Nothing official yet, but KB 'revealed' to Radio Sheffield that it is 'likely' (McCabe's language for 'certain') one player on premiership wages will be going this closed season.

The only player we have on 'premiership' wages, that is actually worth something is Billy. Ched may well be a relatively big earner, but his scoring record (under Blackwell) hasn't exactly enhanced his value of late, so he won't be going anywhere... Until he bags a few and the £ signs start appearing in McCabe's eyes. Similarly, any other 'high earner' at BTDBL has hardly shone this term, ergo their value has generally depreciated.

The only player that has escaped the 'Blackwell Factor' is Billy, the only player who's value has remained stable is Billy, the last piece of family silver we have is Billy. KER-CHINGGGGGG!!!

Is my reasoning flawed? Please feel free to pick apart my speculation (for that is all it is) and tell me who you think will be our next victim of McCabe's gold rush...
 



Got to be Naysmith. Surely Billy's just on 'massive Championship' wages as opposed to Premiership wages having never played there?
 
Monty , Morgan, Quinn, all played in the prem for us and I suspect we are also paying Naysmith, Hendo and Sharp a massive wage. Paddy renegotiated his contract whilst banned so I would imagine his over inflatred demands of 18 months ago were significanlty moderated.
 
I'd have to second cooper's thoughts. Naysmiths wages must be one of if not the highest at the club, and with his injury we will have been paying alot for nothing for some time. I'd like to see him stay however if he is on a chunk that high then it would be a big drop to what we should be paying him.

Maybe thats why we saw him against swansea!!

and perhaps aimed at hammering home the fact that his "willing to take a cut" needs to be closer to "willing to take a cut to sensible Championship wages"?

I think it was always going to be likely they ask Blackwell to wheel and deal if he stays, the club sees this season as a failure and having paid too much... Anyone on the highest wages and contributing the least to SUFC is on dodgy ground.
 
I think the fact that Billy publicly said that he wont play for the club again under Blackwell, (not his wish though) indicates that if Blackwell stays it will probably be him.

I'd hate to see it though and after a great season for Donny he deserves another chance at least.

I agree that he deserves another chance and I think that his chance would be greater without Blackwell as manager - how I wish.

It's going to be a tricky one this but I don't think Blackwell will play him and will be looking to sell him. Huge mistake as where else are we going to find a 15 goal striker now (17 if his cup goals are included).

I can't stress enough how annoyed it has made me that Billy couldn't be utilised as a striker properly at the lane.

In the larger picture it seems it shouldn't be a problem as McC lets the funding go into the team [£14M].

The problem lays with WHO spends the money.

'McCabe's gold rush' It may be spin we've been fed but the £14M budget seems to squash this theory as well and I was one of McC's biggest critics.
 
All reasonable comments guys, especially relating to Naysmith. However, I'm looking at it from the point of view of who is the most saleable asset. Naysmith has undoubted quality, and probably has his admirers, but he has been laid up longer than HMS Victory. Mony, Morgan and Quinn are saleable but of limited value, and I would suggest that they are worth more to the club than the club could realise in a transfer fee and wage savings (although, personally, I'd be happy to see quinn leave for ten bob and a conker).

Hendo has hardly been prolific, but Blackwell sticks with him as he can't see past the 'target man', and I fear many managers will have grown accustomed to Hendo in this role and may not see beyond that.

Billy has, righlty, won many admirers whilst at Donny, and can clearly fit in to any team that plays football, hence he is of value. We'll still probably let him go for a pittance anyway, which will be a shame as I think he is the most natural goal scorer I've seen at The Lane since Edwards. Although he is somewhat fitter and works harder than Edwards ever did, he really does remind me of the days when we used to play a ball into the box, to feet, turn, shoot, goal.
 
Imo, Henderson will be on high wages. Rumours are around that no other than NW is after his services.

Naysmith wants to stop and by all accounts will take a pay cut meaning he wouldn't actually be on prem money.

Sharp is the other, but I thought KM said he hoped BS would be here next season, although the comments coming from Billy, as said above, about not playing under KB, could spell the end of his services :(

Monty can walk out for nowt, so let's see.

When did he say this? Was it a RS interview? And as Mr Agana pointed out; Geary - when was his last contract signed?

RS this morning... conveniently after the Fans Forums... I'm sure this wouldve been raised had it come out a week ago. I reckon its Sharp Bloody ridiculous - SUFCs top scorer last season, proved himself at this level while we pay the CCCs highest transfer fee for someone whocant score for toffee.
 
Naysmith is on about 16K a week, Billy is closer to the £12K mark and isn't he into his last year of his contract?

I would think it is Naysmith, but I also think Hendo is on a decent wack but no idea how much. Personally I hope it's Hendo, I'm still hoping Naysmith takes a massive pay cut and stays.
 
I think the idea behind it is to prep us for people leaving we're not expecting, I think we all expected GN to be gone... though it would be nice if he stayed on a pay cut wouldnt it!
 



Billy isn't on Prem wages. Doesn't mean he won't go though. Think you have to remember that his scoring record for us is nothing short of bob. Yes he can do it for other people but perhaps he likes being the big fish in the small pond? Other thought could be that the pressure of playing for the club he supports heaps too much pressure on him.

Of course it could well be that Blackwell and Robson didnt/don't know how to work with a goalscorer. Although Robson for all his negatives did bring us one of the greatest strikers seen at the club in recent years (BT in case you were wondering). He managed him alright. Billy didn't stand a chance next to BT. Now that times have changed and all the big guns have gone it may be time to get Billy back and give him a spin.

P.S Blackwell doesn't like him so don't expect it to work.
 
However many chances we give billy he is never going to do it. It is proven that SUFC will never change its 'get it lump'd up, lad' approach to 'football'. Billy is a good championship and fits in perfectly there. If he wants to persue his career, however much i hate to say it, it isnt with us.

Sorry BG its mainly speculation, but from quite a few different sources. Maybe more hope than expectation but as with most decent speculation there are enough nuggets in it to make it sound true.
As with most rumours that I post unless I'm 90% certain they are true I don't post em so I'll keep that under my hat. Needless to say I think Billy and SoD may be at BDTBL next season, and not with Donny.

Not true, not true! Remember the audible gasps from the crowd then Kendall got the old Bassett team playing on the deck within days of coming in?

I don't buy this "can't play football" bollocks myself, these are players (including Monty) who have been picked up at youth level for their ability. One of the main abilities we are talking about is that to pass a ball to another player on the same team. These are players that are far better than you or I at it, hence they are playing the game and getting paid. Problem is with what they are told to do. Footballers these days are nothing but drones who in our case are told to run into zones and wait for the ball to arrive. In Blackwells case the pitch is split into boxes and when the ball is in quadrant "a" (for instance) you are supposed to be in quadrant "c" and you stand there and wait for the ball. Watch us next time you get the chance, its amazing how basic and monotonous it is. All players remember is where they are supposed to be on the pitch.

OK, its different for set pieces because you may be marking or trying to lose a man but trust me, all Blackwell and many other managers do is work on getting fit players into areas of the pitch. That is why any player with a bit of flair doesn't fit in. Theres no room for them because they won't do the donkey work. The players we have CAN play football, its just that the management live in the dark ages where a 1-0 win off someone arse in the 95th minute is preferrable to a 4-4 draw with teams going at one another.

That was me doing the gasping. My entire Utd-watching life was spent with Bassett's teams, so I'd genuinely never seen a passing team before. It was amazing.

The game against Arsenal was when it all clicked. That remains one of the best 90mins by a United team I've ever seen.

Apparently Kendall simply told the players to prove to him they can play that way. It worked like a dream while the pressure was off, but as soon as expectations rose and the next season came around, the team became inhibited and ugly once more.

That’s not taken place yet. But we revise, we’ll sort our strategy out, you can’t start pre-supposing in your own mind who’s coming and going because you know, it’s a myth.

TB: It’s a very negative way of looking at it as well Seth, in terms of.....

SB: I don’t think it is!

TB: ...in terms of your question. Because what we are saying is the level of playing costs that we will throw at it, we will be able to compete.

Harper on £11k but he's offski, could be Ryan France - £7k (!!!).

I think this Billy Sharp issue could be the decider to Blackwell's future if its in any doubt. KM seems to be quite keen on retaining Billy Sharp and suggested KB and Billy need to sort their differences out like men.....

With that in mind, KM hasnt given similar emphatic commitment to KB's future although accepting at the present time that he will be the manager come august. If KB decides there is no room for Billy Sharp in his squad but KM wants to keep a useful asset.....could this cause an issue? I am looking at it from the point of view that chairmen have their views on football as well. He might view Billy as more of an asset than Blackie, should the two fail to sort out their differences.

But we all know what United do with prized assets dont we????
