We braved the rain and called down to watch the statues being unveiled and get some pictures and video for those who couldn't/didn't make it for whatever reason.

Had a look at the new home kit up close and personal and have to say, it seems very white! Liking the away kit though.

I think the club would have expected a bigger turnout, but it was never going to be the case with the weather.

In attendance were a handful of first teamers and the management, Estudiantes, directors, ex-blades, Dave Richards, Alan Irvine, some ex-wednesday and of course family of the two men honoured with statues.

Gary Sinclair was introducing proceedings and he was joined by Kevin McCabe and Andy Pack who both took a turn to welcome the attendees and give speeches regarding the statues and the men who were the focus of the evening.

Due to the weather and our position, it's probably more useful for the audio than the video, but here's how it went....

And we got Saddam Hussain and an extra from that film "AI" in a shirt negative to the one we are going to be wearing this coming season.

Bravo United Brafuckingo.

Hope the statues are not going to be hidden away in pools office or somewhere remotely similar. Should both be right outside loud and proud! The unveiling even got a viewing on one of the biased tv stations last night too!

Thanks very much Foxy, much appreciated

Thanks Foxy, for those of us who had to work but would have loved to be there, this is the next best thing. Cheers mate!

Just a word about the so far one person who has expressed his opinion in gross negative terms - Even for historical celebrations like this some people feel the need to criticise so needlessly (and use 'Blade' in their pseudonym!).
Very sad, but an 'opinion' nonetheless. My comment on his opinion - What a c*nt!

Hopefully he was very, very drunk and he'll take it down when he wakes up.

There is always one isn't there who wants to beat the club for everything? I suspect that more than a pint or two of beer was involved so I'll reserve judgement...

Actually, I've been to see them the statues at BDTBL is morning and they look terrific An appropriate way to honour two of the clubs greatest servants*...

(*Regardless of your individual opinion of their aesthetic appeal...)

all i'm saying is thank you foxy for taking time to video and post............
Joe Shaw a Blades legend................................................................... i'll stop now before i negative

Many thanks Foxy for your time, so that others not fortunate to be there can see them. Will have a closer look on Sunday

I'd like to add to the thanks. Didn't make the unveiling so it's good to see and hear what went off.

For what it's worth, I think the statues look terrific. The Shaw one has a cigarette card hero quality to it, while the Dooley one is how I remember the bloke. If there's any criticism whatsoever, I'd suggest the Dooley one belongs in the town centre, but since United paid - that's their perogative.

A slight aside on the Tom Finney statue... For those who don't know, it's a representation of one of the most famous sport photographs of the era. I know this as my dad is Prestonian.

The front of the South Stand looks a right mess; far too many signs, colours etc.

I agree, the whole stand is a mess looking at it from the car park. Worst part is I can't see any way to make it look better while those dirty great concrete tetris shapes in place, and since they look somewhat integral to the structural stability of the stand we're stuck with it til the stand is replaced.

The statues look very good though, will take a closer look at the open day.

I remember the south stand outside , being described as the best stand facia of any ground in the country in the 80s , and having been to most of them i had to agree , i still get goose pimples as i approach the ground should i see a Doctor ?
