A London- based Blade of many years standing came up for this one. His match day bought ticket for a seat in the south stand was ( I think) £32.00, but def started with a 3. That was him, done.

I feel I should probably return my season ticket for admitting this, but I didn't watch, listen to or even follow the second leg against Yeovil. I went to a county cricket game instead and just had a quick check of the score at full-time. I'd spent the last few months knowing that we were utter rubbish so didn't even give us a prayer against Yeovil, even with a 1 goal advantage... I think that Portsmouth game mentioned above was my "done with this season" moment. We got absolutely annihilated by a team that was already relegated and had Johnny Ertl playing like Andrea Pirlo in midfield against us.

Which county game did you go to see that day ?

Didn't Billy Clarke do quite well on loan? We had him and Matt Phillips didn't we?

I couldn't believe we lost out on Clarke to Crawley

He looked promising from what I remember but never went on to do much after us. Phillips was great while we had him and obviously too good to come to us.

Having Barry Robson involved in that team not only didn’t help matters, it made them considerably worse. He was one of the worst of a bad bunch.

I disagree about him making the team worse but as I said he was already on the decline and I was pointing out that he still had some glimpses of quality, but it just wasn't enough to overly benefit the team.

He was. He came on as sub. in the 71st minute. Also coming on as sub. in the 75th minute was George Baldock for...Samir Carruthers. For a spell, MKD had both Alli and Benik Afobe in their team.

That's right. Wilson was - mercifully - sacked after the MKD debacle. Saw a brief clip of the 1993 semi final yesterday and Wilson was in the pigs team. Chris Morgan was put (nominally) in charge for the last nine games of that season when the 'new manager bounce' produced ten more points. But good times were ahead! For the start of the 2013-14 season we had David Weir 'in charge'...

Was that the run of doom at home interspersed with ok games away leading up to Wilson’s sacking? I’m pretty sure that would have been around the time we got thrashed something like 4-0 at Stevenage too (not one of the ok games). I know I was furious with Robson at one game in particular – it’s either that or Walsall away.

We won 4 'on the trot' in early February, including a win at Bournemouth (who would finish the season in second place - we also beat them 5-3 at the Lane on Sept. 1)

I remember the Crawley one as it was one of those games where season ticket holders could bring a mate for free. Brought a couple of non-United supporting mates to their first ever Blades game......that was fun.

Could well have been Danny Wilson’s last game on charge that as I recall.

I'm sure Morgs wasn't in charge for the last 9 matches? Danny Wilson was sacked after the Crawley defeat and then Morgs took the last 5 league matches starting with Swindon plus the P/O Semis against Yeovil.

I not only do I remember the Carlisle game, but it burns brightly in my memory, as I have rarely been as angry after a Blades game. There was the Robson corner, a terrible Tony McMahon foul for no reason, and worst of all, Forte and Ironside gave one of the most inept displays I've ever seen from a front 2, missing some gilt edged chances and failing to score against a team that had conceded about 2 goals a game up to that point.

I made a point of hanging around in the South Stand after the game and letting Forte know what I thought of his display as the players went down the tunnel.

Of course, he was if anything even worse against Crawley, missing more presentable chances, and Wilson was fired when we lost.

I always maintain that Forte's performances in those games cost Wilson his job. I say this because the only reason McCabe was able to give for firing Wilson in the press conference introducing Morgan as caretaker was that we hadn't been winning at home. I think had we won one of those games he wouldn't have done it. (there were of course two other reasons Wilson was fired, namely (a) the Pigs did it at a similar time the season before and McCabe, clutching at straws, thought it would have a galvanising effect and (b) McCabe had no idea what he was doing).

Of course, Forte was only at the club as he and the equally useless Poleon were all Wilson could dredge up at short notice after McCabe sold Blackman about 12 hours before the transfer window closed that January.

Correct. At the time we were 6 points off second with 2 games in hand too.

According to this, Morgan 'took charge' from 10/4/13 to 10/6/13 when Weir 'took charge'.

Incredibly Poleon is still playing, albeit at Dover Athletic. I remember that Forte - during this disastrous period for the club - was being brought on as sub. for the start of the second half in some home game. During half-time, while the opposition had all their subs. out on the pitch practicing crosses for the sub. goalie etc., Forte spent the whole time leaning on the dug-out, chatting with his mates at the front of the South Stand.

At the time I thought there was something 'funny' about some of the goings on against Carlisle. I'm sure I was wrong.

Me too. That game was absolutely horrific. Felt like they would score every attack in the first half. Up there in my "worst United games ever witnessed" list...
