L**ds 5 Blades 0 in March 1988. Wilder and Leaning the Blades players. Ian Baird in front of Wilder and the header (dont know who) of the ball.
I suffered that one , John Pearson scored a hat trick and was showing off in The Ball at Ecclesfield with it by 6pm that evening.

Bleak times , followed up with a 6-0 at Ayresome Park shortly afterwards. That was a grim afternoon.

Suggs & Harrington’s kitted me out for wardrobe for a lot of my childhood 👍
That was a lovely building. Demolished for a 60's concrete monstrosity. Without getting into a political debate, do they ever learn? Opposite here was a parade of Edwardian buildings recently occupied by Street Food Chef, Fattoush etc. Thriving modern businesses. Demolished.

I think that building has just been gutted to make way for a new interior with the facade being retained. Hope so anyway.

If leather case balls were used on the road or school yards they soon wore out. Had a full size one when about 8, always looking for value for money, Yorkshire folk understand, anyhow some seventeen years later gave it to a mate who had lost one he'd borrowed so we could have a kick about when time allowed.

It was not unusual for kids to get concussion heading a wet caseball. I remember one kid in particular at junior school who got concussed twice (on different occasions) and the ambulance coming to the school field.

Before field games the teachers would get us to brush dubbin on the ball to stop water getting in. It was as heavy as a medicine ball when wet.

Agree with you 100% regarding old buildings been knocked down for the sake of it , our town centre has long needed some cash spending on it but when you visit other cities they’ve done it by renovating the old buildings

😩😢😫 for the loss of Mick.
Seeing that mans face(you know who) makes me extremely angry. I'm still under therapy for this act of treachery and now you give me a visual image which will probably take another fifty odd years to over come. Did I tell you I'm planning to be eternal;). Great photo.

Hi Peter, l was speaking to the nephew of another ex Blade who was in a cup final three years later, the Matthews Final, Eddie Shimwell. Do you have any photos of him in a United kit?
This nephew wasn't a taxi driver was he Sean ?
Only found out recently that my next door neighbour of 12 years is his nephew. Plus I know Eddie's son and grandson who, I think, has his cup winners medal.

First and only time that I shed genuine tears over the Blades. Felt totally betrayed.

My dad gave me my first lesson in life 'United are a selling club'.
Although I had been going to the Lane for several years this was the first year I had actually had a season ticket and was looking forward to us doing well. By Christmas we had sold Jones and Birchenall and, unsurprisingly, we were relegated at the end of the season. I was well and truly on the roller coaster.
