But he will be on more money than what he was on at Forest if they decide to take a cut he would be no worse off and it is a deferral so he will get the money in 6 months time
Nearly everybody in the country is suffering financially so why shouldnt the players

Many (like those at virgin) have been given the choice of cuts, or no job. In the situation you can see why people would.

Players aren't being furloughed, though. They have Wattbikes (and most likely other equipment) at home and are expected to complete their workouts which are tailored to each player and are being monitored remotely by the club. Anyone not doing their bit can expect to be fined.

I didn't say the players were being Furloughed.
I would imagine its in the players own hands to how fit they keep themselves during this period and no doubt they may be in breach of something if they themselves don't keep to a degree of fitness.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Well done to the players for doing this. Having contributed a lot to the community already through individual initiatives and the Premier League players' initiative, this is something which is purely focused on helping the club see this through. I completely understand the players wanting a bit more certainty over matters like when play will be re-starting and what the league looks like next year before agreeing to anything, but the reality is that the support was probably needed sooner than they could get that clarity. In the meantime, agreeing to this relatively small but meaningful (Wilder's deferral alone saves the club £1.7 million) is the right step.

It's your inference that even the players on the smallest financial contracts will somehow now struggle to pay the bills. You named Osborn. How much does he earn? There a massive difference between an agreed delayed salary payment and a temporary pay cut.

Everyone else who is unable to work due to the virus is paid 80% of their wage on the government scheme
so logic suggest that all footballers should have an automatic 20% pay cut like the rest of the working population who are unable to perform their duties.

I'm not going to have a go at the players because they didn't have to do anything, although the negative media from not doing anything means they've effectively got no choice.

But like you say, a lot of the country are taking larger pay cuts not deferrals, so a 10% pay deferral doesn't really deserve much, if any praise.

Financial Fair Play question relevant for certain clubs that could fall foul of it for their wage bill for this season: does deferring wages to next season mean for FFP purposes they get pushed out of this season? Or would FFP count them in this season and within the 3 year period they were supposed to be paid regardless of when the money is actually paid?

Deferral means that they don't get paid all of the money in their next pay packet, but they will get it all eventually. So if someone was going to get paid £100,000 this month they might get £90,000, and will be paid the remaining £10,000 at a later date. It's not a pay cut.

A welcome move by all concerned at Senior Mgt, coaching and playing level and will put to bed some of the shit stirring press articles. The Club is facing an estimated shortfall in revenue of around £60 million over the next 3 months. Hopefully some of that will be mitigated by the season being completed behind closed doors at some stage.

This is about protecting the Club's financial stability until football can get back to normal which is some time away. The deferring of bonus payments will be of particular assistance if the rumoured £10 million players pot for staying up is accurate.
