefitted from the sustained run in the team he has (he’s played almost 1000 minutes more than our most-played striker, McBurnie) and being the focal point of their attacks week after week, and so they haven’t had the chances created for them that he has (our player with the highest xG is McGoldrick, with 7 - and we all know his finishing abilities this season). None of them have taken a penalty either.
