Blades players who were utterly shit with no redeeming qualities whatsoever (hard mode- nobody from the last decade)

Leon Britton he was gash for us but half decent before he came for Swansea and again after he went back. I thought he was a good signing, he was shit.

A few for the old uns don’t think been mentioned Peter Dornan and his mate Steve McKee ,Les fuckin Tibbett who cost £10000 a lot of money back in the day. Come in number 7 Jon Flood anyone remember Steve Patterson big things were expected another Ebrall and not forgetting old potter s picture palace himself Mark I’ve come from Man U Dempsey

Seems like the only good player we've ever signed from Manure was Dean Henderson!

I'd forgotten those first two.

Les Tibbett - I never liked him. He just booted it up the left flank every time he got it and it usually went out for a throw-in. Him and Andy Barnsley, who did similar at right back, were just poor. Tibbett, at least, could tackle. That's about it.

Jon Flood - the ginger winger - I thought he was quite good in patches tbh. Had a bit of pace about him and would create problems for the defence. In that team, at that time, he was a ray of hope. Shows how bad we were I suppose!

Steve Patterson...I don't remember him at all. I remember Mark Patterson. Howard Kendall signed him, and along with the talented Don Hutchison, I thought they transformed Bassett's hoofball team into a good passing team. Patterson was a very aggressive, energetic, midfield tiger. Hutchison was the lazy genius midfielder. But they worked well together. There was another Patterson, wasn't there? (Or have I got the surname wrong?). A young kid with lots of dark curly hair that came from Man Utd. He looked good in patches, in the 80's, but never quite made it. Which one was that?

Paterson. Got injured after we signed him in summer 1980 and never got better.

The kid I'm thinking of was a young lad who we got from Man U in the 80's and he played a number of games, he looked like he could make a promising player, but we never found out. He had a lot of dark, really curly hair. Maybe that wasn't "Patterson", I've got "McDowell" in my head now for some reason. I know, nothing like "Patterson", but it will come to me eventually! Unless you tell me first? 🤔

Didn’t Tibbott play in midfield for us as well as LB? Always picking up knocks?

Dempsey was about 8 stone wet through and bout 5 foot 6 black curly hair scored a couple of decent free kicks Mckewen signed him

“The former Aberdeen gaffer fumed: “Fifty fans shouted it’s went doonhill since Paterson took over?!?

“Each one o that c***s houses r getting fire bombed.”

Bassett signed some shite Cliff Powell sure that was his name and Peter iam good at hitting the crossbar and post but carnt score Hetherstone , the 2 dopey twats from Newport Williams and Carr , I never liked Steve Thompson later our manager Wally fuckin Downs , I was never a big fan of Gannon why he played in semi against the pigs I will never know and finally the right back we signed from millwall £10000who was useless carnt remember his name

Andy Barnsley.

England U21 Defender, apparently a huge prospect, bought from Rotherham in the mid 80s I remember us crowing that we had pipped a number of top flight sides to the signing.

He turned out to be absolutely terrible in a relegation team, one particular memory is a ridiculously stupid own goal at home to Bradford.

Steve Paterson was signed from Man U for £60K. Got injured in pre-season training and was never fit again to play for our first team

I think that is possibly him - although he looks quite a lot older in that photo than I remember him! I seem to remember him playing a few games for us as well, but I guess they could have been pre-season games.

Yep that’s the one midfielder

Alan Young?

He came with big promise - but always seemed to be injured. Not to the extent of the others you mentioned - but he was often out injured. He also used to enter the pitch with soaking wet hair - which was a bit odd! 🤔

Another injury prone one was Laurent D' Jaffo. Played like a Jaffa until his contract was running out -then became a man possessed, until he got a new contract, then went back to being a Jaffa again!

You know what?

IF...

and I mean IF....

by some grace of God, I'd been born with the talent of some of these guys - I'd have my photo now on the wall in the Blades legend suite - because I'd have bust a bloody gut to do my utmost for the club.

But...

Not everyone is the same I suppose.

Will Hoskins.

This guy should have been our insurance policy against Ched going down. Had made a habit of scoring regularly in the third tier, surely he would bang them in for United at the top of the division if the time came?

No. Utter bobbins. And then got injured when Evans went down. FFS.

EDIT: Feels like more than a decade ago but it's actually 9 years. F**k me.

I delved down to the depths of hell to find these.

Marcel Seip
Toni Kallio
Kingsley James
Aymen Tahar
Matthew Spring
John Halls
Evan Horwood
Phil Barnes
Tommy Johnson
Carl Robinson
Grant Smith
Richard Edgehill
Lewis Killeen
Andy Smith
James Thomas
Andy Woodward
Mark Ward

I haven't made these people up, they all actually played first team football for Sheffield United.

Very badly though.

Mark ward coach at junior blades under 13s with Teds grandson . Kallio and Tahar only ones never heard of

Finally got through them all , Barry Hales, he was as wide as he was tall . His shirt could have been used as a side screen at Lords. If it was white.

He was class. The manager was useless and a complete nob, as confirmed by every player that played under him.

His time here was a shambles but not because he couldn't play football.

5 minutes under Blackwell.
A number of games under a rather naive Gary Speed.
A number under a clown of a caretaker.
Ralph Wiggum then took over and ditched all our talented players (including LB) in exchange for Doyle, Collins, Riise and Bent. Thanks for that, Ralph...

He just played a very specific role that didn't exist in our imploding club, except for a fleeting moment under Speed.
