Lundstram new contract? Option to buy Besic?

His Dad isn't advising Lunny surely? 😉

No, I mean, agents are an unknown quantity but I trust Wilder, Knill, Mitchell and Bettis that they'll try and get it done, and if not, will line something up so it's not to our detriment if it doesn't.

Not as far as I know, but it appears the same agency representing Duffy is representing Lundstram.

I have complete faith in the others mentioned though.

With his contract running out I would say makes sense to sell if he can't agree a extension

I wonder if this is the direction we are heading judging by Wilder understandably losing some patience in today's post match press conference about new contracts

I thought lundstram had a years extension from june that the club had triggered anyway? If so hes going nowhere his he. It's not itk it's just something I read.

He said they need to hurry up and sign as he won't be waiting around for them.

The last time he was talked about in transfer rumours last year, the price mentioned was £9m. I suspect the price quoted now would be a bit less – partly because I imagine they didn’t attract bids of that sort, but I wouldn’t have thought it would be too much less given his stock is better today that it would have been performing in a poor Middlesbrough team. Our best hope for a cheaper deal might be to hope no bids come in this window, and revisit in the summer as he enters the last year of his deal. I could definitely see that scenario playing out.

I would guess we could get him for a bit less too. Let's be honest, hes had 3 or 4 decent sub appearances, hes still unproven. We cant really compare him to Lundstram who's had 10 good performances, some of which won us the match and only a few bad.
Everton might just want his wages off the books. I think they will jump at the chance to sell him.

Chris comments post match. Hurry up, not take time etc...Like that. No shit or bigger than this club when contract talks begin regarding a rise. Accept or be gone.😎

I would expect Besic to cost us at least £10 million. He's a proven international player with 43 caps. He's 27 so around his peak as a midfielder.

I'd expect him to sign for zero as he's out of contract soon and crawl over over broken glass to get a deal here. I think he would anall, sign him up.

2021

I would suspect he might go back to Fenerbace tbh.

Want to see Basic start on Tuesday, 1st to see how he goes and 2nd Lunnys really gone off the last 4 games! For some reason he’s stopped pushing forward when he gets the chance, easy ball, not taking players on like he was doing. Looks tired? + we need a striker in this window! a couple of injuries or suspensions and we would be stuffed.

Fitness pal - he's shot

Oh Lunny what have you done.....

Actually maybe he'll get lucky and join Fulham or Villa on a free for 55k week and a large signing on bonus.

Or perhaps he'll end up on Stoke's bench for half the value of the contract we offered him here. And lose forever the chance he had to play for England.

For the short term he'll be the one to lose out in the first team, if he had signed his new contract maybe we wouldn't have replaced him so perhaps we should be grateful.

No team is going to throw mega money at Lunny. He has been excellent for about 50% of his games and has gone off the boil recently which may be understandable if he knew that Berge was coming in. Hope he stays with us on a sensible contract.

Agree with that. Had a good start this year but ( if true) his demands were too high he has a problem now. We can take the extra year and he might not get much pitch time. To be fair to him though he does seem to have a strong mentality so hopefully we get him back firing as well.

Considering where he was last year, the improvement has been incredible. Imagine what that same improvement nexr year could look like?

Good post - Sensible being the key word....I had a gut feeling that he’s started to think he’s worth more to us than he actually is.....I would expect him to be the one to lose out now we have Berge.....I hope he stays, but he needs to be realistic

If hes available on a free he will get a massive signing on bonus as hed have cost 5-10m in the transfer market. I too hope he stays but I cant see it now.

Message to all our players....unless you are indispensable, maybe 5 or 6 of them... do not, I repeat.do not, f around with Wilder over contracts unless you are happy to leave

Sometimes it’s about having confidence in your own ability and striking whilst the iron is hot.

Lunny probably doesn’t know if he can forge a career at PL league level. If he had a crystal ball then the latter stages of his career might be in the Championship or even league 1 level. So if he has the chance to earn £60K a week for 4 years....that will set him up for life.....so even if he doesn‘t play it’s tempting.

Where as Berge could have waited until the Summer and earned double what he’s on with us.
but he’s confident he will forge a big career at the top. He sees United as a natural progression.
He’s thinking about his career (the bigger picture), instead of chasing the money and his career stalling.

I suppose Berge is only 21,,,,,so has plenty of time to earn big money where as Lunny is 25.
So Lunnys main priority is earning a big deal to set him up for life.

It doesn't matter whether you are Board level or playing, you have to match the Gaffer's ambitions and drive. He should have signed that contract.

I also think Lunny may have done a 'Leeds' and all the extra pre season before the actual pre season has burnt him out.

Can't see Besic signing for us now, shame for him but we've moved on (hopefully) though he has certainly played his part.

As for Lunny... why the **** hasn't he signed his contract?

Is he after more money? Does he think he can get more elsewhere or get a 'better' move elsewhere?

Something behind the scenes? Maybe signed a pre-contract to a team abroad?

Maybe looking for a move back to Everton

Doubt he’ll have signed a pre-contract elsewhere. Wilder would’ve told us.

A question for the contract nerds.

We have an option on Lundstram to extend for an additional year, as per Wilder’s comments. But is that something that only kicks in at the end of the season officially, and if so is he allowed to sign a pre-contract with another team before then? Interested on the exact mechanics of this. Could be a nice one for the annual summer court hearings for the club.

I’m envisaging a situation where he signs a pre-contract elsewhere, the club activates the extension, with it unclear which one wins. The court rules in the player’s favour, with people in the future referring to The Lundstram Rule. It would be an amazing end to the Year of Lundstramania.
