There should be a simple message a week before the start, that if the FA receive Police footage of widespread public disorder or gatherings to watch the games, then a points deduction could be imposed.

I still think the big talking points on that first weekend will be house parties/big BBQ’s rather than hundreds/thousands stood outside a ground.

Reference your first paragraph. Do you really think the people who would gather and cause public disorder give a toss if the clubs lose points. Also that would be punishing the wrong people. Piece of 3x2 at the time of disturbance would be a better solution.

My thoughts on neutral venues is that the FA will use Wembley as much as possible. They are driven by money and the chance to reap in more faloose will be too big a temptation. Admit not sure how that would work, but sure they will juggle in order to reap any financial gain.

I suspect the venue will get a cut of (if not all of) the 'facilities fee' which I think is about a million quid a game, so... it's in the FAs interest to insist on the use of Wembley to get the fee without too much trouble.

While there are a small number of people who are ignoring the lockdown rules, even they must understand that the majority of people aren't and there's no point turning up at a ground to celebrate on your own.

Nobody will be at the ground during the match when they can watch it on a big TV at home. And nobody will be in the pubs near the ground to wander over afterwards.

The Cummings affair, and rush to lift lockdown, have made the general situation much more difficult to police, but if clubs are clear and consistent in telling people to stay away I don't think there will be much of a problem.

If Liverpool can win the title at Goodison I can see that being a little tasty. But suggesting the Blades v Man U is in any way a risky game is ridiculous. Even if a couple of hundred turned up, which I can't see happening, the policiing demands to move people on would be less than the most boring Premier League match before lockdown.

How come they have any/much of a say? Or is it just for whether they think there will be an issue in our games?

From the Premier League's perspective it makes sense to ask the police's opinion so that if anything goes wrong they can say they were acting on police advice. It's just a shame that the coppers in charge have a track record of incompetence.

I would imagine playing at home in a big match, without our home fans feels reaaly weird and can imagine it working opposite.

I'm not going to travel to Newcastle or Burnley or Villa to sit outside with some cans or bottles and watch it on my phone when I can watch it at home, cut out travel costs and have a drink. Plus, if I'm boozing at the ground I can't drive anyway.

I can for important games, as a population through this pandemic it's become clear that certain people just don't give a toss and think they're being oppressed by lockdown for the sake of a bad cold.

These are the people that will gather with crates of Stella outside football grounds, especially if something's up for grabs, and once they're there you can't shift them, like after Stoke. Imagine things go well and we go into say, the Chelsea game and a win guarantees Europa League. I think there's be hundreds if not thousands. The more wishy washy Boris's lockdown message becomes the more likely it gets too, looking out of my window the day after he announced unlimited exercise you'd have thought everyone had been vaccinated against it.

But how would people travel to Chelsea? Can't exactly take coaches full with the distancing stuff. Trains? I think coppers would be on it big time. Drive with a car full? Probably get pulled.

Personally I wouldn't go. But that's me. I could see the reasons for going though.

Oh yeah, I'd be thinking the same in their shoes. People waiting for the footy to come back, all that building up, meeting up with people. Even though I've had to address other priorities above football, I get it, I've missed it too. Can't disagree. It would be pretty easy to police. Couple of coppers on each corner telling anybody coming close to disappear or face arrest isn't difficult. There surely wouldn't be 25k+ turning up anywhere. Liverpool and Leeds fans aside. Which I could understand. But a firm warning of arrest and a fine would be a detterant.

Yes, you still dictate the pitch dimensions, how short the grass is and how well and where it is watered. And that's just me, a groundsman probably knows twice as many tricks to affect the playing surface.
