No, I fundamentally disagree with that.
United should have expectations. It should be a matter of shame that we lag behind so many other clubs that do not have the support or catchment area we do.
It shouldn't be acceptable that we're the worst performing 'big' club in the country.
And it never will be the fault of the fans that United say one thing, do another.
For me, losing players like Walker and Naughton, players I could really relate to, just isn't that funny. Seeing Kenny walk out the door in the circumstances he has, I just can't see the wry humour in it.
Watching a bunch of journeymen nomarks next season will be a chore, eased by the beers afterwards. We'll probably laugh at Ched's comical ineptitude and the decision to spend £3m on him but it's a pretty hollow laugh when us mugs are paying him £10,000 a week at the very least.
Part of this is definitely about football in general disconnecting itself from the real world. But that doesn't mean I can easily accept United being part of that.

Fair answer. I guess it's just matter of how much we choose to dwell on these failings and assign blame.

I generally have a lot more patience with doers rather than talkers (from workplace experience). I also think that those running United are well intentioned. So all in all, my anger levels don't rise as much as some.

I completely agree re: doers rather than talkers. If there's a problem, do something about it. If you're whinging every week, get in the car park and do something about it. Maybe we're in the wrong place JD.

I would just like to say thanks for a thoughtful, reasoned post which puts your points across without seeking to patronise, denigrate or insult the person you are responding to. Seriously.

I wasn't intending to have a pop at anyone, although I see how that could be inferred.

Basically I don't feel as though I've got the right to be so strident in my opinions about the running of SUFC when I've no practical experience of any such thing, or any intention of getting involved. It doesn't preclude me from having opinions, but I try to be as measured as possible in my criticism and praise. Probably makes me a dull read. :)

Bah! He just knows not to mess with my towering intellect and black-belt moves. ;)
