World class John Fleck

Currie was doing it from the age of 18, he wasn't a late starter, he spent 10 years at the highest level including more caps than Fleck.
He was very strong and couldn't be knocked off the ball, he was a decent header of the ball as well.
He never really had any spells when he wasn't playing well. Fleck has.
Obviously has vision and passing ability was unmatched.
But most of all he was an entertainer. That's what football's about. People went just to see him play.
Older fans will tell you that Hagan was better than Currie.
The midfielder/half back with a better record than any of them was Nudger Needham.

Fleck is very good but he's not in the class of those three.

Different era and different types of player though. Would Currie thrive in the hustle and bustle of modern day football, maybe, we'll never know.

It would probably be easier comparing Fleck to someone like Willie Carlin, who was sold to Derby County and was immediately an important part of their title winning side.

Fair enough. As coaxing star says different era as well. Agree with you that it should be about entertainers, players to get you off your seat

Derby's promotion side, I think he'd left before they won the league.
 
Currie was sublime. Fleck is totally different, but he‘s still a bloody good player. From the video montage he looks like he could play for anyone, and deserves to be playing in Europe next season as a Sheffield United player.

On a free from Coventry, you say? Not good enough for Scotland, you say?

Well said ! His passing is sublime. So many of his passes have a perfect shape, accuracy, and pace, which gives the receiver the option to comfortably control the ball as he wishes, or let it run into space.
 
No way. Scotland and Coventry fans say he’s crap and Wednesday fans say he wouldn’t get in their side that is 15th in the Championship. And we all know that those lot know their football.

Seriously, best Blades midfielder in my time and maybe best player. My time started with Martin Kuhl and Mark Dempsey in our midfield.

TC could dig, dirty sod at times, but a different era with a very different interpretation of the rules played on some very bad pitches. Peak TC was a £80m player in today's market. Fleck is quality nevertheless.

Don't apologise. There will never ever be enough threads on how brilliant Flecky has been this season. We've got 11 or 12 contenders for playerof the season but for me it has to go to JF.
 
I'm with the pro-Currie massive on this point. Generally I think comparisons are harmless if not pointless, but the enthusiasm for Fleck, of which I share, is based on the player proving he's been good enough as we rose from Div. 1 to the Prem. Currie played at the top level for far longer, and his quality, although sometimes a bit dimmed, was always clear if not a cut above other players. Fleck's consistency has improved, even though there have been patches where I thought he'd lost his way. Fortunately what we've seen this season is a player of quality and class, but it's never once crossed my mind to compare Fleck with any other player, let alone Currie. The reason Currie lost his way at international level was due to a change in management, not because he had lost any of his undoubted panache.

As SouthEssexBlade has said, today Currie would be worth upwards of £80 million, as for Fleck, well he needs a couple of seasons at this level to see if he's really as good as we all hope he'll become. In my view the best thing for Fleck is to work conscientiously and that way his quality should out. Fleck certainly has it within him to produce a level of football that we'll all be proud of

I'd love to see one of Steven's as well his skills and defence and calmness on the ball is brilliant. Always knew he was a really good player but cant believe how season after season he seems to improve so much and be the surprise package every season. He has sent loads of players for a early bath this season he is brilliant and slowly becoming one of my favourite players and thats hard to do in this squad where they are all legends.
 
He's not Currie, but he is still pretty damned good. I bought this tee shirt for the next time I go to our office in Glasgow. It's always good to spark a bit of banter with the Celtic and Rangers fans !

It's mad thatwe signed him from a mid-table League 1 side. Good feet and passing technique but that video also highlighted his vision to see the pass in the first place. What a fantastic signing.

One thing I also noticed in that video is how useful Mousset can be as a linking player, or to offer an outlet. It would be good if he comes back into a bit of form. Him and Mcburnie are still in their early 20s and could both yet prove to be consistent goal scorers at this level
 
Fleck's added goals this season which he's struggled with in previous years. That pass for the Mousset GOAL at Man City away wooooooooow
 
It's not inconceivable that John Fleck will achieve more with United than Currie ever did. In fact, he could do that this season, if it ever resumes.
