They spent more money than us so they must be better.

This spending money is a bit of a myth, Yes, we have spent the money quoted (that bit isn't the myth) but the reasons why we spent it is often ignored. A fair chunk of the money was spent on making loan deals permanent (Mings, El Ghazi, hause for example). Then we had to spend money on replacing loan signings going back to their clubs (Abraham, Tuanzebe etc). On top of that we had a squad that was one season too early in terms of preparation for being promoted - the aim was always to go up with a mores solid team, and one that knew each other better, this season. Going up last season on the back of 10 on the bounce meant that we had many areas to fill in not too big a timeframe to fill it.

So its easy to say we've spent money without looking at context. If we stay up, we'll do the same this summer and really push on. If we don't then it'll be a serious set-back as we'll lose Grealish and maybe McGinn and have to start again. This is why tonight is massively huge for us.

So at last. Finally back in action with the trip to Aston Villa. The Blades involved in yet another first, kicking off the restart in the first ever premier league game played behind 'closed doors'. Hugely important game for us both. With ourselves capable of going 5th, or Villa jumping out of the bottom 3. Let's wait and see....

Anyway...

Any team news? :)

Everyone is fit...

5 in game substitutions allowed.

9 on the bench.

I suppose they'll be quite some rotation in the coming games.

Fitness levels are going to be key in these first few games. Something which possibly could go in our favour. Home and away have more or less become irrelevant now, not that we particularly better or worse either way. Form prior to the break will count for nothing, but should still allow for us to have confidence and belief. This really could go either way. So I'll sit on the fence at 1-1 lol.

(Safe journey all. :D )

I gave up believing in football karma after the Hull semi final. In the days leading up to the game, I started to behave really nicely, giving money to homeless people, buying people pints, even picking up litter. Didn't fucking work.

Saying that, I'm going to watch the game in a small bar where I've been watching the Blades since late 2018 and have never seen us lose - despite the fact that the game is on everywhere else on big screens.

If JOC and Fleck are out I'd snap your hand off for a draw. Otherwise any kind of win would be fantastic.

This is the toughest game of the season and anything could happen.

That's where you went wrong then.

Did you get the sack?

I predict a slow-paced first half with little incident, played at a training pace. Second half both teams will up the tempo a bit. Blades will get a late goal and win 1-0. I will have beans on toast for tea.

Struggling to understand why people are losing their heads at Lundstram and Berge possibly starting instead of Freeman. We play Newcastle, Man United and Arsenal in the next week and a half. Rotation is inevitable and I’d argue Freeman would be better starting against Newcastle on Sunday.

Can’t wait for the next 6-7 weeks of meltdowns every time we rotate the squad!

We haven't had any football for 3 months during one of our most enjoyable seasons ever
Can't really blame people for getting a bit hyper

Pretty disrespectful of the Premier League to spell Restos' name wrong.

And weird that they've put a 0 in front of all the single digit numbers.

And can't format a list. And written some in bold for no obvious reason. And...
I snever said it was legit...

Very surprised by the LCM selection, but looking forward to seeing how it works out.

Also, “contact injuries” sounds far less scary than “season-ending injuries”.

Also, Clarke on the bench rather than Zivkovic?

Jack O’Connell and John Fleck out after suffering contact injuries in training, Robinson is drafted into defence, whilst Sander Berge returns in midfield.

edit-beat me to it.

That must be the weakest bench in Premier League history? Rodwell and Clarke.

definitely take a point from this.
