He was very good in the first season when we played possession based football. Not so good in DW1’s second season when we were more direct.Tin hat on, but;
Aside from Ched Evans, was my player of the year in our first league one season, in a decent side who should have gone up.
The longevity of their shitness came to define a era of disappointment. Atleast the non footballers of woolford, hammond and sammon were barely hereDean Hammond , Martyn woolford , Conor sammon , 3 of the top me head in the ENT years since Doyle that where far worse and couldn't have giving a damn about the club .
James Harper![]()
And two seasons in a row ever present in the Premier League for Reading wow! That's quite impressive. Must have been United dragging him down to our level at the time!
This, too many took the piss and for all his limitations Doyle did give a fuck and when people were in his back he didn’t disappear up his own arseThere were times in the dark days that the only one of our players giving a shit was Doyle.
I remember Harper in the copthorne when I was going in during the week. He hung around with another waster who was also staying there, a loan player I think whose name escapes me, think he'd played for West Ham? They always looked lairy in there.When we went up with Reading in 2005/6, Harper and Sidwell were the best midfield two in the Champ by a mile. I remember being genuinely excited when we signed Harper. Also remember thinking “That’ll teach me” after a handful of games.
Beat Jedi has a point. We achieved the same with more than a few players, 2007-2016.

Jamie Murphy was a winger not a midfielder .Doyle was a limited trier, the only real outstanding positive memory is the Cockney walk at West Ham.
The best three Midfielders we had in League one before the coming of Wilder were Kevin MacDonald, Steven Quinn and Jamie Murphy, so McCabe moved swiftly to ensure we sold them on as quickly as possible.

Lee Williamson had a good goal output in Wilson's first season, 13 I think.Jamie Murphy was a winger not a midfielder .
Nice one Doylie
Never realised it meant so much to him playing for us. It made me a bit emotional that did. Gone up in my estimation that lad has. Makes you realise what a special club we support. Utb! And glttl!!
Whatever you think of him just enjoy the fact that many old players have such an infirmity to a very special football club.
I think that should be "affinity".
2 mins 30 for the Michael Doyle interview but it's all worth listening to!
