Lundstram new contract? Option to buy Besic?

As I understand he can only sign a pre-contract elsewhere at a European (or Scottish) club until May 30th , after that point he is 'free' to talk to any English team to sign on a free. He'd get a decent signing on bonus as is customary in those situations.

If a PL club/agent has talked to him before then it is a very serious offence and FIFA have issued transfer bans before so doubt anyone has taken that risk!

The only clubs I can think of outside England who might be interested in him and who he could want to go to are Rangers and Celtic.

And I think Wilder would keep him in the set up even if he is leaving for the good of the team, unless of course there is a bust-up which seemingly hasn't happened.

A question for the contract nerds.

We have an option on Lundstram to extend for an additional year, as per Wilder’s comments. But is that something that only kicks in at the end of the season officially, and if so is he allowed to sign a pre-contract with another team before then? Interested on the exact mechanics of this. Could be a nice one for the annual summer court hearings for the club.

I’m envisaging a situation where he signs a pre-contract elsewhere, the club activates the extension, with it unclear which one wins. The court rules in the player’s favour, with people in the future referring to The Lundstram Rule. It would be an amazing end to the Year of Lundstramania.

I'd be looking to sign Besic - He's proven he can fit in our team and seems happy in the squad.
We should be looking at 2 players per position next year and in central midfield this would give us:
Norwood--Berge
Fleck--Freeman
Lundstram--Besic
Add a few utility players like Robinson, Osborn, Rodwell? and we look well covered in these positions.
I hope for Lundstram's own sake that he's not going to throw his toys out of the pram - Duffy should be used as a warning against this behaviour.
If we can tie all this up, we can concentrate our transfer efforts in more pressing areas such as wing-back/defensive cover and a reliable 30-goal a year striker ;)

I'm fairly well versed in sports contract law* and if we have a year option on him as Wilder states, then he'd not be able to sign for another club. We'd have to sign something to the effect of not wanting to enact the years' extension which we can enforce at any time.

*I've played football manager a bit.

When did he say this? If we’ve got an option, we’ve got an option, we can exercise it. If he wants to go elsewhere, they’d have to pay us.

We have an option, he can’t sign a pre contract with anyone else and if he doesn’t sign his new contract he’ll be sold in the summer.

exactly my thoughts too.. Besic definitely provides a good option and we should snap him up, especially if we are in europe, that way the midfield is sorted then and we just have to find a few CB/WB backup options, Retsos could be decent on a perm, maybe Joe Rodon and/or Lenihan?

The job of our management team now is to explain and convince (because it’s true) football is not about a first eleven. Like rugby has, in a more physical environment realised, subs are replacements. Whether it be Billy or the Moose, Lumstram or Goldie it is about maximising our style. It is no longer the bench is the weaker players. If CW thinks actually play 60 mins to absorb and then 30 mins kill one week it might be completely the opposite the next week. That is modern day football

He deserved to be dropped. He played well against Palace when he came on, I don’t think he was great yday but he scored the winner so that counts for something.

I think he will get the nod against Brighton too.

Besic was away from the players at both Manchester and Dubai airport . Saw him several times and he was with his agent(s) and/or friends and had nothing to do with his teammates.
All the other were together so v strange !

Don’t think Deano has traveled either but all the new lads have.

He’s now arrived.

In the Wilder/Bettis interview on YouTube they were talking about contracts and my understanding from what they said was that many (if not all) of the players contracts were being looked at over the break. As we currently reportedly have the lowest wage bill in the PL by some margin presumably we are looking at perhaps increasing basic pay and possibly bonuses to try and reduce the risk of players being "poached" by other clubs. I would have thought also that all the players will be on some sort of bonus for this season if they a) avoid relegation and b) for finishing higher up the League as that affects the Prize money the Club will get. That bonus together with the bonus they will have got for winning promotion last season will probably mean that their earnings are considerably higher than the figures reported in the press. Whilst we cannot expect to compete with the wages paid by say City and Manure, we can at least get somewhere near to other PL clubs. Wilder seemed to say that the players all love playing for the club and being part of "the journey" and we would all hope that would count for something but at the end of the day money talks and if you are e.g. Fleck at age 28/29 and someone says they'll double you earnings and give you a 3/4 year contract you have to think hard before you turn that down.
The body language and vibes from Lunny I felt were not good but let's hope Wilder & co can talk him and any others who might be dithering round and convince them that their best future lies with us.

Yeah there was some serious expression in his celebration pushing away one or two and pointing to himself. Obviously a retort to being dropped.

No problem with him being pissed off at being dropped, and expressing it. You’d assume it demonstrates desire, determination, self belief.

Not sure about the pointing at himself though. That thing players do these days after scoring, where they run backwards at the crowd/camera, pointing at the name on the back of their shirt, always winds me up. “It’s all about me, me, me. Look at me, me, me”. Our players don’t do that. And you’d assume that those who do might not prosper under a Tufty regime. JL’s pointing at himself on Sunday, though, looked uncomfortably close to that.

Lunny has been absolutely fantastic for us this season. But he’s also been well below those standards at times, and arguably deserved his “rest” from the starting XI. In that context, publicly giving it the “me, me, me” maybe wasn’t the best look.
