After seeing us sign a player like Berge, players like him will be thinking 'why the hell shouldn't I sign permanently'.

If he can play the positions FIFA 20 says he can play then this lad would be a very shrewd signing for us. He and Robinson pretty much can cover for most of the positions in defence and at wing back.

Do we know where this is at, or anything about the terms of the deal?

I can't find much coverage. Surprised the three weren't unveiled together.

I've been thinking the same - especially as local media have reported them all as being in Sheffield. Maybe Sander's taken up all of our social media team's time. 😁

Would be amazing if we got it with view to permanent

I don't see the point in signing him on loan for the rest of the season to be honest if its not with a view to a permanent because surely he's been brought in to have a look at for the longer term at 21. Ok, he does provide better cover, and who know maybe Bash will get injured - hope not obviously - but I would imagine that the back 5 will stay as is for the rest of this season unless we have injuries or suspensions and this lad Retsos is possible successor. That's my guess anyway. He's not getting much football right now either at Bayer.

That’s my thoughts as well. If Leverkusen see him having a future with them, they’d surely want him to go on loan to a club where he’s got a far better chance of playing regularly.

I can see this being a loan with a view to a permanent. Get him in on loan, assess his fitness fully and maybe play a few matches here and there. If we like what we see, sign him, if not send him back to Germany.

We only have 14 league games left. These two suspected of coming in will do well to get a chance. The fa cup isn't until march. We have the 'winter break' before that too

Changed my mind a bit here.

Jagielka didn't have the best of games the other day and he's 38 this year. There really is no need for him to be relied upon like we have been (always on the bench) given the start we have.

Get this lad in and we have someone who can play all across the back and in midfield.

Probably makes sense for Phil to bow out gracefully and also opens up possible moves for Kieron Freeman or Luke given the versatility.

Jags will be a coach

Panos was one of the biggest defensive European talent before his Leverkusen move, which was recommended to Rudi Völler by his friend and former Greek NT manager, Michael Skibbe.

In his 1st Bundesliga season under Heiko Herrlich (who emphasizes a lot on youth development) he mainly played as an outside CB (mostly LCB but RCB as well) and had some brilliant performances and some not so great ones, but showed great potential overall and was definitely viewed to be a massively successful investment by the board and a very important player by the manager.

His 2nd was crucial for his development and he could've established himself as a starter with his gathered momentum, but he was injured in a bike accident during the pre-season followed by a muscular injury due to rustiness. I wouldn't say he's injury prone, but he's definitely super unlucky.

However, since the appointment of Peter Bosz, who is known for his anti-rotation style and that he isn't a youth type of manager (even managed to chase away 3 of the most talented prospects in his time in Ajax), Panos' playing time was non-existent. He played less than 300 minutes in a year and a half and basically got robbed of valuable formation years.

What you can expect from him:
-An intelligent technical player with good attacking output/sense and huge involvement in the buildup -great passing ability and vision-.
-Versatility, would offer great competition for multiple positions, but you'd prefer him as either a Basham backup or a defensive mid.
-Good direct defensive skills (tackles-duels)
- But a bit of tactical naïvety and an under-developed positional sense, but he is not a stiff player at all and will learn his trade quickly.

Cheers for the insight. How would you rate this move as someone who's invested in his career? Think it's the right move for him or would you have rather seen him move elsewhere? Just curious to see how foreign fans view us as a destination for young talents.

While it may be considered heresy, we do need to start blooding a long term Bash replacement.
He’ll be 32 at the start of next season, and of all our roles the overlapping centre half will be the most difficult for a new young player to learn and develop into.

This is everything a football forum post should be... Bravo my friend. 😍 ;)
