VAR VAR ♥️

The whole point is though is that it doesn't have to be deliberate. I disagree with stupid decisions where it doesn't divert the course of the ball, or brushes against someone's arm and continues on its path then fine but when it contributes towards the play and changes the outcome completely then it has to be given as a handball.

Slightly hypocritical I know, can't have everything but personally, I'm all for that kind of VAR decision be it for, or against us and is exactly what VAR should be used for.

As enjoyable as it was, VAR is still horseshit.

I probably cheered louder after VAR intervened than I did for the mcburnie goal maybe because I was bag of swears after conceding in the last minute, but afterwards I felt guilty due to me continually slagging off VAR, I know we're due one, but it was a goal, no doubt, I suppose that's the 2 points back from the win at white hart lane

It was as blatant a handball in the build up to the goal as you'll see, so under the new laws, which many people seem to be struggling to understand, it was never going to be allowed and quite rightly. VAR is shit for offsides etc but for handballs it works and tonight it worked well.

Just watched it again and Egan made a brilliant defensive header on Rice as he was falling forwards which sent the ball straight onto Rice's arm as he knocked it forward. If he had not handballed it the ball from the header would have gone way over to the left hence no goal. VAR, right decision no matter what anyone says.

Buzzing for the 3 points...Henderson dodged one there...near post last 2 home games...I love the guy and he,s young and learning..but its basics..anyway UTMB!

No one is disputing that it was correctly ruled out, just that a) normally that is not a handball and b) that the new rule is stupid. a) is fact and b) is opinion.

Looked like a foul by Rice to me anyway even without the handball...he jumps into it and catches him with his thigh. 🤔

Read a great tweet earlier but can't find it now, I'm paraphrasing slightly, but it was along the lines of "for years under the old rules, players have cried hand ball and hounded the ref at the slightest incidents, now they get their wish and they can't cope with it"

That was far more of a clear cut (and correct decision) than most of our VAR decisions.

The usual media commentators and saddos on social media are slagging it off as ruining the game, but it was spot on there. Doesn't matter if it was unintentional, they still benefited from it hitting an illegal part of the body.

I am not a saddo and go to most matches. I still say it is ruining the game for the people attending matches. It is not so bad for neutrals and armchair watches. Last night I could not celebrate our goal until WH restarted the game because of the worry that VAR would overturn the goal.

The decision was correct. It was clear and obvious. Surely VAR was introduced to cut out obvious errors and the stuff the referee can't see.

I just feel everytime there's a VAR decision, the same people in the media, and nationally on Social Media, jump all over it and say it's a disgrace regardless of the decision.

It's the very very marginal offsides that take upto 3 minutes and make no difference to the goal that need cutting out.

I celebrated that goal being chalked off as much as any goal we’ve scored. What a moment taking into account the opposition and the time in the game.

but VAR is still wank. In its current implementation it’s ruining football. The new handball rule is toss and I think they should have max 30 seconds to decide if something clear and obvious has been missed. If it’s not clear and obvious within 30 seconds then the onfield decision stands. None of this drawing lines on the pitch with an etchasketch bullocks.

The issue on this decision was not VAR but the new rule that if it hits the hand it’s a foul even if it’s unintentional. I think this just highlights that the new rule is probably wrong and should be changed back. For me VAR worked as under the current rules it showed that it hit the players hand which the ref had missed. it was an error which is just what VAR is for. Where VAR doesn’t work is for marginal offsides. That needs a margin for error to be built into decisions.

If the referee had given the decision it would have been acknowledged as a fair and accurate interpretation of the rules, because it was VAR and cost WEST HAM a last minute equalising goal it is thought of as incorrect.

Unintentional or not, if that ball doesn’t hit his hand then the ball goes towards the touch line and they probably don’t score.

That’s the dilemma for me with the handball rule, it was clearly unintentional but they benefited from it, as like you say Egan’s header would’ve gone towards the touch line.

It’s not fair on the defending team to allow attacking teams to allow accidental handballs to help create goals, but we all want to see more goals. So I think the law makers are in a difficult position with this one.

Listening to Talksport this morning (I know it's the job of the station to rile, it's their sales pitch) and reading the BBC Sport app, all the talk is of 'West Ham robbed', and 'West Ham fans stripped of their joy'.

When we had umpteen decisions against us? Not a sniff. Barely a mention.

I don't mean to have a woe is us, small team mentality, I'm more delighted that the team most affected by VAR (the stats show) finally have a VAR decision in our favour and a club followed by those in high places has been fucked over in the process.

The only problem with var, (or at least var in combination with the rules as they stand, to the letter) is the off side decisions that are imperceptible to the human eye, in real time.
Wrong. There are many problems with VAR - not least that it kills spontaneity in the game, it's slow, it remove players, fans, everyone watching in the stadium, from the game, it's too forensic and (the one you got right) it's based on situations which cannot be detected by the human eye.

Blame Terry Henry.

I thought that was tough on West Ham tbh, but as the rules stand (and this is part of the problem) any ball that hits a players hand is a handball. So the decision is technically correct.

I don't believe any Blade who says they wouldn't have been equally livid if that decision had gone against us - so what would be really helpful now is that fans stand together against this nonsense called VAR and the ridiculous changes to the rules which permit such barmy decisions.

There's no credibility in saying you hate VAR when it goes against you and love it when it goes for you. FFS! Be consistent and stand up for what you believe to be correct and fair - that's the only way we will stop this intervention ruining our game.

Fans were never ever going to miss a chance to bait West Ham over an incident like that. I think the handball rule is crap, and I’ve always been against VAR. But how I laughed last night...

TBH I think it is a bit small-time.

Those organisations who have bothered to monitor it say we're the most adversely affected by VAR so far, but the nature of the phantom equaliser last night, with virtually the last kick, makes it far more dramatic and critical to the result.

Egan's "goal" at Brighton didn't cost us any points, neither did McGoldrick's at Spurs in the end.

There have been two crucial VAR decisions, though, in injury time, and both of those have actually gone in our favour. We've gained three points from those.

I’ve been saying this for weeks, football fans are massive hypocrites. Where were the “fuck VAR” and “It’s not football anymore” songs last night?

As soon as we get a big decision go for us, the majority are ok with VAR. It will always be the same, we go to watch United win and we don’t care how. At least with VAR there is less chance of being robbed by refereeing decisions as it’s consistent, might be bad in some cases but it’s consistent.

Basham’s red card at Norwich was also huge, that could’ve cost us points at Norwich and points in the matches he could’ve been suspended for.

Even though it’s against them I can’t help but feel a bit sorry for them. Imagine if that was us, 90th min, going mental?

Fuck VAR
