it’s was the Sterling sub that annoyed me, he clearly tells Sterling to go off behind the goal. Board goes up and Sterling ignores him and slowly walks off to the middle of the pitch and the ref just stands there watching

And allowed Aguero to ref the game for a couple of minutes, when he stopped playing before remonstrating at him for 5 minutes.

Lee Mason came across as the type who is desperate to be the City players' mate. I imagine he calls them by their nickname and asks for their shirts afterwards.

He’s a weird case. He didn’t get any big decisions wrong, but the guy’s got no natural authority or respect from the players. They’re always pinching a few yards on free kicks and throw-ins and chatting back. Instead of having a word and nipping it in the bud, he starts flashing cards.
Rather than calming the game down, he tends to ratchet up the tension. Very irritating refereeing style for fans and players...and he can’t spot an advantage to save his life

I concur. I can’t recall any generous decisions our way, whereas I can think of several for City. And the body-check on Baldock near the South Stand/Kop corner was ridiculous to not give. It does nothing to discourage diving when that sort of blatant foul isn’t picked up on.

Although a small thing, his decision not to give a foul 2nd half when Baldock was clearly obstructed was infuriating for both Baldock and fans alike, only making it worse when he couldn’t wait to give City an almost identical one minutes later. It wasn’t the big decisions (no complaints with any of our bookings) but his inconsistency and nit picking was getting embarrassing

I think when you’re at the game all the little things add up to more frustration than watching on TV.

The cynical foul on Baldock meaning he couldn’t quite keep the ball in and they get a throw. Two minutes later the same thing happens in the opposite corner and they get a foul.

Mahrez booting it straight up and just over the touch line for a throw, he catches it right under where it went out and gives it to whoever took the throw (Enda?) right on the spot, and Mason demands he go two yards further back. Five minutes later Walker steals about 15 yards on the same touch line and he’s not interested.

Walker stands ready to take a throw in for half an eternity.

Stevens is volleying at goal and the final whistle goes.

No he didn’t get anything big wrong (I assume, I haven’t seen the penalty again and was baffled by that at the time), but his game management and inconsistency/bias towards them over all the small decisions and cards was amateurish.
