And start a new thread.

But this is important and would get lost amongst the Berge thread and go unnoticed.

This transfer is the 5th biggest transfer in world football in this January transfer window to date.

The pub team from Sheffield have paid the 5th biggest fee!!!

Who cares about the transfer fee?
Big money didn't buy us Fleck, Norwood, JOC etc.
West Ham and Newcastle have spent far more on players, it doesn't mean owt unless they're any good.
Let's wait and see if it's money well spent rather than celebrating spending money itself.

I get your point, but this guy has a really good reputation it seems, lets just enjoy the fact we're fishing in a different pond now my friend. West Ham's recruitment is notoriously shoddy.

Does this feel a bit like when City stole Robinho from Chelsea? Obviously I'm not implying it's facilitating a title challenge, but it feels like a big turning point for the club. We're a much different club than 12 months ago and we're shopping accordingly.

Jesus lighten up. It is a day we thought we'd never see. Spunking £22 million on a European international.

He does have a good reputation but he hasn't played any PL football yet.
Just don't like the celebration of spending millions of pounds for its own sake.

You know when you’re sat round the table having Christmas dinner and gran says something about next Christmas. Yeah, we’re all thinking it but you’re the one who says it.

It's not the money in and of itself that makes it exciting although it is nice to see us shopping in a market we've never had access to before. It's that for years I've seen us get to promising positions where fans have been saying it's surely the time to push the boat out and really go for it. A signing like this is a sign of real ambition and backing for the first team like I haven't seen in a long time.

We're in a strong position and actually looking to capitalise rather than consolidate. That's a novel feeling to say the least.

This guy is REALLY talented. As in: already proven in the Belgium league, still very young, on the radar of most European Giants like Ajax & Liverpool.

Most interesting thing is that he is unique, 1.93 but still VERY technical. That's rare.

I said yesterday I'd never heard of him but I don't follow overseas football he could well turn out to be a gem for us hope he does. I'm just glad to see a TW come and McCabe not sell the family silver at 1st silly quid bid

He grew up watching Chris Basham.

The club is reaping the rewards, and able to spend these sums of money, because of Wilder and Knill's previous excellence in the transfer market in building this team.

Some Blades might, understandably given that we haven't competed at this level in the transfer market before, feel a bit squeamish about the size of the fee. After all, we've seen other clubs - one of them not too far away from us - get carried away and overreach themselves.

The key point here, though, and the safety-net that allows us to pull off a coup like this, lies in the value of what has been assembled over recent years. Of course, there is always risk with any transfer but we can now show ambition at a level we've never seen before because we are a club that isn't saddled with huge debts and we have valuable assets littered through the squad.

Thus, if things took a turn for the worse and we had to pull our oars in, and even though we don't want to sell any of them, look at the value we have in our squad in Baldock, Stevens, O'Connell, Egan, Fleck amongst others. The centre-halves alone, would be likely to each attract fees above what we've just paid out on Berge.

The majority of the squad may have been assembled for relative peanuts but, having proved itself for 2/3rds of a Premier League season, it is a squad worth many tens of millions.

I've been sat speechless all afternoon, the only word I have been able to mutter @Colins Morris:cool:
