Answered my question thenScrub that. Dosent seem so. What advantage do you get from being offside when the ball is played backwards. Very odd..
Still ridiculous

Something needs to change as that looked ridiculous.Agree....but how do you incorporate it into the rules?
Every suggestion I’ve heard trying to improve VAR brings up potentially equally negative consequences.
This season was forced to highlight teething problems.
You can bet that over the Summer all these VAR will be scrutinised with slight improvements made.
As Steve McManaman said you can’t blame VAR when it’s making the correct decision in accordance with the current rules.
So do the rules need changing for next season?

But according to last nights VAR your description would be offside thats what we are talking about. take a look? Are these Parody Accounts suggesting Defending Teams put everyone on the Halfway Line ?
Because even Alan Knill has a routine that would overcome that. Fleck swings a corner in & McBurnie jumps & heads it into the goal. One nil..... No VAR.....

Nope. You cannot be offside if you receive the ball from a corner. The player given offside last night was not the player who received the ball directly from the corner. Take a look.....But according to last nights VAR your description would be offside thats what we are talking about. take a look
just looked again sorry all this morning i thought it was against the player first receiving the ball not the return pass. just shows how close it wasNope. But the ball is paaed back. Off side was to stop goal hanging. If you pass backwards and you are in front of the defender you are at a disadvantage. Footbal is struggling if this is the way things are going. The advantage gained is you can cross the ball & your teammate can head it in the goal. That sounds like quite an advantage to me. Not odd.....
Mate. They "scored" how is that a disadvantage? I've been consistent on this. I may not want VAR, but we've got it & offside is offside. Here's a brilliant explanation of the maths....But the ball is paaed back. Off side was to stop goal hanging. If you pass backwards and you are in front of the defender you are at a disadvantage. Footbal is struggling if this is the way things are going.
I would (and I am sure you would be) devastated if a Blades goal was disallowed for that. If he was offside.........
Am I missing something with this goal. What was offside? Both passes went backwards didn't they? I am getting on but I thought the ball had to be played forward to be offside?
I think for off side decisions there has to be some allowance for "margin of error". Something similar to "umpires call"for LBW decisions in cricket.
I think also It would be easier to understand the off side rule if there had to be daylight between attacker and defender for offside to be given.
I thought VAR should primarily be introduced to stop the likes of Maradonna's hand of god goal, Henri's handball in the world cup qualifier, diving and various other cheating.
As you say there were bound to be teething troubles, and we have to accept that, but if anything in life is changed it hopefully has to be for the better
Even if you change the offside rule to clear daylight, there is still a line where a player is either onside or offside and that would still come down to millimetres.
I think like you say a linesman’s call is probably the way to go with offside, but the problem is that people will still moan. What is the margin of error for lineman’s call going to be? There is still that millimetres call where VAR draws a line and says offside or onside.
I don't know what to think on that decision.

Have a quick look at the rules they change every season but you cannot and I don't think you ever could be offside from a corner.Point being made is the McBurnie is offside when the corner is taken.

I could try and explain it but looking up the rule would give you a much more complete explanation or you can accept that you can be offside passing the ball backwards. No because the ball is passed back but that didn't count for Wolves?
You cannot be offside if you receive the ball directly from a Corner. That rule in place all my life to date.Point being made is the McBurnie is offside when the corner is taken.
I don't think I'm arguing in this thread that VAR is making watching football better. I am arguing that players can still be offside if the ball is passed backwards to them. VAR hasn't changed that.Phil we will agree to disagree. If this is making watching football better then, yes I am in the wrong.

In case you missed it .... I'm a 61 year old man running a parody gang of football hooligans on the internet called the Carrier Bag Firm .... I often don't take things all that seriously.I think the comments are tongue in cheek, at least mine are because it's difficult to take horseshit seriously except for the effect it has had on the game.
The difference being that he would be behind the ball from a corner. No because the ball is passed back but that didn't count for Wolves?
