Its an interesting question, spotting future managerial talent and judging by the appointments some teams make its not one with any easy answers.
Success is a function of a number of characteristics at a club and in the manager themselves. If you look at CWAK as a team CW clearly has plenty of energy, is driven to succeed, is relentless in pushing for improvement, is a great man manager, is happy to take on the burden of being the public face of the club, he also comes across as a lot smarter than the average footballer which I think is vital. AK loves the day to day coaching, is open to new ideas, is not scared by breaking the mould, is an innovator, is happy to be out of the limelight. Both of them get along and recognise the contribution of the other, both have a lifetimes experience across virtually all levels of football, both clearly think strategically. The club 3 years ago was pretty much broken, was desperate for stability, was failing. This is important because it meant the board were happy to let CWAK get on with it particularly as CW clearly loves the club, a big bonus, and was absolutely opposed to splashing whatever cash he could get hold of to try and get a quick fix.
When you hear pundits spouting an opinion about "future managerial potential" its invariably a John Terry type rather than a Matt Le Tissier type, hard nosed, probably been a captain, hard working rather than a crowd pleaser, blunt, often aggressive; often "characters' This type can have an impact and be successful at a club recent examples of these include, Bowyer, Barton, Lennon bloody Ainsworth but I'm not sure its something that is long lasting in the majority of cases. The successful managers, like CW show they can succeed in multiple situations, most managers don't repeat success, take Rowett, Monk as examples.
So who out of the current squad, no bloody idea of course I do like Fleck as a call but think Norwood might be a better shout. Able to deal positively with massive disappointment, willing to learn, decisive, determined. Not scared to go against the flow, opinionated. Who knows?
