Is that first paragraph based on inside knowledge of the plan or a cynical opinion
No insider info, and it certainly wasn't meant to be cynical, more practical.

Chances are everyone is getting this one way or another. No point tanking the economy any more than you have to if* there is spare capacity that would allow us to get through this quicker.

*That's a huge caveat right there.

As for the May behind closed doors scenario; I'd be stunned if that happens. Closed door games by July/August would be a push I feel but hope they can sort something, somehow before.

Well Bundesliga clubs are already back in training, so I can’t see why the Premier League will be that far behind.

The survival rate once you get to intensive care is not much better than 50%, so if the government is planning to use the extra 10,000 ICU beds they've built (across the country) later in the year then they are planning for many 1000's more deaths than they are currently telling us about.

It would be the ultimate scandal if that is the undeclared plan, when countries like Germany have shown that it can be managed so much more effectively

Germany are sadly a long way ahead of us and have been in resources, strategy and containment. That will be mirrored in everything including return to normality and non essentials like Sports.

We are way behind Germany in terms of tests and tracing and were from the start . It is not even comparable.

The UK has carried out fewer than 350,000 tests to 1.3 million in Germany About 3,600 people have died so far in Germany. Nearly 13,000 have died in the UK.

Huge differences and the fact that Germany's outbreak started well before ours and even Italy's means you can take the May possible start for Football over there and add on at least 2-3 months I would think even behind closed doors.

No, but we've committed to spending that money and an increased wage bill.
This is the big one for me, that could easily be £20m which isn't coming from anywhere but Sky money.

Anyone who thinks we,re gonna be allowed in grounds this side o Christmas needs to get head out o cornflakes

But we've also got to make payments for Norwood, Egan and maybe one or two others.

We'll still be looking at paying out upwards of £10m in the summer for transfer fee installments, which I don't know cash flow wise if we'll be able to make those payments as things stand.

Transfers usually include up front payments and payments for milestones reached by the player. I find the thought that giving a player a five year contract and only paying the fee over five years quite odd as well as economically prohibitive.

I can’t see why we won’t be back in training next month, simply because UEFA will want the league seasons finished within a similar time frame. There is no way they will postpone the Euros again or risk the Champions League missing a season.

Once the lock down is starting to be relaxed, football will follow shortly behind. Money will dictate it.

as i always say this is a great idea & looking forward to more football & nothing i would want more. i dont want to be the person that pissing on your bonfire but until the answers of these 3 questions are yes. then i doubt sport can continue. because imagine the worst happens & we have a petr cech or a aaron ramsey happen on that pitch

are there spare ambulances
are there spare medics
are there spare places in hospital if worst happens

because otherwise this would be a PR disaster. you know the headlines football taking valuable resources away from the fight v coronavirus. footballers denying sick people beds
Broken bones......just treat them as the thoroughbreds they’re mea
what like Italy & spain who are overloaded. also why theyve had to convert excel Arena. we have been told to stay at home to not get to that situation

ambulances - you could if government hadnt all ready potentially get 1st refusal & even then then taking it would be a PR Disaster as i stated before because taking ambulances that NHS Could use. would go down as well as coughing in a lift. & you could be in ambulance with a guy with a broken leg. but what happens if hospital go sorry we are ridiculously busy & cant take him

if the club medical staff are sufficient then explain why the St John ambulance medics have been present at every game up & down the country week in week out for decades if they weren't needed. if in these games at Wembley we get a cech muamba & ramsey then what. also its risky going to hospital you might go in with concussion & come out with coronavirus

i dont like this any more than you but i am not defending this or critical of it, i would love wake up & say football returns tomorrow. i am just being realistic & there is no point getting our hopes up for something that isnt possible until the NHS are coping. that just the horrible truth
if they get a broken leg couldn’t you just put them down? We want football now, need to think outside the box😉

Smart move by Sky would be to show the lot on standard subscription. They'd get a huge boost in numbers while keeping current punters happy and get larger than normal audiences for most of the games. UHD for the "game(s) of the day).

If they resume games but behind closed doors then every single game will be available via some sort of platform for each club in the EPL and Championship. Not 100% about Leagues 1 and 2.

Sky and BT both have the ability to show games via Freeview and The Championship have iFollow. I'm sure iFollow could be tweaked to include L1 and L2 as well, if it isn't already.

Sky have both frozen payments for both domestic and commercial customers so there wouldn't be any issues there re people getting the games for free and others paying.

The words coming out from the EPL and EFL are that training will resume in full mid May with games resuming 2nd week in June with a season finish date of towards the end of July.

In the absence of the whole thing going pear shaped in the next 2 weeks this is how I see it (based on a bit of logic and a bit of a rumour from an ITK source).

Each teams' players get holed up with coaching team in a hotel in late April
Matches start mid may (potentially at neutral grounds) behind closed doors
2 to 3 games a day played with the same TV crews covering them who are also isolated for the duration in hotels near the ground(s)
Whole season over within 30-40 days

Simplifies the logistics and allows the teams to get fit and play every 3 or 4 days, Keeps a proportion of the population under control for another 3 or 4 weeks, whilst we get used to the new world order and permanent social distancing.

I've no idea at all what 20/21 might look like - totally mental

Apart from the timeline that's pretty much spot on. Once games resume they wont be at normal grounds but at certain venues with the ability to isolate teams/staff/TV crews etc with 3 or 4 games a day all televised.

St Georges Park is one venue being talked about as fits the bill perfectly if fans aren't involved.

The Nightingale hospitals haven`t been created to handle patients now, they have been created to handle the significant uptick in patients when we start easing restrictions - that's the aim of them to create capacity that will allow some of the restrictions to be lifted.

However - you can bet your bottom dollar that crowds gathering of 30k+ are not likely to be high on the "things we should allow first" list.

None of us are getting inside a ground to watch a match for a long time IMO...

I can't see it this calendar year IIBH.

Germany aren't classing patients with underlying health issues as coronavirus deaths though. Bearing in mind this could be as high as 70% I'm really not believing their confirmed death count.

Now that is not to take away from their response to the pandemic which has been another example of good old German efficiency that has put most other countries in the world to shame.

League 1 and 2 already have iFollow so that’s no issue.

I can’t see Sky and BT giving away football for free, they’ve already lost millions by pausing subscriptions. They might jump on the NHS bandwagon and give them free sports, but it won’t go any further than that in my opinion. They are a business after all, they’ll be feeling the pinch like all businesses.

I think you'd be surprised. Sky particularly give away free games via their Sky Sports Mix channel on freeview and if games are behind closed there's no chance pubs will be open so there won't be any other way to do it.

It's a great "try before you buy" as well for when things return to normal.

Some will try and convince themselves otherwise but let’s be honest

There will be no crowds allowed at any sporting event until 14 days after vaccinations have been given

If that’s later this year or next year or even 2022 is up to no one other than the scientists

The earliest could be October with the longest suggestion early 2022

Life has changed

Like it or not, what you say is most likely correct

I get this point of view, but I just think life can't go on like this for a further year or more.

It's not just sporting events where mass gatherings take place, it's pubs, clubs, weddings, funerals etc. What about coming into close contact with people on planes? The government can't afford to keep paying the wages of workers related to these industries for much longer.

Unless you accept hundreds of thousands of dead and hospitals under huge pressure with many dead staff it is going to.

It will eventually reach that point, how are we going to pay for the NHS with millions unemployed? We can't continue to sit at home being paid by the government for another year or more.

Debt. Then when life is back to near normal cuts. Life has changed dramatically and it seems like some people are still not quite getting that.

The alternative is the test, contract trace and isolate plan that South Korea have already implemented.

The task is to keep Re below 1, so if as soon as people feel ill, they are tested and isolated if they test positive, all those they have been within 6 feet of in the previous 4 days are traced and tested (unless they are recorded as already having it) and anyone who tests positive is isolated and again their contacts are traced and tested.

It needs a small army to manage it but it's cheaper than locking down the entire economy., the technology exist to make it work, it just needs to be competently deployed in then next few weeks.

If a location, a city or part of a city has an outbreak it gets locked down for 2 weeks.

That is a plan that allows a country to get back up and running but it still leaves going to football as a risky activity that many might decide to avoid altogether for now.

Last season the clubs in the Premier League who weren't involved in Europe made around £100m - £120m from TV money.

We've already spent £70m+ on the transfers of Berge, McBurnie, Mousset, Robinson, Osborn and Freeman.

The pile must be diminishing pretty fast.

whilst we have committed to spending the money we will only have paid a proportion (~ 50% dependent on terms) up front and are in a much better position than most as we have run a very tight ship throughout wilders period in charge.
The recently received £20 million should see us through for the next four months wages etc.

A few things to consider in Germany the average age range where the virus had struck is 49
Here as in Italy and Spain it is 63/4
So the mortality rate in Germany is lower due to the age range
So with that in mind Germany will be taking very steady steps forward and like here won’t be having any mass gatherings such as footy until well into next year
