Agreed, Premier League club will also struggle, but if matches are played behind closed doors and the TV money is paid in full, then all clubs will be ok, albeit with a drop in revenue.

I can see the next transfer market being a buyers market with some relative bargains out there.

ambulances - you could if government hadnt all ready potentially get 1st refusal & even then then taking it would be a PR Disaster as i stated before because taking ambulances that NHS Could use. would go down as well as coughing in a lift. & you could be in ambulance with a guy with a broken leg. but what happens if hospital go sorry we are ridiculously busy & cant take him

if the club medical staff are sufficient then explain why the St John ambulance medics have been present at every game up & down the country week in week out for decades if they weren't needed. if in these games at Wembley we get a cech muamba & ramsey then what. also its risky going to hospital you might go in with concussion & come out with coronavirus

i dont like this any more than you but i am not defending this or critical of it, i would love wake up & say football returns tomorrow. i am just being realistic & there is no point getting our hopes up for something that isnt possible until the NHS are coping. that just the horrible truth

Players wages are an easy target, whilst I agree the wages are obscene it’s only because they are working class lads getting the money that draws criticism. (See also tv presenters) Stop the high wages for players and the money will still be in the game, it’ll just go to owners or hedge funds that will buy into clubs.

The hospitals aren’t full to the brim, of course there are spare beds! Anyway, Covid 19 patients end up in intensive care, it’s highly unlikely a footballer will suffer an injury requiring that kind of treatment and therefore risk people lives.

Are there a shortage of Ambulances now? I’ve not heard anything to suggest this is an issue and that the NHS are struggling to purchase more? I walked past my local Ambulance station the other day and there were at least 3 or 4 parked up, it didn’t give the impression they were struggling, but maybe I saw them on a rare quiet moment, who knows?

St. John Ambulance are there because there are thousands of people watching the match and one of them might require medical assistance. This obviously wouldn’t be a problem with matches being behind closed doors.

yes its highly unlikely any player that goes on to the pitch will get injured. but they do & its not like as they can be predicted bar keane on haaland. in F1 in 2014 no driver had died on a race weekend for 20 years. so you wouldve said that was highly unlikely to happen but it did. now we are nowhere near on that scale we talking about ACL & Broken legs. but while ever there is a chance of major injury. its an outcome you have to consider. cant just play & hope for the best

maybe the St johns are there for crowds but you also have a group that are ready with the stretcher every time the physio is brought on to the pitch. which they are knackered after Norwich at the bramall lane

That would be really harsh. Why should anyone lose there points for something out of their control? There are plenty of us who have had zero money for weeks now and might need every penny they can get if this carries on much longer

Been speaking to a longstanding (not a bullshitter) client today who is very good mates with a board member of a premier league club. He told me they are looking at second week in May to start playing games. Sky are putting major pressure on clubs. Also there are huge foreign TV revenues which will could be lost otherwise.

Never claimed to be ITK but the client is trustworthy and I have been out socially with him & the football executive so can verify his is mates with the source.

This would obviously be subject to many factors which the Premier League can't control but shows how desperate they are to resume.

I also think that games will resume in May. We had that little poll on here a few weeks ago didn't we? And I responded "May" for the football to resume. I think it will be behind closed doors though - and that's o.k. for me. Not ideal, but o.k.

I think if they can get the players tested, to see if they've got it, or had it, then there would be no good reason not to let 22 blokes come together to kick a pig's bladder into an onion sack in an empty stadium.

I've seen the other comment about Italy and virus timelines - I think that has no bearing on anything at all. Totally different situation in terms of the coronavirus and how they have handled it there. Totally different situation in terms of football TV money as well.

Sky and BT will love behind closed door games as it will drive up the subscription numbers. Also talk about season ticket holders getting refunds.

I don't want a refund for the home games that can't be played. I'd rather the club keep that money - they can consider it a "tip" if they like, because I've had more than my moneys-worth out of them this season. It's been fantastic value beyond all expectation!

It will be interesting to see what stage social distancing is at by the time the football comes back around. I imagine the pubs will not be allowed to show the games if they are behind closed doors. Pretty sure I wouldn't want to watch us in a cup final on my own (should we get there).

Social distancing will still be in effect until June at the earliest. Football will probably not happen until then as players won’t be able to social distance from each other. Factor in some ‘pre season’ time prior to matches you’re probably looking at beginning of July for the behind closed doors games...new season pushed into Sept start? Christ knows when we’ll all be at the lane next.

Sky/TV payments. Believe Sky have already paid for the full season, unlike TV companies in other countries

As much as we like to see it back, surely it's not on the government list of essential jobs and doesn't exactly conform to the requirement of social distancing, whether crowds are there or not.

Until these restrictions are lifted i for one cannot see how it could be allowed to resume. There is no sign of this letting down before then so ill just see this as pure speculation till i hear otherwise.

For the sake of my sanity i hope it is back for then.

Yes but they don't have to be renewed on the same terms

Unless the players are locked away from family or their whole families isolate completely the risks of one player catching even a mild version and shutting it down just be pretty high

The game shouldn't restart too soon but equally if it doesn't start within the next few months you have to wonder what football will look like in the coming years.

Whilst as fans we sometimes don't like it being called a business, that's exactly what it is, and many people are employed in it not just wealthy players, agents etc.

Playing behind closed doors has to be a serious consideration because we simply don't know how long it will be before it's remotely feasible to have full grounds again.

One thing I'm unequivocal on though, the priority has to be to finish the current season before starting a new one.

If we were a quarter in then it would be a completely different kettle of fish, but we simply can't punish achievers and reward strugglers in a game where the financial impact is so big.

Obviously we're biased and our season has been fantastic, but still not favourites for Europe or the FA Cup.

Teams like Leeds, Coventry, Rovrum, Barrow etc just can't be told unlucky son, whilst your West Ham, Villa, Norwich etc get a free pass.

but the novelty will soon wear off of watching atmosphere less games and the TV ratings will tumble.
