Aside from Ched Evans, was my player of the year in our first league one season, in a decent side who should have gone up.

He was very good in the first season when we played possession based football. Not so good in DW1’s second season when we were more direct.

Always had a powerful left foot did Doyle - scored a few for us from outside the box. And he would put his foot in when others wouldn’t.

But he really was rubbish. Only with Kevin McDonald next to him were his limitations offset. If we’d bought better than Doyle and Collins when Mickey Adams was desperate then our wilderness years would have been a lot shorter.

When we went up with Reading in 2005/6, Harper and Sidwell were the best midfield two in the Champ by a mile. I remember being genuinely excited when we signed Harper. Also remember thinking “That’ll teach me” after a handful of games.

The best three Midfielders we had in League one before the coming of Wilder were Kevin MacDonald, Steven Quinn and Jamie Murphy, so McCabe moved swiftly to ensure we sold them on as quickly as possible.

I remember Harper in the copthorne when I was going in during the week. He hung around with another waster who was also staying there, a loan player I think whose name escapes me, think he'd played for West Ham? They always looked lairy in there.

Harper emulated all that was bad at the club at that time. The way he'd stand in the centre circle waving his arms around directing the traffic looking gormless, and he couldn't run. At least Doyle could do the Lambeth Walk

Obviously a marmite character dividing opinions. However, his detractors may (or may not) like to know, that we won a greater percentage of matches when he was playing than when he wasn`t.

Sad to see Notts County getting excited about progressing in the FA Trophy.

Happy for Doyle to put them through with such a spectacular dramatic late winner. I don’t see the need for the abuse he’s getting. Yes he was limited, but he always gave 100% on the pitch and if we fans wanted to be higher up the league with better quality players that wasn’t his fault. He was in tears being interviewed after one of the playoff defeats and he swore he would stay and help the club back up to the Championship if he could. He really did care.

As for pointing and shouting, there’d be no room for any other statues next to the huge Paul Thirlwell one.

Lee Williamson had a good goal output in Wilson's first season, 13 I think.

I always thought he was a midfielder but Wilson had him on the right wing.

Big believer in not blaming players for being shit or taking a wage. Sure you can blame them for a bad attitude but they didn't sign themselves, they didn't offer themselves a contract. They have to play aswell as they can and it's other people's jobs to determine if they are good enough.

A limited player but I could never dislike the guy. There's nothing wrong with talking about ability, of course, but I try my hardest not to criticise players like Doyle too much. Neil Collins was another one. He teared up after finally playing when Clough sidelined him. We had a lot of players around that time that walked off the pitch after 90 minutes without even being out of breath. Doyle was never one of them. If he could've been a better player then he would've been. And if we hadn't had the odd player like Doyle giving his all then things would've been a lot worse.
