Lee Mason gave his usual look at me performance. Constantly giving fouls for Man City belly flops and bookings for Blades but none for Man City defenders even when Mcb was assaulted from behind first half. Mcb realised just before half time that you needed to collapse onto the floor like you had been shot to get the oppo booked and low and behold the Man City player gets a card when it clearly wasn't a booking offence.

There were at least two occasions where we in possession of the ball second half but he stopped play to award us a free kick. Far too many stoppages, the game didn't flow at all as Man city at times reffed the game for Mason not least when Sterling left the field where he wanted to causing CW to go ballistic at the fourth official. Thankfully we will have seen the last of Mason this season. Thanks for the two incompetent performances Lee where we got fck all out of the game. Your ineptitude has only been surpassed by Mr Stuart Attwell. Lets hope we don't see him again either.

That’s how a ref can influence a game and make sure a very good team are very hard to beat. Man City don’t need refs to help them, surely, but he certainly did.

Before I carry on I must say that I accept the defeat for what it was, a good effort with a couple of very good passages of play and chances for us but they had 4 very good chances to score and on reflection they deserved the win but had a helping hand along the way to make sure they could ramp up as much pressure as possible.

That ref was giving all the little petty decisions their way and couldn’t wait to do so, he’s one of the unfittest refs I’ve ever seen and gives these decisions partly because of it. He’s utter shite along with many, many more of the useless cunts.

I don't usually get abusive about refs, but tonight Lee Mason was an utter twat. He and his officials were inconsistent, unjust, and just looked like they were rooting for the "big club ". I know we as fans aren't neutral, I do try to be fair, but officials like tonight's don't do themselves or the game any favours.
I don't have any problem with the result, the lads played their socks off against an amazing side and were beaten by a world beating player, but the game was soured by having such an inept and inconsistent "look at me" twat in charge.

The SS linesman got caught out with a long ball up front. This happens. But the angle and him being at least ten yards behind play means he can't possibly have seen it but he flagged. If he didn't know, let play continue and VAR check IF a goal is scored.

The ref didn't lose us the game with bad decisions and he could correctly have allowed Jesus to retake the penalty.

Even from there, I feared besic was going to get a straight red card for that challenge, where he got a yellow.

Worst by far this season.

Why does the ref have to blow at corners? If a team scores & there has been a foul on the keeper VAR will spot it = goal cancelled.
If no goal is scored then allow the game to continue. Nobody loses & we stop seeing the ref blowing up for things no one else see.

Also: when players go down as if they may require leg amputation, can anyone tell me why they can't do the same as rugby. Allow the physio to treat the player on the pitch as the game continues. You'd soon see these cheating t##ts jump to their feet when they know the game hasn't stopped.

I concur. I can’t recall any generous decisions our way, whereas I can think of several for City. And the body-check on Baldock near the South Stand/Kop corner was ridiculous to not give. It does nothing to discourage diving when that sort of blatant foul isn’t picked up on.

Yet he gave one to City for the exact same thing on the John Street side. It's that what pissed me off. Also, as mentioned, the sterling sub incident. Get ya card out will ya. He's blatantly taking the piss. Its the way players just ignore him that gets to me. He's supposed to be the authotarian on the pitch but had none whatsoever.

It's only as tricky as you want to make it. For me, he lost control early on. The 50/50s make the match but he seemed to give them all to city. Or maybe that's all I noticed? Pinching yards at throw ons annoys me most. One instance he even told him to go back yet he actually walked another 5 yards forwards. Time wasting at the throw in towards the end... Just tell him off ffs. Let the game flow. Bell end.

Thought he was one of the worst refs at BDTBL this season. First half every minor contact with a City player led to a free kick and or a yellow card. Early bookings affect the player & therefore the game.

The foul on Aguero by JOC where he stopped for the foul should have been a yellow, and a possible (but very harsh) red. It was right in front of us and he scraped his studs down the back of his ankle/Achilles which is why he was so pissed off.

Few decisions didn't go our way but there wasn't really a blatant game changing one.

He kept starting and stopping the game for barely any contact. The yellow cards he gave to our midfielders were all correct but that early challenge by Walker was most certainly a yellow.

Anyway my mine gripe is more with linesman South Stand side who couldn't find his arse with both hands.

The ball didn't go out of play, he gives a throw. The ball is crossed which doesn't go out of play, he gives a goal kick. He barely raised his flag for any foul near to him and looked at the ref to give every decision.

He’s a weird case. He didn’t get any big decisions wrong, but the guy’s got no natural authority or respect from the players. They’re always pinching a few yards on free kicks and throw-ins and chatting back. Instead of having a word and nipping it in the bud, he starts flashing cards.
Rather than calming the game down, he tends to ratchet up the tension. Very irritating refereeing style for fans and players...and he can’t spot an advantage to save his life

I think there's some OTT Blades-tinted-specs reactions here. Maybe he wasn't the best, but it was a tight, physical and niggly game - more our choice than theirs, by the way - and in those games referees often become quick to blow and also dish out a lot of cards. One thing he wasn't was biased. Equal yellows to each side, the Besic one was dark orange and we got away with it - a biased ref wouldn't have left him on the pitch.
