Thanks, unfortunately still have no recollection.
My personal opinion G Best was the best attacking player I've seen, pity other distraction got in the way.
Couple of pictures of R Morgan playing for Spurs, both with a little humour in them, hopefully put a smile on a few faces.
One with the ladies on, could almost run a caption competition with. In the wall one believe RM is on the right.
Picture I stupidly forgot to add in previous post. Morgan on right in wall picture.Rodger Morgan Spurs V Man Utd at WHL.jpgRodger Morgan Spurs V Leeds.jpg

As Tony says, G. Cunningham, he and Scarborough have similar styles but both equally as pleasing.
'Hawkeye' got to be your middle name ,well spotted. Kings Arms and Higsons solved but Norfolk Vaults it's who to believe.
My maternal grandma worked in the Norfolk Market Hall from my first memories mid 40's, and before, till it closed think '59 when I was 17. Listening to her and others my impression was and always has been it was under the market hall. George Cunningham seems to confirm this but Douglas Lamb puts it ln Dixon Lane between the Rock Tavern and Norfolk Arms but doesn't give what number Dixon Lane. He gives the numbers for the other two plus one non of us will have been in, 'Board' at no. 6 DL opened in 1833, no closing date. Market Hall opened 1851, could the licence for the 'Board' have been transferred to new premises under NMH, and renaming Norfolk(In the NMH) and Vaults(vault being an arched structure, which in this case would be holding up the floor of NMH and usable for commercial use.
Convinced myself and my Gran. plus G Cunningham V Douglas Lamb equals 2 V 1 so that's it under't market hall. I don't know what year this is but concurs with Lamb ref. Rock and Norfolk's street numbers, but shows no pub between the two as he shows in his book APOEC, pointing m'i thinks to NV being under NMH.View attachment 78223

Fascinating stuff. NMH was built on the site of the Tontine Inn. No photos of this seem to exist, understandable given how long ago this was. Did find this though

.
So did Cole Bros. late 40's, used to frighten me to death as a 5/6yer old. Then there was the waiting whilst the receipt and change came back, time better served in Wilson Gumpert's in;t square. View attachment 78281
Wilson Gumpert were owned by Redgates as I recall. I was in the same class at school with the Redgates owner's son.

RIP.

"Hertz Van Rental (Holland) for his driving force!" 🤣 🤣 🤣

That's interesting. When I was trying to recall about S and E, I couldn't quite remember whether those vacuum tubes were there are not. Like you say ST, I also remember them at Banners.
But weren't they also in other dept stores in town???
I remember them in Clarks Shoe shop I think on Fargate.

Indeed Bert has always had a soft spot for Spurs, going back to his youth and the days of Jimmy Greaves.
Talking of whom, this was the game he scored his 37th league goal in the season. Still a Tottenham record.

John White, Spurs inside right, was later tragically killed by lightning on a golf course, aged just 27.

I was just checking to see whether the oinkers prevailed over Leyton Orient, sadly they did, 3-1, in Leyton Orient's only season in the top league. That research also showed the final score at White Hart Lane on Soccerbase as 4-2, but without naming our scorers.

I am of course choosing to accept Bert's handwritten listing of the score over a computer's version any day of the week :)

Jones and Hartle apparently but if Bert says it was 4-0 then the records must be wrong. 😁

Only one man on here can put us right for definite on the Spurs game. Pigs did win 3 - 1 on 4/5/63. Attendance 19696. Not bad for a team who'd been in the top 6 5 seasons on the trot.

Now that was a player....one of the greats in a great team

'Had John lived, he could have been one of the greatest footballers of all time' Jimmy Greaves
When John White was killed by a bolt of lightning in 1964, the football world was rocked by the tragedy. White was just 27 years of age.
Nicknamed the 'Ghost' for the way that he could drift into space undetected, White played inside-forward for the great double-winning Tottenham Hotspur side of the early sixties. British football was entering a golden period and Bill Nicholson's free-flowing Spurs side was right at the forefront. White himself was on the cusp of greatness. Even alongside giants of the game like Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower, he stood out as a playmaker with incredible vision and touch.
White lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup for Spurs (the first European trophy won by any British side) and gained 22 caps for Scotland, but he was also a family man. Six months before he died, his beloved wife Sandra, gave birth to their second child, a son called Rob.
Rob White never knew his father. The man who was known by hundreds of thousands of football fans across the country, was a complete stranger to him. The Ghost of White Hart Lane is the result of interviews with his father's teammates, followers, and family members. Within these pages Rob White and Julie Welch have built up a portrait, not only of a brilliant and gifted young man, but also of a lost era.

My cousin worked there at the time. I think there was more than one fell over before it was decided to raise the handrail.

A beautiful staircase ruined all in the name of Health and Safety.
Oh yeah, don't let a few deaths spoil 'a beautiful staircase' FFS.
