Great place though Hamburg!

I went there by accident about 3 years ago!

I’d booked a flight to Hannover from Manchester one afternoon. I set off in plenty of time and decided to go the scenic route to Manchester airport, over Bamford Moor. These are mainly single track roads with no traffic.

I got up on Bamford Moor and found myself in a traffic jam! I was stuck for about an hour and a half! Reason? Flyover at Ladybower of WWII aircraft in memory of the Dambusters!

I missed my flight, but there was one later to Hamburg, so I bought a ticket for that. It’s not too far from Hannover.

I had to stay the night in Hamburg. Not the worst thing to happen to me I must admit!

I’m sure HamburgBlade can tell us more?

Further to my comment on another thread that I can't get Fish and Chips in Germany, I will further reveal that they don't put vinegar on their chips. In fact, if you suggest it, they turn their noses up and look at you as if you're some sort of mangy poodle that eats its own shit.

Hamburg is a good place to visit - as are many places in Germany, it has a lot of "undiscovered gems". Where abouts did you stay, do you know?

As a corporate traveller, I headed straight for the Marriott. They were full up. So the taxi driver took me to another one about 5 mins drive from there. I can’t remember the name but it wasn’t a big chain hotel. It was fine though. I checked in, cane down to the bar for a drink and they had a big screen at one end showing porno! I kid you not!

What amazed me was no one was taking any notice! It could have been “Winnie the Pooh and a blustery day” for all they cared! Folks just sat, drank and chat.

That was just my first intro to Hamburg!

Whilst I agree, as a diabetic sadly there is plenty unhealthy about it (not that it stops me partaking occasionally)

White bread drives blood sugar up quickly and lots of carbs in chips.

Wholemeal with rape seed is fine
