Andrew Surman

I've not really seen much of Surman, but sound like a decent signing. My only problem is if he's left sided midfielder does this mean we're still gonna have Monty and Quinn at centre midfield next season, cos in my opinion neither really is imposing enough in that area. I was hoping Quinn would go back out on the left tbh where he offers a bit more.
As for Tonge coming back, can't we just loan him for the three decent games he has each season ;)

Surman unsure about Saints future

Linky to BBC

Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman has said he is uncertain what the future holds for him, following interest from Sheffield United.

Kevin Blackwell's side are believed to have made an undisclosed bid for the 22-year-old but Surman said it has not gone any further yet.

He told BBC Radio Solent: "I haven't thought about it too much until it actually moves forward.

"Until the takeover at Saints goes through, then we're in a bit of limbo."

Pinnacle Group are currently undertaking due diligence at the St Mary's Stadium, having been granted a 21-day period as exclusive bidders.

"At this stage I haven't thought any further than going back to Southampton for pre-season on 22 June," Surnam added.

"When a serious bid comes in then that's when you have to review your situation, but we're not at that stage yet."

The former England Under-21 international was born in Johannesburg but raised in Southampton.

He made 48 appearances for Saints during their Championship relegation campaign in 2008-2009, scoring seven goals.

I really hope we get Surman in.

Then, we can hopefully sell Quinn to Boro if the reported interest is true, and bring in a better central midfielder with that money.

As the first guy on the teamsheet I can't really see us selling Quinn, so we just have to hope that he stays on his game a little longer this year.

Would love to see Surman come in, leftsided players are important and he may well be a long term replacement for Naysmith. However i think he'd be a great asset on the left of middle. I also agree about moving Squinny on if we get a decent bid

Or just any sort of bid.

Well, possibly. I do think theres a player in there somewhere, so i wouldn't give him away personally. I wouldn't have thought he's on big wages as well. If we bring others in i think he might benefit from not being the first name on the team sheet. Thats not to say that over the last 4 or 5 months of the season he has been anything other than awful, but I did rate him when he first came onto the scene.

The Daily Mail and others are reporting:

Wolves poised to beat Sheffield United to Saint Surman

Wolves are poised to beat Sheffield United to the signing of Andrew Surman from Southampton.

United opened the bidding with a £1m offer but Wolves are in pole position for the 22-year-old midfielder after their promotion to the Premiership.

Have to say that i'm really gutted about this one. The lad clearly wants prem football and you can't really blame him as he has showed loyalty to the saints through some pretty dire times.

This would have been the signing which really got me fired up for the season and at such a low price wolves have got an absolute steal.

Never mind, plenty of time yet.

I'd be delighted if we got him. Young, and excellent technically.

Saw him a few times during his time on the south coast, and was by far and away their best player at the time.

Much more creative, which, if it happens, would mean that Blackwell will have actually done something decent in the transfer market!

Surman, Britton and Simmonsen in the same transfer window. Could it be true?

with montgomery slap in the middle of it.....

Yep and France and Stewart taking up the overlapping flanks, what more could we ask for? :)

Seriously, If these deals came off and with a little luck sorting our defence out, we just might have a decent season. Or am I getting a little ahead of myself?

We are Sheffield United.

Do not get your hopes up.

I really hope we do get him. He's always impressed me. Very good player. Good crossing and free kick skills too

Will be a top player for us at this level and will certainly make the midfield much more of a threatening prosect alongside Britton

fingers crossed this comes off, Surman and Mulgrew, (I know the Mulgrew deal isn't so likely now) bombing down the left would be awesome.

Where on earth are we going to get £1.2 million from?

Good player, but has everyone forgot about how he snubbed us. He was too good for the Blades, then he has failed to impress in the Premiership and now suddenly the prospect of playing at Bramall Lane is all rosy.
