Stevens's first season i thought he was awful and at fault for alot of goals. The last year and half he's been consistently one of our best players. Football's a funny old game.

So its robinson out and Olivier Giroud in ?

Stevens looked decent until Coutts broke his leg at Burton. Coutts was able to play a ball into the space in front of Stevens for him to run on to, something we lost when Lundstram and, particularly, Evans played in central midfield as both of those prefer to play the ball to feet. It's no coincidence that Stevens' form improved when Norwood joined as he also naturally plays the ball into space rather than to feet.

There's no way he takes that down against Man United nevermind score it, there's no way he scores that header against Leicester because he just isn't tall enough (and it was an incredible header, something like 0.1xg) and there's no way he wins his own flick on, outmuscles 2 defenders and slots that goal against Brighton into the bottom corner.

Billy's great, but let's not rewrite history here.

I thought xG was bollocks?

You’re right. It’s been a kick in the knackers for my agenda of factual correctness, much like the whole of 2019 was.
Give it a rest. You sound like the fucking Mrs!

It is, to me at least... I was just quoting Blade Analytics.

That's fair enough.

On the subject of stats and analytics, you and Pedro Verde could perhaps settle your argument by finding out who has the better shot conversion rate of the 2 players, which I'd say is a less subjective way of determining who is a better finisher.

It’s very small pool to choose from, dare I say Billy’s probably had in total 2 games at the most. He will almost certainly have the better shot conversation rate IMO. Doesn’t make him a better finisher for my money

That's fair enough.

I'd say the best way to determine who is the better finisher is how both players are performing in relation to their xG.
Considering our previous discussions though, I'm guessing it's safe to say that you wouldn't agree.

Good discussion though, I personally wouldn't be able to pick between them in terms of finishing ability.

Having better clobber do it for ya ?

A better bird ?

Car ?

Ricky has got this spot on.

Folks see what they wanna see. Factual evidence to challenge such a view need not apply. The ladies not for turning 😂.

McBurnie has had loads of "shots", most of which have been difficult headers from 10 yards out.

If you go by the available xG stats on Infogol and Understat, McBurnie is either in line or overperforming and Sharp is underperforming.

From Understat (https://understat.com/team/Sheffield_United/2019)
McBurnie G 3 vs xG 2.47
Sharp G 1 vs xG 1.50

From Infogol
McBurnie 8(10) apps, xG 3.08 Goals 3, shots 19, on target 8 (https://www.infogol.net/en/player/oliver-mcburnie/8898)
Sharp 1(9) apps, xG 1.55, Goals 1, shots 4, on target 2 (https://www.infogol.net/en/player/billy-sharp/500)

We shouldn't rush into selling him imo, even loan I wouldn't consider. It's already hard to make an impact on a full season loan, let alone if you're joining a team halfway the season where tactics are clear for all players except you.

He has been underwhelming for us so far, but some players just need a little bit more time to adjust to the PL. Could still be a great sub with his speed. If we have a striker we wanna sign this window I would kinda understand a loan, but otherwise just let him play with us for the rest of the season. It's not like we are in relegation trouble or something like that. We have the time to invest in him now.

And McBurnie misses a sitter at Anfield

Agreed. I have much more confidence in Robinson in that he could come good. Seen it in pre-season and was impressed.

That said, he is certainly well off the pace currently and needs to get back to something like.

Really wasn’t as easy as it looked. Everyone around us said it at the time, he did well to even reach it. That’s just unlucky
Told ya 👍.

#39.

And the REALLY funny bit is, you haven’t the foggiest idea that you are doing it 😂😂.

100%. And McBurnie looked sharper than Billy last night. I know it's difficult to make an impact when you're barely getting five or ten minutes here and there, but Sharp looked last night the same as he has done whenever he's played this season. The step-up in quality in the Premier League has really shown. It also highlighted why talking about "chance conversion" or whatever with Billy is pointless. Fact is he's not been able to get off shots when he really should.

Yep. Said this yesterday on here. I really don’t think Billy is quite up to it at this level, whenever I’ve seen him really. All he does is win a few free kicks. I never have any belief that he’s actually going to do anything, he’s having minimal impact and I can’t help but think him coming on in the last 2 was anything other than a token gesture.

He’s not exactly a washed up old hag just yet, he’s still a very capable footballer, but like many a great Championship forward he just hasn’t quite got the skill set required to get the better of the defences at this level

Aye. All that said, you never know. We're talking about him being a great Championship forward here, and just remember how many people had written him off in that league after we got promoted. He worked on his game a lot and got in the best shape he'd ever been. Doing the same to adjust the Premier League will in all likelihood be a step too far, but it's too early to write him off.

I’d like nothing more than for him to prove me wrong but I’ve seen nothing so far that would change my mind in that. At least he’s got his goal, that was a great moment for everyone and obviously him

PNE have signed Sinclair, can't see him going back there now

I've seen enough of Robinson to convince myself that he won't be missed. GLTTL - and thanks for dropping in.

For me out of all the summer buys he has been the most disappointing, really had high hopes but he has struggled to score and fit into the team effectively unfortunately at Billy’s expense at times.
Wouldn’t be upset if he was loaned out or even sold to bring in some funds💰💰

He has been a bit underwhelming, especially given his pre-season promise. What I can't be critical about is his effort and approach - first class in that regards, and its clear he's a big part of the team spirit behind the scenes.

If we are looking at high calibre incomings then something has to give, and I think this (WBA move) would be filed under 'sensible' for all parties.
