This is a good signing. He is sharp and dangerous. He might not flurrish under hoofball, but that is a risk we take with all players. This could also pave way for Henderson leaving, which (imo) is a good thing. If we could cash in on Henderson (I'd take anything over a mill) we could invest the money in others areas (CM and CB please!) and it would free up some of the wage bill (Henderson being a big earner and all)
Decent signing, something a bit different, though I see this as now clearly being the end of the road for Billy, Boggy and Evans top two for next season, that lad will come of age very soon I'm sure, could our starting line up consist of something like this.....
GK: ?
LB: Naysmith
CB: Morgan
CB: ?
RB: Lowton
LM: Cresswell
CM: Monty
CM: Williamson
RM: Ward
ST: Evans
ST: Boggy
Thoughts on the 2 ?'s ? Seems inevitable that Paddy will go, not many, regardless of loyalty, is likely to turn down twice as much money, I know I wouldn't! Stoke want rid of Simmo but could we afford his wage demands? That now leaves us requiring a decent centre back, to partner the loyal old dog that is Morgs
Norfolk's post just shows how far we are away from having a decent first team (never mind squad).
Ward and Wlliamson have struggled with injuries throughout their career and cannot be replied upon. To put Cresswell, by far our best striker last season, out of the left wing is sheer luncacy. Only an completley clueless numpty with no tactical nouss whatsoever would to that (unfortunatrely KB fits that bill). I think the team will be more like:
--------- ?
? ? Morgs Naysmith
-------- Monty
? ? Yeates
------ Evans Cresswell
We have strength in depth in only one area, up front. With Boggy, Hendo and Sharp up top we've extra options (although I appreciate at least one of the last 2 mentioned will leave). The defence needs urgent strenghtening. Maybe Lowton could player right back, or we could bring in Connoly ffrom Derby. Seip is not a bad CB, but I'd prefer him as cover. Bartely on a season long loan could potentially be a good option.
Simmonsen would be an adequate replacement for Paddy (although I'm sceptical it will happen). I'd be sorry to see Paddy go, but bringing in Simmonsen would make amenz.
Midfield is a real problem area (how many times have I said that). Yeates can do a job and if Ward is fit then we have 3 competent players in midfield. We just need a creative midfielder. Yes we already have (a good) one at the club, but he is injury prone and (unfortunately) cannot be relied upon.
Getting Boggy and Monty to put pen to paper were positve steps, however we have a long way to go .........
