Doesn't matter what industry your in, when someone comes in and wants to quit, IF they are essential to the business, then you try and negotiate, after all its in the best interest if the business, and if they are offering something thats hard to replace, as long as it doesn't have a knock on effect, you try and change their minds,,When someone has made up their mind they want to leave, you can't change it, your putting off the inevitable, offering an improved contract was the right thing to do,,,leaving it on the table showed weakness and desperation,,Lunny this is the offer, you don't have to sign it now, its available for 48 hours, think about it, after that sorry its in both our best interests we move on.

I know there is already another thread on unpopular opinions, but I don't really understand the hate for Lunny.

I know he's a bit shit and that he seems to have cruised through this season (he's hardly alone in that)

My take is that we signed him from league 1, probably with the expectation that he'd be a competitive player in the Championship.

The fact he's refused a contract upgrade is something hundreds of players have done before and means he's probably one of the lowest paid players at the club.

If I get a ticket for Sunday, booing Lundstram just wouldn't be in my thought pattern. I'd not want to see him on the pitch, as I don't really rate him but he's not really got under my skin unlike others on here

Watch some of the goals we have conceded lately when he has played. The prick has checked out and its like watch us play with 10 men.

Surprised it took this long for Hecky to finally drop him because Wilder was never going to.

Hating/booing/barracking another human being always seems a little bonkers to me.

I get the hatred for Lundstram as he's clearly mailed it in for the past 8 months, but the ire for me is on the person who put the squad together that meant he was our only viable option for most of this season, and the total dipshit who kept picking him ahead of Osborn, Bogle and countless youngsters after it was confirmed we were relegated.

The sheer lunacy of picking him and Ampadu once we were down is singularly the reason Twattinbottom shouldn't be on any prospective manager list.

I want a double hard bastard as manager like Tufty used to be not some woke, media friendly Patsy!

Couldn't agree more, it's like he is the only player who hasn't performed all season and if only we hadn't picked him we would have loads more points because every other player has played at peak performance levels.
Rammers and Didzy are the only players that come out of this season with any credit

I agree but even those two have had more than a couple of really poor games. Bogle sparkled for a handful of games but then faded.
The u23s have had a good season. And that's it. Been a really depressing season. Glad we're making a fresh start with the new manager, whoever it is. Big job on turning this around, but in football things can change quickly

I never boo anyone who pulls on the shirt (Madine was a real Bladey test though) and the reality is that Lunny is a soccer mercenary, just that, nothing else and I'll be glad to see him gone.

I`m sure someone will put together a complilation of his efforts. What has riled fans the most is him losing the ball in midfield or like his last match passing the ball to the opposition then casually turning round and trotting back towards our goal watching the play go on and the opposition score.

There has been a collective issue with the players : yes
Lunny is not the only one to be blamed : yes
Lunny is probably in the top 3 worst players this season if not the top : YES!

So you can understand why people do not like the player.

I agree on the booing, it never sits well with me. Lundstram is entitled to find another club just as Fleck and McGoldrick came to us in the same way. Not all players are Billy or Dane Whitehouse who love the club, we are just a stopping point in their career. It is literally "man wants to do the same job for more money or better career prospects" and how many of us in our own occupations have never done the same

i hate lundstram for his disgusting displays hes put in this season and disagree with a lot of posters on this thread hes definetly been our worst performer this season but im afraid only one man to blame and thats chris wilder for continually playing him when it was obvious to all blades fans he didnt give a s**t

Other players have put more effort in than Lunny. I know we were poor against Newcastle but we still had players throwing themselves in the way of shots and tracking back.

Lunny in the last 6 months loses possession and lets everyone else pick up the pieces.

If he had signed a contract and still played as badly as he has this season, would he have stood out from another 8 or 9 of our players?

Nope, its obvious to spot a player not tracking back when they fuck up. If he is still doing that and not putting a shift in then he will rightly get pelters from fans regardless of his contract status.

The rest of the squad have been poor defensively and poor in attack but the effort in most matches has been there from most of them. It also has to be said the rest of the squad has changed from week to week due to injuries. Lunny has been regularly in the team until recently for most of the season.

He got shafted when he was playing well just so they could shoehorn Berge into the team.

If he was going to be a bench warmer he wanted to make it worth it financially. It wasn't so he decided not to sign it.

Nobody does much once they've put their notice in.

Insane levels of scapegoating.

Cheers Chris.

He was bench warmer when he joined us. Berge signing provided competition for places in midfield.

He dragged that contract saga out for a year, he should have fucked off last summer if he was that pissed off.

He wasn't a bench warmer when Berge signed. He was in the team on merit and was playing well and didn't deserve to be dropped.

He might not be pissed off and probably doesn't see the contract situation as a saga. It's only our fans that have their knickers in a twist about it. He might just be doing what suits him - stay in a job until the contract runs out then sign one that is acceptable with another club. He probably has no hard feelings at all.

There is certainly a time and place for this with opposition players, as it may put them off their game a little an help our team. But for your own players, it's bonkers as there is nothing to gain and it's hardly going to make them play better, quite the opposite is likely. Completly counterproductive.

I've found his lack of effort frustrating recently. But the blame for him being on the pitch lies 100% with the current and former manager

He wasn't playing well at all to be fair when Berge joined. He'd lost his place to Besic for a few games and the majority of fans wanted Besic in instead of Lundstram. He didn't have good game from December onwards and was obviously already reverting back to his natural level after his purple patch.

I'm not blaming him for leaving at all but we needed to improve on him whatever for this season which we never did.

Absolutely correct, he has never gone public about not been offered the contract he wants, he just got on with his job until its time for him to move on. When the video came out of Jebbison returning to the dressing room after the Everton game he made as much fuss of the lad as anyone, didn't sit in the corner sulking.

Got to partially disagree on this one, Roy. Out of the league games, he lost his place to Besic for the two games against Man City, probably for a bit of forged steel in the middle. The Besic calls were probably justified as he did well and scored a nice one in the FA Cup.

He might have deserved a battle for that RCB spot from Besic but they both ended up getting binned for Berge and neither deserved it.

Lundstram was going off form and was then absolutely God awful at Arsenal, that's when he got binned.

Besic was involved in our equaliser at the Emirates if memory serves, and he deserved the spot. Lundstram was rightfully behind Berge, Besic was hard done by.

Good memory, I just remember thinking it was harsh.

As an aside, just looked and Besic's contract runs out at Everton this summer. Probably would.

Well it's no longer just a theory. Got a ticket for BLUT.

Can't wait to tell me all what I think. Or perhaps I'll just clap and cheer a bit instead

Has lundstram been as bad as Norwood this season?
I'd par them with eachother to be honest.
Lundstram in my opinion had an excellent season last season, even better than Norwood I reckon.
Both have been torrid this season and given goals away.
Norwood deserves the same stick purely based on performances on the pitch, and to me has been the stand out under performing player in our side this season, with fleck not far off either.

i want him to be picked on sunday and let 5k blades give him the barracking he richly deserves
Apologies ancient', but think you've got your priorities wrong, it's only about SUFC, not some snivelling, half decent footballer who spit the proverbial out, and isn't prepared to put in the work demanded by his decent wage. I believe most fans can see the improvement in the team since he was left out.
Let him rot, I'm sure is future employers have seen his attitude and are thinking they need to reassess the situation in some way.
Lets not hamstring the team, onwards and upwards.

It's the 'contract rebel' tag that's getting him the special treatment. Less than a handful of players get any credit this season.

It’s his decision, lots of players do it, it can be a risk if you get injured in the final year, but if he believes he can get a better and longer deal, then that’s his decision
We wish him well and move on
Equally he has been pretty rubbish all season
