We play a team fighting for their lives with a team purchased in the last season for £135 million, include a player reportedly worth £90 million. We have our 2 of our most integral players out and are playing away and we still get the non stop moans. Does my fuckin' head in.

We were below par and didn't get a decent attempt on goal and let a team fighting relegation boss us.

You saying we should be happy with that?

Don't think they bossed us but take your point. They had more chances to score and we need to improve on the overall performance, which we probably will.

I think a lot of this is due to inflated expectations (partly due to a weird perception some seem to have had that we’d somehow been one of the only teams to have prepared properly in lockdown) and possibly forgetfulness (that we need to be on it at all times at this level to get a result).

That we weren’t all guns blazing from the off shouldn’t really have been much of a surprise. Missing 2 of our regular left-sided three, coupled with how we replaced them, did not help matters. We could have easily lost the game, despite the freak ‘chance’ we should have scored from – a day on, and I’m taking the fact we didn’t lose as being a positive ahead of the Newcastle game.

CW will not have been happy with that showing , though he diplomatically avoided saying so to the media. They will have a rocket up em by now.

No, but we shouldn't be angry about it either.

First game in three months. Only been training properly for what, two weeks? Three?

I've seen a fair few comments from both Blades and Villa fans which make it sound like we've just come back from an international break, not a lockdown.

And if they'd truly bossed us, they'd have scored. We had a couple of our own chances (and a fucking goal n'all).

Agree, yes it was shit, but it will not cost us our Premier league status, we have another season of the riches of the prem, and we didn't lose l, any point away is a good point

I think it was a very decent point away from home for us actually. Very satisfied with the draw as I thought this was a potential slip up for us due to the strange circumstances.

Thought all played well, with the exception of our midfield which was well off the pace and need to do better and quickly. We really missed Fleck and O'Connell for his attacking overlap runs. Hopefully they will both be back soon.

The only thing that I was disappointed with was Villa looked fitter than us.

I realise that down that left hand side Jack and Flecky missing caused an in-balance but the one area I thought we would have an advantage was our strength and fitness.

Anyway on to Sunday.

We got one amazing attempt on goal which went in!!
I think we should be satisfied with what was a 1 0 victory but for faulty equipment, faulty VAR and a faulty ref.

A point away from home is fine against a team that really needed to win. I was a bit disapointed with our energy levels. Thought we would start like a house on fire, but we really didnt. Baldock and stevens wernt half as good as normal. Mcburnie and sharp didnt work. So maybe The manager picked the wrong team

You often find the same responses for the first game of the season if we’ve not got the result we expect. People often go over the top after they’ve been waiting for a few months for competitive football. Throw that in with the game being televised and everything gets analysed to the nth degree.

Poor performance undoubtedly. Villa looked better for the break, some teams will benefit from the break in terms of player recuperation or just getting out of the losing habit.

Sometimes you don’t get off to the start you expect. Ultimately though it’s a point and clean sheet away from home in the Premier League with two of our most important players ruled out at short notice. We are punching above our weight and there will be off days.

I’m not too concerned and I’m sure we’ll see an improvement come Sunday.

Agree. I may end up with egg on my face but I think Everton could turn Liverpool over on Sunday.

Just hope Newcastle are slow out of the blocks at the weekend.

I don't know why there was this received wisdom that we'd start off better than everybody else. Yes, Wilder is a great coach and the squad is full of excellent professionals, but that's true of most clubs in the league. We're bound to struggle with the three month gap, same as everybody else.

I also think we'll struggle while ever Fleck and O'Connell are both out. That said, that team selection didn't fill me with confidence regardless, Sharp and McBurnie don't seem like a good fit, especially in front of a midfield that is more immobile than usual (because Fleck was missing) and with less energy from the defence (no O'Connell overlaps).

I FIND IT HARD TO HAVE A GO AT THE FRONT TWO .THEY HAD NO SERVICE .THE MIDFIELD WAS MISS FIRING AND WITH FLECK MISSING AND O'CONNELL NOTHING DOWN THE LEFT.

I certainly agree that it wasn't the ideal situation for the two forwards which is why I don't want to lay into them. That said, I don't think this pairing brings the best out in either of them.

Well to be honest I think the striking positions are our weak link no matter who we pick up front but with the lack of service at Villa I think any striker who ever it was would have struggled.

Best thing about it is, yes we played below par but we still didn't loose. I wouldn't mind if we lost then yes, moan all week for me. But villa could have won, but they dint and we came away with a point. Rather it this way round than the 3.0 in front and end up drawing 3.3 lol

Come on Tony, let people have their opinion, we all know the stats but regardless Unitedites now expect a performance!

For what it’s worth I though our play was dysfunctional and bang average, might have been because of 2 players having to drop out last minute? Or other players not quite knowing the system? or indeed players feeling aggrieved about the goal we scored😡 Let’s see what happens at Newcastle Sunday!

The point is fine, given the circumstances, the performance was awful. We were worse than a team who were second from bottom and would have been thrashed by a good team. I've said previously that it will take us longer to get up to speed given the way we play, but still we were too far below our best. The fact we created almost nothing and the fact we let them create quite a lot of chances are both worrying. But, it does us good to start early. Hopefully, we'll be that much more on our game against Newcastle, where we really need a win as I can't see us getting anything from Man U or Spurs.

Over the last 3/4 seasons there has been the odd game where I’d been disappointed by the performance. But after every single one of those games we’ve come back stronger... every single time!

Spot on Lawrence everyone should have an opinion and that was mine.
