Is it just me, or has the sculptor got Derek Dooley mixed up with Josef Stalin?

I remember the south stand outside , being described as the best stand facia of any ground in the country in the 80s , and having been to most of them i had to agree , i still get goose pimples as i approach the ground should i see a Doctor ?

Im just the same,I love the South stand and the way it is!!! UTB

Not at all. Simon Inglis wrote that in his book, Football Grounds of England and Wales (the old edition). When I was a kid in the '80s, before all the ugly signage was put up, there used be nothing but the blades logo, back-lit. It looked great at night.

I'm a bit geeky about football ground architecture. :)

I remember that book well, my Grandad had a copy of it, and i asked to borrow it when i was a kid as i used to like reading it and looking at all the photographs, and at 10 years of age i couldn't tell you a lot of things, but i could tell you all about Archibald Leitch's classical style of football stand and where to find the best examples of them.

I think there are only one or two Leitch stands knocking about nowadays which is sad, and i hope they survive as an very important piece of football history

Think I've still got a copy of it, and the 90's version up in the attic - is it worth owt???. Think there's also a tome dedicated to Archie nowadays too.

I've just bought the 1987 version on ebay for £2.99 with free P&P, so probably not.

All can already seeing it being a favourite and replacing the Who's Who of Sheffield United when i go for my 20 minute excursions doing toilet activity.

The original 1983 edition is probably worth a few quid, but not a 3 figure amount.

The Archibald Leitch book (Engineering Archie), also written by Inglis, is superb. All of Inglis's books about football are really good.

Itv was funny seeing people on Sunday taking photos of the new statues from the carpark. Most would have got a 'Peter's' pie promotional vehicle in the background carrying an unfeasibly large pie - big enough to feed Africa for a week. Any one got an example of such a pic? Hmmm.........I could have eaten that pie
