If he's worse than Moore , we need 3 keepers in the summer when Hendo departs.
Just what is the reason Verrips can't get a game ?
Is it the contractual problem still ?

We need Henderson for one more season if we can get him, that crucial second season, after that we need a good permanent keeper so we're not restricted on the loan market.

We need a permanent keeper now tbh. Hendo is great but we are just delaying the inevitable problem.

If Bournemouth go down we really ought to pull out all the stops to sign Ramsdale. Even at 20m he is a long term investment.

Can't be contractual, he played in the FA Cup before Kean Bryan smashed him

Hendo won't be here (but if you disagree there's a thread about nailing him to a door at the Lane) -
This thread is a question about Verrips - can anyone help with the answer ?
I'd love to know if Verrips is a real option for the 11 or the 18 next season

Cheers BBBoo , if he was smashed , has he been put back together fully fit ?
If fit + no legal problems , is he actually better than Moore , the latter seeming out of his depth now ?

Literally, nobody knows. He started at Fylde, had literally nothing to do for the 15 minutes he had on the pitch, apart from fear for his life when that donkey Kean Bryan nailed him.

Surely he has to be better than Moore. If he's not then why did we sign him?

Maybe you could say he's one to develop, but even then, we know what Moore offers and it's not enough for this level. I'd take the punt and see how he reacted.

Completely agree. If there is no return for Hendo then Ramsdale would be my choice. He has done ever so well there - plus his previous history with us may help attract him back.

Because if not better now we think he could be given time?

Hence my second paragraph.

In my opinion I just think with what I've seen of Moore lately, I think Verrips is worth the risk of the unknown.

Wilder can pick who he wants having seen them in training throughout, but with what we see as fans I can't see why Moore gets so many sticking up for him when he makes obvious crap decisions and half arsed attempts at saves, outside of the League One promotion season obviously.

Good servant, but should have gone last season.

I know it looks like I've got a DronnieBlade esque vendetta but I really haven't, I feel a bit mean to be honest. Just think he's too predictably average. You're not going to get a Simon Moore blinder, has he even made a save in these two against Man U? I know he came out for the ball at someone's feet yesterday but that's about all I can remember, and he almost missed that.

Got to be worth a look at Dubravka at Newcastle.
Can't see Newcastle letting go of him ... I watched the Newcastle match with a geordie mate of mine and he reckons he's one of the few that will stay in the team even after the millions start flowing post takeover

He's quality, so underrated!

Absolute snip at £5Mish when they got him.

I mean it does a little to be fair. I don’t think it’s a big deal – if Verrips was clearly showing he’s better at the moment I'm sure he’d have moved ahead. Verrips strikes me as being a bit of a long-term punt. He’d have probably continued in the cup had he stayed injury-free.

Going into that game this week, I can totally understand it not being the best occasion to simply chuck him in and see what happens. I don’t confidently think the result would have been any better. In fact I think the added uncertainty from having an unfamiliar keeper in there might have made the scoreline even worse than it was.

Don’t get me wrong – we need to be sorting this out in the summer if we can. I don’t think a 2nd choice keeper in their 20s unlikely to improve is the way to go. I’d like us to have an obvious first choice, a decent reliable 2nd choice (probably in their 30s), and one for the future. I wanted us to go for Lonergan last season for that backup role. He’s available again now Liverpool are releasing him.

Part of me hoped Verrips might get a start on Sunday, then the other part of me remembered that Dean is still very much with us and can play.

Wilder needs to be given a fair wedge if we're going to compete the first half of next season, and then again in the Jan window if we're serious about staying in the prem any sort of time.
What we do need to hope for though, is finishing in the top 12, at the moment we're ok, but with 7 games to go, we need to pick up some points from somewhere, as the chasing pack are closing in, and if we can't get anymore points due to falling off the cliff, there's a very real possibility we could end up closer to the bottom than we thought when we hit 40points earlier in the season.
Henderson has been a huge factor in all this, having him back next year would be ideal, that would atleast give us another season to sort a keeper, but we need to do it properly, and there are still a lot of holes to plug all over if we aren't going to sink!!

Why do you believe that the Cherries would sell him ?

If they go down they'll be selling players, but given the percentages I saw the other day (something like 70% of their income is Premier League money) then they won't be the place to go for value.

We say this but we don't see them in training. He could be awful.

I personally think Verrips was a Prince Abdullah/ RIP Van Winkle signing, due to their insider knowledge of the Belgium League. We didn’t have a third choice keeper and he was available for free, due to a contractual loophole.

I assume that it turns out he’s not as good as Simon Moore and hence is still third choice?

Eastwood? He's part of the 25 isn't he?

What a job being a goalkeeper is eh? Even De Gea was being questioned the other day and fans saying he wasn't good enough. I was very impressed with him when we played Man U at the lane - looked a cut above to me.

I think Henderson has been excellent for us overall. The thing I'm most pleased about is that he's shown a lot of fans what we were missing in terms of being a huge improvement over the somewhat slow and immobile Jamal Blackman, who some fans were beginning to give cult status to, for no good reason imo.

As to Simon Moore, I honestly don't think the lad has done much wrong - but Henderson just seems so much more confident and assured and that's not to be underestimated in terms of how confident it makes the defenders in front of him feel either. I get the feeling that if Simon Moore had dropped some of the clangers that Henderson had dropped, the crowd would not be very forgiving of him at all. Henderson has endeared himself to the fans, whilst continually telling us that he really wants to play for somebody else. That's quite a skill in itself! If our fans think they can love him into staying, I think they are going to be disappointed! And who can blame him for thinking his long term prospects are better as Man Utd's number 1 than our number 1? History would suggest this is correct.

In terms of Verrips - I've absolutely no idea why we haven't seen more of him. I think initially it was due to contractual reasons, but I assume that's all resolved now? I'm not even sure why we signed him, if it wasn't to challenge for the number 1 spot? Maybe it was something to do with him being available for zero and having a good re-sale value? We don't seem to have signed him to play football at any rate - maybe he's a big character in the dressing room or summat? No one has any clue whether he's better, worse or the same as Moore. We just don't know. But the lack of opportunities he's had may indicate that he's further down the pecking order than Moore, who is a goalkeeper that we were already looking to improve on. So, I don't see much of a future for Micky Verrips tbh.

The other thing is we seem to be actively looking at goalkeepers elsewhere - especially in Turkey for some reason? If Verrips signing was influenced by Van Winkel, due to his Belgian connections, then we could well end up signing a goalkeeper from Turkey due to Bakki's connections. I'm not sure if this is the best way to run a football scouting system, but ultimately Wilder won't play them if he doesn't think they are good enough. And that is my best guess as to why we don't see much of Verrips.

Of course, this is potentially a dangerous game that Wilder is playing. If the big bosses are signing players but Wilder isn't playing them then they aren't increasing their value to the club. This is o.k. whilst the team is doing well, Wilder is untouchable, but if our fortunes were to change then Wilder could find himself in conflict with those above him over the non selection of certain players.

The strangest thing about the Verrips signing is that we went through so much grief to sign him yet he's just stuck not doing anything. If we thought he had potential to be good enough you would have thought he'd have been loaned out in January. The fact he hasn't makes me question who signed him.

Moore seems like a nice lad. A bit too nice tbh for a keeper. You need huge self-confidence and arrogance to succeed in that position. Simon seems too nice and too unsure. Bit like Long was, but I think Long is a better keeper if he could sort that out. He's certainly not a Premier League keeper. I'd be happy with him as third choice as he's fairly solid (and we have limited funds) and fits in with the group.
